geoinvestor:The truth is that even my firm here in Lagos hired a graphic designer, but it wasn't advertised. You need to have insiders in most firms, and they will help you. Even as a freelancer, Graphics design is so lucrative. |

byrron:Thanks for your input. You can post the link. As for many useless threads being created on daily basis, it sucks real time. But I do my best to maintain such posts on my blog. If you have good knowledge in IT and willing to share, you can contribute on my blog. I would be so happy to publish it. Thanks for your time. |

byrron:The truth is that you could have created the sort of thread that make sense rather than the outright dismisal most of the ones created by many others and you could have stil made your comment without bothering yourself with those.... Now to the meat of the matter, most peps are classroom learners first before they can pick up self paced online ones.....I tried learning via Treehouse, i didn't quite get it until i enrolled in General Assembly FEWD Course at their London Campus after which i picked up the Treehouse and have continued learning via Online mediums rather than through classroom settings. At the end of the day..passion and willingness to invest time, effort and money one will be ready to go |

OP nice write up, but i will disagree with you on the point that : A certification adds basically nothing to your skills, but it presents you as a professional to either the hiring manager or your client. I would be writing about the various certifications that come with different information technology courses, so do well to get |

OP, nice write-up, but I ll strongly disagree with you that certification add nothing to your skills. A certification adds basically nothing to your skills, but it presents you as a professional to either the hiring manager or your client. I would be writing about the various certifications that come with different information technology courses, so do well to get subscribe and receive it directly to your mailbox Why do you think people go to University to study engineering? We can all trouble shoot and find solution if we have interest in the job. In the course of preparing for your certification e.g Cisco (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) if you study it with your lab and study it like your life depend on it ,you ll be confident to troubleshoot, build , configure and run any network structure or architect. Whoever wants to go into I.T should follow the process , get your certifications, learn so that you ll get the job. Even if you want to become an I.T technician try and study for ComptiaA+ with these you will be exposed before you get to the real world. Yes, when you get the job you will learn. It happens in all areas. Even if you made a first class no employer will employ you and give you tools and ask you to start work immediately , you ll have to under study even if it is for few days. So please go for certification it is your degree in the world of I.T just like CCNA (Bsc), CCNP (Msc), CCIE(PhD..in the world pple with this certification are less than 50%) |

ClintonNzedimma:Yeah! Fact is everything IT software rests upon programming... So perhaps, your web development, apps/software engineering etc should be subsets of programming. When you do other IT subs to the zenith, you're IT guru. But when you do programming to a damn break-neck feat you're Geek! See? |
| Re: How To Start A Career In Information Technology As A Novice In Nigeria by ClintonNzedimma(m): 7:21pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
Awoleesu:Have you heard of software development life cycle?. Programming is just stage 3 which is called implementation |

| Re: How To Start A Career In Information Technology As A Novice In Nigeria by Awoleesu(m): 7:33pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
ClintonNzedimma:Yep. But let's do a lil definition here; how do you describe Programming? You impress me as a fundamental IT person (not sure you're a professional...) the SDLC you mentioned is strictly a Model... If you grasp that! |

Awoleesu:well let me explain, the word programming is a vague and broad term. You don't see a company say we are looking for computer programmer as a job advert, you see things like Full stack developer needed, software developer, testers and software engineers in the case of big companies. Everyone is a programmer but what is the specification. A novice that writes Hello World is a programmer but will you say he is a developer. PS:Concerning the issue of whether I'm a professional, I am a web developer. I code too alot |
| Re: How To Start A Career In Information Technology As A Novice In Nigeria by Awoleesu(m): 7:57pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
ClintonNzedimma:Now, I think I get your angle. So, let's discuss like professionals: Programming is simply instructing the Device or application what to do. I trust you understand this. Now, concerning job descriptions, I quite agree most posts go specific (and all are programmers). Without jerking much over this, I believe you'll agree with me that the broad spectra of IT departs @ Hardwares & Programming (Hence, Programming should be the parent while others her subsets) - Talkin Hands-on... |

geoinvestor:graphic is good. I think u need to focus on skill development first b4 thinking of jobs or else you will loose focus and be tossed here and there. if u combine it with animation, u will go far but like I always say, if u love a particular job, u will spend ur entire time learning it and u will b ready to work free of charge |

| Re: How To Start A Career In Information Technology As A Novice In Nigeria by ClintonNzedimma(m): 8:05pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
Awoleesu:Programming cannot parent everything, what of algorithms, architecture etc. Programming is just like the implementation of the already conceptualized process. The term you are looking for is DEVELOPMENT. I had a project last week, had to put everything on paper to help ease my coding. That was algorithm and architecture definition. Then comes the programming, testing and debugging. If you think programming is a big umbrella, start building an app without planning it first, you'll be sorry for your code |
| Re: How To Start A Career In Information Technology As A Novice In Nigeria by ClintonNzedimma(m): 8:05pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
Awoleesu:Programming is just an instruction, development is a handbook and guideline |

BiafranBushBoy:Apple's and oranges bro. Following the norm doesn't help most times. After getting certified, if you still can't back it up, then nothing for you. I mean, it's fine and good if you can afford it, but if you can't then.... Maybe it's because of my field, or where I am, but I don't think I've ever seen a programmer job whose requirements had a programming-related certification because any serious company knows it's BS! (Again, I'm not talking about certifications outside software engineering) An Oracle certified Java Developer that cannot for example explain basic OOP concepts is an embarrassment |
