The exercise consumed two days of Adams stay in Akwanga. He spent a large chunk of each day with Ali, away from Jaye returning to him at dusk. He was surprised and suspecting when he saw that Jaye wasn’t asking any questions.

“Saves me the talk” he roared in his own mind.

At second thought, he wondered if he was getting suspicious and decided to play dumb.

“Well you’re right. I don’t know this place and I am quitting. Two days of hard work without result. I’m washing my hands off this” his loud voice startled Jaye, who had been carried away with something he was writing on plain sheet of paper.

“Hmm hmm” Jaye replied in a tone that actually said “you fool. Didn’t I tell you?”

Adams acted as though nothing was no scheme rolling underground throughout the rest of his stay in Akwanga, apart from constantly persuading Jaye to go back home with him but the response was always “I won’t leave this place until she comes back.”

“Just promise me you will return once you hear from her” he demanded, knowing full well the magnitude of such promise. He was sure Jaye would hear from ‘Hadiza’.

Meanwhile, Adams and Ali had fine-tuned the plan for the switch. They had searched Facebook for Salisu Hadiza and the search returned many results but it was not difficult for Ali to recognize the one they were interested in. Luckily for them, she was active on the platform. Her last post was two days before.

An account was set up for Jayeola Subair. It was not difficult to put up his basic information since Adams knew almost everything about him. Ali sent her a message and they hit it off immediately.

She thought it was Jaye at the other side of the web, so she opened up to him, told him how sorry she was. She had lost her phone and his contact in the accident, she would have come looking for him but didn’t know if he returned home after his service.

Her service had been postponed on health grounds and her uncle wouldn’t even let her anywhere beyond the shores of Yobe state, the furthest she could go for her service was Borno State.

Despite all, she was glad to have heard from Jaye at last. She had searched for him countless times on social media platforms but he was not active, now she could only be thankful.

Ali wished she knew it was him chatting with and still remain warm to him the way she did now.

Within three days of returning home Adams had met with Rihanat, fed words about his journey to her ears and executed the next phase of the plan. They created a situation similar to the one between Ali and Hadiza.

Satisfied with the progress of the plan, Adams decided to test the waters. He called Jaye to put him in the show.

“Man how far, decided on coming home yet?” he asked.

“Well, I think you know the response to that already.”

“You keep thinking she would come looking for you? You should wake up from your nightmare, forget her.” Adams derided him.

“That won’t happen Lucifer, and please say something sensible next time you call. Bye.” He said as a way of threatening to hang up if he didn’t behave.

“Hey wait! Why not look her up on facebook? Maybe she couldn’t reach you because she lost your contacts. You should grow out of your 12th century self and open an account. Maybe you can find her.” he replied, offering the last piece of finesse to his plan.

It worked. Jaye brightened up.

“Ok, I admit it. My absence on social media is sad. Imagine this useful simple idea coming from a fool” he mouthed, beaming.

“Well, this fool may just be saving your ass now. What do you say is her full name? Let me end this call and open an account for you old man.”

Within minutes, an account had been created for Jaye. Hadiza Salisu (parody account) was added. Jaye was given the login details to his account and he started chatting with Hadiza. Or so he thought.

Jaye was happy to have heard from the love of his life again while Rihanat was happy that she could one more time communicate with Jaye as she was upset that he was actually professing genuine love for another lady. Then it occurred to her, Jaye had never told her he loved her.

Adams was glad with the progress made so far. Things were moving fast and smooth. He would launch the next phase of the plan soon.
