You are a walking history buff...I might need to refer you when I want an answer to a question....

However, lol...I see brother that I got this one so wrong...and I should know better!

I heard that word (Akara balls) a few times growing up (by my dad)...but my late mother, who was Black American, never made it.

I DID however, grow up eating Ogbono and Egusi Soups with the infamous and ever popular FuFu! My mother ground the egusi seeds and had some friends who lived in another state deliver that wonderful Palm oil...and my dad said she nailed both soups.

Those were the only Nigerian (Igbo) foods that we ate...sadly enough.
I have had MoiMoi (if that's how it's spelled) before...and I had the tastiest white yams I've ever eaten in my life...

The akara looked like chicken sandwiches from a popular American food chain called "Chik Fila"...so I thought that might have been chicken pieces!

I will definitely look at more recipes though and attempt to conquer them!

Thanks for the help smiley

Great!... Now I get it [Your ancestry].
I guess you're "Ngozi" by name?
It's good to know that you're connecting
with a part of your ancestry in Nigeria
and online as well. It is good to
know that your mum is of
African-American descent so you have
a broader perspective to life. May God
be with her where she is.

You're right though about the
near-similarity in the looks between
akara bread buns and the chicken
sandwich.

Moin Moin [Is a Lagos-Yoruba contraction
of the Yoruba word Moyin Moyin
which evolved from Western Nigeria
as a delicacy long before the British
colonisation]. The letter "y" was removed
from the original moyin moyin. The
delicacy is popular all over Nigeria
as well. Moyin Moyin means a "delicacy
that STICKS to the TEETH in Yoruba grin
[Eyin means teeth in Yoruba].

Last but not least, I love reading
about global history and an eclectic
mix of cultures and genealogies. I
grew up with large volumes of
encyclopedias in my family home
library courtesy of my dad. This
enables anyone to take full
command of any environment
he/she finds himself/herself in.

I have to sign off right now Ngo,
and I'll keep in touch with more
stimulating info!

Cheers! smiley

Thanks my brother,
Yes that is my name....how in the world could you ever guess that..lol? I mean what tipped you off...lol?
Anyhow yes...you are a learner and I could tell that you enjoy research...or just plain being knowledgeable.
I can tell that you are intelligent.
In fact, (and not to blow-up everyone's heads) Nigerians are very intelligent people (I should know)... and need to continue channeling that intellect into only positive, and beneficial things (hope I said that in love)
I took a course in college several years ago that focused on Africa. I chose it cause I wanted to learn about my people...
It was one of the best courses I had ever taken...mainly because I had an enthusiastic professor! He was actually Pakistani...so he could relate to being a foreigner in America. He was so energetic about Africa...that it got me excited! I think he had visited and loved it !
Anyhow, I will never forget the phrase, "Africa...that magnificent cake"! That sentence started off the first chapter...and I never forgot that.
Politics aside (cause I don't know anything about that aspect of Nigeria), it is a mineral-rich and fertile country....not to mention the 10th largest supplier of oil in the world....which says something amazing about that country..

Anyhow, sorry for getting off track here...I just got excited about my "other half"!
I didn't know that the Moyin Moyin originated from the Yoruba's....very interesting.
Well I thank you for the future info that you will give me...very helpful!

Blessings to you

Nothing's wrong with eating ripe raw plantain. I've even eaten a bit of washed and cleaned Raw ice fish, you should try it.

My cousin visited, she did something so weird. She put I think a cube of sugar in her bowl of beans, broke it inside and mixed.

What of some peeps here that eat indomie that hasn't been cooked, or raw onions or lick maggi...

my point is, not every food should go through fire.

Lemme carry first here.. I even eat raw rice grin grin grin
Or lick tin tomatoes
