If the info is anything to go by, TheNFF are planning on bringing back the classic design

Etebo displayed some grit yesterday. It seemed to me that the coach gave him free ticket to operate in the midfield but mostly deep... Its not going to be the same for him playing for Nigeria. A look at that game saw him carrying the team and breaking up play. Different team..different system..The Nigerian team is much more compact...Etebo will not have it easy there..my two naira point

May it never be well with Salisu for parading these bunch of slowpokes as our best

Too harsh for a man who gave us our best record in the CHAN and a man who has given so much for Nigerian football. Salisu Yusuf deserves more respect than this.

TheSuperNerd:
Etebo's Eye-Popping Stats On La Liga Debut: Game-High Shots & Dribbles, Most Fouls Won, MOTM

Oghenekaro Etebo was unarguably the most impressive player on both teams as Las Palmas beat Malaga 1-0 at the Estadio de Gran Canaria on Monday night.
The Nigeria international was named Man of the Match due to his impressive statistics, with the number six the top player in three popular categories.
Etebo had a game-high three shots, level with Malaga's Adrián González, completed six dribbles, the most by the 28 players that took to the pitch and the second-best player Hernán Toledo managed only three dribbles.

The 22-year-old proved a handful for the Malaga players so much so that he was the most fouled player, having won seven fouls.
The central midfielder made 53 passes with a passing accuracy of 83 percent, made two tackles, two interceptions and one clearance on his debut for Las Palmas.

Malaga number twelve Brown Ideye, who also went the distance as Etebo, tallied three key passes, the best compared to the other players on the pitch.
Former Granada starlet Isaac Success came off the bench in the 78th minute for his debut for Malaga.

Will never forget how he single handedly destroyed Algeria in the final of the U23 African Championship Olympic qualifier. That's the Etebo we are yearning for. Even if he does not fit, there will be a match or two that he will turn up when others don't. Remember Semifinals of France 98, Zidane, Thierry Henry and Patrick Veira did not do so well that day, a defender Lilian Thuram showed up with 2 goals and got them to the final.

Bros, don't mind them. With Nigerians, it's always a zero sum game: if one player is doing well then the other player gotta lose. Why can't we just praise God that our boys are doing well and just leave it at that? Must everything be turned into this useless rat race of who's in who's out

And in addition, Etebo isn't even a direct opposition to Onazi either. Eddy Onazi is DM. Although Etebo is a utility player who can play most positions on the pitch, his favorite position is AM. Hence, this head to head comparison is uncalled for. Bottom line, I see both of them making the team.

Take it from someone who knows, Onazi is gonna make the team even if ends up sitting on the bench. Do you know why? First, Onazi is the vice captain. Secondly and most importantly, Onazi is important for the locker room. If you watch most Super Eagles locker room clips, you'll see players like Onazi and Kelechi leading the chants ... such players are leaders and they are very important for the locker room. Most coaches would make room for players like them purely for their leadership qualities even if they are not good enough to start; especially taking cognizance of the fact that your skipper, Mikel, is very reserved and quiet.

As regards to Etebo, like I have said several times before, he's gonna make the team because he's a utility player. You need such players on the bench.

O pari

Kog45:
I thought Etebo was a super regular in Portuguese league before moving to Spanish league but still find it difficult to break into Eagles starting eleven despite Onazi indifferent form in Turkish league.

It seems Rohr rate Onazi highly cos if we want to go by club performance Onazi shouldn't have been making eagles starting eleven.

Sometimes only coach can tell us why his preference for some players and i will not deceive you player like Mikel ObiMoses,Ndidi,Balogun, Ekong,Onazi,Ighalo,Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi,no matter their form at their club,it would be hard for Rohr to drop them to the bench unless they failed to impress in eagles colour.

Etebo just need to work hard to make the team not even Onazi cos Onazi is a trusted boy and has never failed Rohr in eagles colour though not good not to be playing regularly cos it affects.

Forget the U-23, that's too far back. Just check him out in the recent world cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo - the first leg. Victor Moses, Leon Balogun and Etebo were out best players. The problem with Nigerian fans is that once a player has one bad game, they would write him off completely. And then once he has another good game, everyone would jump back into his bandwagon.

... very fickle fans.

I think Etebo's best position is that deep midfield role. He is not creative enough to be a 10. I think, he will do well playing alongside Ndidi.

And he can even play from the flanks, as a SS. Remember what he did against Japan in Brazil. The guy is a very versatile player. I even like him as a an old fashioned CM (box to box midfielder). But I just don't think that the DM is his favorite position.
