Please some that really understand should enlighten me.... I bought fcmb on the 9th, qualification date is 12th, closure of register is 13-19th. Do I qualify for dividend? seeing that it takes T+3 for the shares to be transferred to me.

grin grin grin grin. I will send mail to Veritas first thing on Monday morning for the over-payment of the dividends. It looks like they did not deduct some of the shares i sold before qualification date.
settlement is T+3 days. Did you sell as early as 3 days before qualification?

I guess the reason for having more than a day as closure of register is to accommodate those that bought shares on the qualification day. For instance the closure of registrar book for FCMB is from 14th through 19th of April. Anyone who buy the shares of FCMB tomorrow will definitely get his/her dividend because the T +3 will be taken care of due to the extension of close of registrars.

I can guarantee you 2 things from your request.
1. You will most likely not receive a DM cos they are too busy searching for the next Dangote flour.
2. You will most likely get all you need if you patiently study (not read) this thread from origin and keep following.
Item 2 above will help you ask more informed questions which will catch the fancy and hence quick response of knowledgeable members of this thread.
Good luck.

Wrong my dear !!
U wont get paid any dividend anything outside/after the QUALIFICATION DATE.

THE DIVIDEND QUALIFICATION RULE IS-- To qualify for any dividend payout, u must;
1) BUY ON OR BEFORE THE QUALIFICATION DATE.
OR
2) SELL AT LEAST A DAY AFTER THE QUALIFICATION DATE.
...that's simply all u need to know.
So since FCMBs qualification date was on the 12th, anything outside/after that date, and u wont get any dividend as a buyer. ...unless u are selling.
Again the small matter of T+3 days counts for nothing as long as u follow the Dividend Qualification Rule above.

As an Investor, u do not need any information with regards to the closure of register.
Just concern urself with the QUALIFICATION DATE ALONE. ...and nothing more !!

I already put out a post here where this issue was very well simplified.
...folks should pls do well to recall that post for a better understanding going forward.
So we don't keep revisiting this issue every now and then.

NOTE: I only gave it the name DIVIDEND QUALIFICATION RULE (DQR) to make for a much easier understanding.

Cheers !!

Dont get it twisted sir, NCI means Non-controlling Interest which is term used to "loot" the company's profit to themselves-Femi and his goons. So no one is buying off your Forte Oil coy.
Wow. Thanks for your comment. So, I am stuck with the company except I want to sell at an immense loss. Let's see how the market reacts this week

Should we still wait for Zenith at 25 Naira according to charts or the thing don zoom off past it.

CC-BBM, FXuser, CP and co.
- charts show ''possible'' areas of support not certainties oh
- we hv to be comfortable knowing that price is likely to drop below ur entries, hence some buy gradually rather than trying to pick bottoms

onegentleguy:
There has always been the slight misconception on how best to differentiate between Qualification date and Closure of register.
But the truth is that as investors our concern should only be with just one of this process, which is the former.
...because the later isn't really of any core benefit to us.
For the sake of those who still see confusion in the mix, I shall make an attempt to clear things up.
But before I do that, let's try and define the 2 terms, shall we;

Qualification date- This is simply the last day for which a prospective investor can purchase a share in anticipation of receiving any dividend or bonus (script issue) following the declaration of result by a listed company.

Closure of registrar- This is the period within which a company updates its register/database with the view of determining the no of shareholders eligible or qualified for a dividend or bonus.

Now let's break it down further a bit;
1st on Qualification date;
Note that it is just A SPECIFIC DATE. ...JUST A DAY (ie 3rd of Aprill ).
From the definition, it simply means that for one to QUALIFY or in other words partake of a dividend or bonus, u have to PURCHASE that share from ur target company ON OR BEFORE THE SPECIFIED DATE. ...or SELL AT LEAST A DAY AFTER THE SPECIFIED DATE.
...and so any purchase/sale made after the period explained for both buy and sale will be deemed ineligible.

Now on Closure of register;
Note that unlike qualification date, it is usually a range of days (ie 4-9th of Aprill ...though in rare cases, might also be a single day).
From the definition, this is just the day(s) when the company gets to work to update their register with a view to ascertaining those eligible for any coperate declaration(s) made. (ie ...including those who bought on or before the qualification date and excluding those who sold).
...this is why often times, u may hear statements like 'those whose names appear in the register of booklet on ... ...

From the explanations above, it therefore means that as investors, our basis for concern should only be with the QUALIFICATION DATE (...whether we are qualified to partake or not), and not THE CLOSURE OF REGISTER (...which is clearly a matter for the company).
Now there might sometimes be a few cases where the QUALIFICATION DATE is the same as the 1st day within the range of days for the CLOSURE OF REGISTER (ie qualification date 8th March. ... closure of register 8-11th of March).
In this scenerio, the company plans to immediately start out with updating their register on the last day of qualification.
...well if they wish to, then that's a matter for them. ...ur only concern is to make sure u are eligible for anything declared whether u are buying or selling. ...and how do u do that? ...just ensure u bought ON OR BEFORE THE QUALIFICATION DATE or u sold AT LEAST A DAY AFTER THE QUALIFICATION DATE.
Using the declaration from that of zenith bank 2017 YE result (qualification date April 3rd. ...closure of register April 4-9th), the buyer must buy on or before April 3rd to qualify, while the seller has to sell at least a day after April 3rd. ...that is, from April 4th upwards to qualify.
Notice how the seller can sell even within the days of the closure of register or anytime after it, while the buyer can not because he only has until the exact day of qualification to make his purchase if he wants to be eligible.
One other important point to note is the scenerio where an investor sold on the exact day of qualification. ...in this case, the buyer he sold to takes precedence and therefore qualifies ahead of the seller.

CONCLUSION:
As an investor, what should interest u should only be the QUALIFICATION DATE.
In summary, to qualify for any declaration, just note the QUALIFICATION DATE and BUY ON OR BEFORE THAT DATE or SALE AT LEAST A DAY AFTER THAT DATE.

So the next time u purchase or wish to sell a share from a company with a dividend or bonus in view, just concentrate and concern urself only with the QUALIFICATION DATE and forget about the closure of register.

...Unless of curse u are one of those handling the said companys register or database. wink cheesy

hope this helps some persons out there.
...Thats the post up here.

MSCI ADDITION FOR 13 APRIL 2018/GENERAL MARKET COMMENT

The week that has just ended was not that bad, the all share index closed in the positive region compared with the previous week.
Looking at the MSCI, I can see that the fund now has some fresh funds. The new week will tell us where the available fund will be deployed. This is a positive development.

Looking at equities with some momentum, our system picked up Diamond bank (I am not picking Oando, as best money is made when a stock is not yet recorgnised by the general public, price get quickly priced into stock or the expected gain will be delayed if the potential is seen by all, there is nothing special in anybody predicting that Oando will be among the top gainers for this week!!!). Diamond bank is currently trading at one of the lowest prices in recent time. There is the possibility of a positive turn here.

I am not saying OANDO is not a good investment: for the moment, this stock will see positive move with a lot of crowd rushing to buy. If you want to go with the crowd, good opportunity for some quick gain. Then get out once you see the price getting to a resistance level.

Although I have grievances against MSCI for running down my Diamond among other things, I think Oando and transcorp are good for now. I cannot imagine what will make an investor sell oando at the moment. A stock that stands to make the highest gain this week in the exchange.

I also suggest you avoid dangsugar on moral grounds. Alcohol has not destroyed more lives than sugar. Diabetes is today one of the leading cause of death. In 2015, diabetes was said to be the cause of 10% of all deaths without including deaths that were caused by diabetes... https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/diabetes/diabetes-compendium/contents/deaths-from-diabetes
Complications from diabetes can affect any part of the body including the brain, heart, kidney, liver etc.
Not that I am promoting alcohol, but I sometimes ask why the world focuses more on alcohol than other more harmful substances.
smiley dont you know that salt kills too? Alcohol triggers rape, infidelity/fornication, fighting and killing, accidents, kidney/liver failure, poverty (see what alcohol is doing our loco), disgrace, etc. When sugar kills 2, alcohol has killed 20
