Garri and yam not that expensive again on the mainland. #600 and #400 respectively.
ifyalways:
One paint of garri is 800 ngn in lekki, Ojuelelegba might be 700 ngn.
A tuber of yam, 500 ngn, no less.
Derica of beans 400 ngn

It's possible @ OP but that's not cos your woman is a cheat. I'm sure you didn't buy palm oil, salt and Co. Your woman must have been buying them. Also you dare not compare your soup quality with hers. 5,000 ngn can barely cook a proper soup so your babe is not cheating you.

Trust me if I give bae same amount it will only fetch me one pot of soup and maybe one pot o beans.

Oga you're not the only one who knows the roads to the markets. Easy with your price quotations. What he said can be verified and are truth. It all depends on the location and the seller + your negotiating skills.
cruchenutii:

Tuber of yam in Festac is #800 to #1000+, At Cheapest #600 by luck. Unless you buy if from Mile 12 near Ketu.
And why will anyone go down to Mile 12 just for one Tuber of yam, You would factor in transport fare & traffic.

Last time yam was #400 was 3 years ago before Buhari came to power, I'm super sure of this.
Except he's talking about very premature yam that cannot be enough for even one person to eat.

......average Nigerians especially the females think anybody who doesn't spend his hard earned money on others is stingy...

No that doesn't suffice, but then what's money for if you can't spend it on others?

Guy you can lie for Africa. I can even bet your soups were watery and tasteless.

Guy, the five thousand can prepare more than that. Depending on where you reside and how rich you want to make your soup.

All the women shouting stingy, I know u secretly Pray to have a man like me in your life..that a man goes to the market does mean he is stingy.
Like I said, my woman is not around and I needed food that will last me for 2 weeks rather than eating out.
I already planned what and what to cook, made a list and armed myself with a little above same amount I give to bae, I was surprised to have bought all on my list with about 5k.
For ur info I make good food and my woman knows that...no woman can put in tight corner cos of food and house chores except za oza rom activity.
Babes should b sincere to us and stop padding the kitchen budget in the name of things are expensive in the market, after all we give them pocket money.

Stop that!

I once used N5,000 to prepare 2 different soups and stew!

Half a kilo of chicken: N650
Vegetable oil (a margarine cup): N100
2 Wraps of Thyme: N60 (N30 Each)
Spinach leaves: N100
28 Pieces of big ripe tomatoes: N350
3 big round onions: N150
2 pieces of Local Maggi (Okpehi or Dawadawa) (I don't use Cubes because of Sodium content): N100
Ugu leaves: N200
2 cups of melon seeds (Egusi): N140
Palm Oil (half Eva): N300
Okra: N100
Two Titus Fishes: N500
Half a kilo of Goat meat: N500
I big Stock Fish Head: N700
Cray fish (1 margarine cup):N400

TOTAL: N4,350

I already had other stuff at home like turmeric powder which I use instead of curry, salt, garlic, ginger and Semo powder and wheat powder.

I used the fish for the Okro, Goat meat and the stock fish head for the egusi, and chicken for the stew. I have my blender at home so I blend instead of grind!

So let's say I don't have a blender and decided to grind the tomatoes in the market, it won't cost me more than N100.

For people who swallow garri (I don't...i even prefer akpu)...let's say 4 or 5 cups of garri: N250

Won't it still be in the neighborhood of the same N5,000?

I cooked and filled my food plastics and I consume these things for almost 2 weeks. The two guests that had the opportunity to visit me and I served them meals were swearing that it was a woman who cooked everything because it was sooo sweet!

The thing is...most women (esp Nigerian women) are bad managers of finance!
They can't utilize money given to them to buy ordinary foodstuff talk less of managing their homes properly.

It is understandable that some still do "apriko" (keeping extra cash) from the overhead costs of what is to be bought but I should be done with conscience especially when you know your husband is not too financially buoyant.

Some are bad cooks! You will give them N50,000 and they will still cook crap that even a refuse scavenging dog can't eat!

Kudos to my mum (may her gentle soul rest in peace) whom I learnt all these from!
