I don’t know where to even begin……

We were 3 weeks away from our wedding. The stress of both careers in medicine, financial stress, and family issues were all probably at an all-time high. Our relationship had its ups and downs just like any….

This was no excuse for what followed. I made a simple request of him and he flipped out which resulted in him physically violating me. He pushed me down and started beating me… His verbal abuse and physical abuse from that evening resulted in me calling off the wedding and him going to jail.

I have had the hardest time letting him go. My mind is telling me to never allow this man back into my life but my heart loves him so much and is bitter that this happened to me. Eight months has passed and he has been in counseling every week and he has been persistent in wanting to get back together.



He’s accepted responsibility for everything and has apologized to both me and my family. I am not afraid of being alone and I know I will find love if I am not with him but I don’t know if I can love anyone like him and I don’t know why I am having trouble letting him go? Or if I should take him back?

I don’t want to fall into the cycle of abuse and am very well educated on the patterns and in saying this, can he change?

Will another violent outburst occur in the future?

Should I move on without him?

I have had the hardest time letting him go and the future we planned together… I recognize the steps he has made to recover from this but does he have the capacity to truly change or once a verbal/physical abuser always a verbal/physical abuser?

I don’t know what to do. Please advise me!
