The one he punched in that first half? It was direct biko... I recall it so well. In the second half the one he punched was mid-level and not high sef. He and to dive to meet that despite Eze's obstruction... Ajiboye did his best in that instance.

And yeah... That one that went off-field annoyed me the most. He showed guilt of this back in 2009 even though he showed special talents then. I was thinking he should have gotten the hang of it by now. Aerials like that will be seen at the World cup and Ajiboye could struggle big time if an Enyeama (almost same height with Ajiboye) could be floored by such...

TheGoodJoe:

It is an aerial threat and he chose the right option by dealing with it with a punch.

The one you are talking about was the one that went off field but his approach was wrong. Another came that was nodded away from goal.

However, keepers limited in height should opt for dealing with aerial threats with power punches than going for a catch.

By the way, the one he punched came from the side. It was not direct.

Icon4s:

That is a personal opinion.

And yes the team that went to Spain played better football than this team just also like the last two CHAN teams played better football. But a lot of those players have left the local league. These are the ones around now.

The league cannot simply give what it does not have. That is my point. And if you know any player that deserved to be in this team but was left out please mention the name and let's discuss it.
Oga icon4s it is a pity that our local coaches always messed themselves up.

Sir with what i saw during six NPFL invitational tournament i can tell you bodily that Plateau United two CB are better than what we paraded at CHAN,there is one Omoleye who was far better than Okpotu in all ramifications..

I don't have the opportunity of watching the league but with what I saw during six invitational tournament, Salisu is not doing enough to be candid.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH: How Home Eagles Rated Vs Morocco

Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU runs the rule over the performance of the Home Eagles in their African Nations Championship final defeat against Morocco…

DELE AJIBOYE 7/10
Conceded four times in the game but still posted an impressive showing. He was let down by his defence for all the goals.

OSAS OKORO 4/10
Failed to live up to his previous heights in the competition as he was badly exposed by the Moroccans.

STEPHEN EZE 4/10
Eze was not at his best in the game and was giv a run around by the Moroccans. It was no doubt his worst showing of the competition.

KALU ORJI 5\10
The stand-in skipper tried in vain to put the defence together especially after Moses Eneji’s dismissal without success. He made a couple of vital blocks but it was not enough to prevent his side from losing.

IKOUWEN UDOH 6/10
A slightly above average performance from the young defender who was Nigeria’s best defender in the game. Played a number of defence splitting passes and defended well too.

EMEKA ATULOMA 4/10
Returned to the starting line-up after missing the semi-final win against Sudan due to injury. The Rivers United player started the game well but fizzled out like most of his teammates and was forced off in the second half due to injury.

RABIU ALI 4/10
A below-par showing which summed up his performance in the competition. He was replaced in the 57th minute by Augustine Oladapo.

DAYO OJO 4/10
Toiled hard to impress in the game with no success. He was outnumbered in midfield by the Moroccans.

EMEKA OGBUBH 4/10
Another player who returned to the starting line-up after missing out against Sudan due to injury. He probably did not shake off the injury enough as never really get into gear in the game.

MOSES ENEJI 4/10
Looked lively in what was his first start of the competition but was dismissed early in the second half for a rash challenge.

GABRIEL OKECHUKWU 5/10
He was completely isolated upfront and did not get the kind of service he would have required.

SUBSTITUTES

ANTHONY OKPOTU 3/10
Came in for Emeka Ogbuh early in the second half and didn’t do anything positive to turn the game around.

AUGUSTINE OLADAPO 4/10
He was surprisingly left on the bench after impressing in the semi-final against Sudan. He could do nothing to change the fortune of his team after his introduction for Rabiu Ali in the 56th minute.

MUSTAPHA IBRAHIM 2/10
Another substitute who did nothing to affect the game.

Rating 7/10 despite conceded four goals showed a sign of a good goalkeeper, badly exposed by his defender but he can do better next time.

Now, I am not saying Salisu is perfect but entirely blaming him for the performance of the boys is what I am against.

Now, on the Plateau united CB duo, the question is which attacking threat did they come against? Eze and Orji were almost so perfect in their first two games ie Rwanda and Libya that some here started clamoring for their inclusion in the Super Eagles. Someone even said Orji has done better than Balogun.Just because they played against teams that had little or no attacking threats. The nature of opposition a team faces really determines how they perform.

On Okpotu, there is no way Salisu would have dropped the league's highest goal scorer for Omoleye. If Omoloye had been chosen now and Okpotu is left out, I am sure almost everybody here would have cried foul.

From the debate, the problem remains poor pool of players and the fact that the drain will continue. So I find it difficult to believe that scouting a poor pool will provide a strong squad. I disagree.

So, as long as the drain continues, we need to adopt an innovative strategy to combat this challenge.

My suggestion remains increasing the pool of players, camping them, screening and selecting the best.

I do not see a better solution.

By increasing the pool you are only increasing quantity but not quality.

The league cannot give what it does not have.

Like I said, the stats will dent Ajiboye's fine ability -- 4 goals in 3 games in open play. Of course stats don't consider many game factors. Ezenwa has had more game time for SE but with less goals conceded in open play (or goals conceded to games played ratio). Ezenwa remains ahead, but Ajiboye is better IMO. Not far better -- better, but in the same league.

I'm not talking about rating. Of course we cannot blame him for the loss.

I hope you guys saw the youthfulness of the Moroçcans compared to our boys?

This is the age for the youths.

Who knows whether this our peculiar goalkeeping situation would be a blessing in disguise? Manuel Neuer had his debut in 2009 for Germany. In 2010 he became the gk at the WC in SA because Rene Adler who was first choice gk had an injury. Neuer has since gone on to distinguish himself as a national team gk. Uzoho looks good to me. But as for Maduka? I like the guy ooo but hmmmmm he's just too green oooo.

Sir sometimes opposition doesn't determine how good player is but what he is made of irrespective of the oppositions. The Plateau CBs I saw reminds me of Uche Okechukwu, big and read the game very well, against CHAN team. with ease they rendered CHAN attacks impotent and their confidence on the ball was awesome.

I don't know why Omoleye was dropped though not necessary to drop Okpotu for him but he deserves a place in the team even journalists were surprised about his exclusion but the young boy is better than Okpotu,he controlled the ball very well, has the pace and fearless and still very young.

The issue is this was Neuer a youth keeper when he became WC keeper, honestly i want them young but my major concern is keeping in division three, not good pedigree for WC bound keeper.

How i wish Uzoho continue as number one at Deportivo LA Coruna cos i watched him against Girona, though good but still has a lot to learn, dropping the guy to team B looks somehow and funny enough he was dropped by the same coach that recommended him to first team initially.

On Maduka honestly i don't have anything to say cos is like we are looking for short cut but again a youth keeper with Fortuna Dusseldorf, not encouraging cos keeping for the main team would have speak well for him.

Sir,i have a question for you, hope you watched Morocco vs Nigeria match, pls would Uzoho or Enyeama have done better than Ajiboye with such porous defence, 26 shots at a keeper in 90 minutes.

Rohr just need to decide and gamble on one as TheSuperNerd said and let see him more in the friendlies especially Uzoho and Ezenwa.

My answer on that Ajiboye question is this: when Brazil gk chopped 7 at the last WC it wasn't his making. Once the defence is bad a gk can only do so much. So even good gk can and do get let down by their defenders. Remember Buffon in the last champions league finals.

I don't fancy Maduka being a WC bound goalie. I don't think he's gotten to that level yet

I hope we invest more in our league after this.
I know there are some things we cannot do because in a sense the league is limited by the development of the country, but there are many things we can do.
Improving security and officiating will go a long way for example and we can control that. Rather than sign a deal with NTA (which has not even materialized yet) why don't we sign one with TV stations in the states where these teams are based? For example PRTV in Plateau instead of NTA.
Shehu Dikko has done a lot, but we need to do more. Tonight Morocco is reaping the benefits of an organized league. A league they have invested in. Luck can only take you so far in life and we've mostly relied on luck to get here.
Finally, who hired Salisu? That person needs to be fired.

We can now be more objective now that CHAN is over. Some of us were sentiment cos we believed these Lads need our collective Supports, we stood by them till the end and kinda proud of them.

However, the technical Crews are nothing to write home about. Tactically and technically the Team was very poor, and the Blames should go to the Coach and his Crews. Salisu is never a good Coach, hence I wasn't surprised with the lackadaisical Performances of the Team throughout the Competition, and truth be told - they didn't reach the Final based on Merit but Luck!

Sir Icon4s and Tbaba1234 were right with their Calls for the Selection of youthful Teams, especially from the Academy, to represent Nigeria in the CHAN Competition. It's ought to be a Platform to unravel Potentials that hopefully gonna add Steels to the Eagles.

Salisu picked Players based on sentiment, coz Onuwa and Olatunbosun ought to be in the Team, while Alli, Ibrahim and Nur had no reason to be in the Team.

I hope NFF could relieve Salisu, Agu and Co and replace them with Siasia, Shorunmu and Co. Also Rohr should never listen or take Advice from Salisu any longer.

I think Rohr is watching and as a coach he must know a good keeper even if the keeper concedes 12 goals in a match.

It's simple the goalkeeper stats would be the benchmark.

Ajiboye against Morocco had 26 shots 12 on targets and conceded 4 goals saved 8 in 90 minutes rating 7/10.I believe this should solve the whole issue.

Chei your last paragraph showed that you are not happy with Salisu Yusuf.

Candidly speaking I am not! Everyone was right with the Criticism of the Team's Performances. I seized praising the Team coz it's damn too obvious - tactically and technically the Team was over poor!

Lol u are only confusing yourself or maybe I’m confusing you. I’ve never said Ezenwa is better. I’ve always maintained Ajiboye is better.
However Ezenwa has always been ahead and still is because of the opportunities he has had and his better stats in SE colors.

By my saying they are in the same league does not mean they are equals. Come to think of it, two players can hardly be equals. I don’t see either of them giving us the required cover between the sticks at the World Cup as homebased keepers.

And I said earlier Ezenwa is not “far ahead” of Ajiboye in response to that moniker. Ajiboye is also not far ahead. They both have weaknesses and strengths, but from what I’ve seen from both of them, in all, Ajiboye is better. Of course that opinion can change if Ajiboye gets more opportunities with SE (like Ezenwa) and fumbles.

Icon4s:

You have changed again to "Ajiboye is better".

Using that incident to judge him to me isn't that cool. Remember the ball went outside, meaning passing the wrong route, then back into the field of play, he must have been expecting the ball Through the normal route (within the field of play), but the ball ended up coming from another route (outside the field of play) which must have cancelled out his calculations. Let's try to also see things the way they are.

We have seen great goal keepers missing something like this, it was a banana type of corner kick which changed direction abeit the wrong way.

I will rather judge him with a correct Arial ball than an incorrect one.

And Uzoho we shall see again and again... We got five friendlies lined up...so make una relax. grin

Talk about now... Ajiboye is still weak on aerial balls....

How many he fumbled? Loolll... I will ask how many he even got to face... Just that one he got which was converted but later ruled out was superbly miscalculated. This is a trait even Ezenwa showed during the qualifiers against Algeria. Ajiboye is still weak aerially. I think your question is out to show he is not weak there abi? Anyway, I just know that Rohr will drop either of Ezenwa or Ajiboye.... And whether we like it or not, I think I can tell you who Rohr will drop.
