Even if they attain equality or even dominance over guys what will they do with it? Take men off the charts, off the top drawer , off the labour market, off the position of authority and replace with women. What does it do for us? Will it improve global economy, will it reduce crime rate, terrorism, hatred, racism, tribalism, extremism, health challenges? Will it make our world a better place? I doubt. And if it won't do these things then it is misplaced priority on a global scale. The end goal benefits just the woman. That's selfish Men have become the power brokers of the society because of what they've achieved over historical times. Where were the women when men were building the empires of the world, discovering nations, setting standards, birthing and liberating nations through wars, giving their lives for the cause? If men are at the top today then it's because they've worked for it. What have women offered in response? And here they are trying to replace men! Go check the world's tip billionaires, 100 richest persons they are mostly men. These men have worked for it. Women who should be challenging them are winning beauty pageants, becoming models, posting nudes online, while guys be hustling. Look at cyber fraudsters, majority of Naija musicians, comedians, they are all hustlers building for themselves while their girlfriends sit back and eat shawarma, ice cream and chips. Guys are going into the studios to record songs, write lyrics, women only dance to the music produced. When the guy becomes a millionaire, the dancer of a girl is still broke They are jealous of men. They want to become men without working for it. If you want men to accept you into the top ladder you should have something to offer but no, most of what they have is nudity. It is only in easy stuff that they want to be equal...go and fight boko haram, no, work as labourers, no, hustle for urself , no.Come and become truly equal, no. Then you see the leeches on nairaland who depend on men for survival bragging about equality. On social media, that is where they brag. Y'all not ready yet 13 Likes 1 Share |

Ask her to clarify what? How can you read such a intelligent write-up and still be acting daft and dim witted? My problem is not with feminism o. What is chimamanda's business? Let her go and challenge Obama too now. She married Bill Clinton out of Love! So why can't she let the world know she's his wife and the mother of his kids? The number of men defending adichie is more than the number of women but I'm not shocked. Feminism is all about choices. Why should Hillary clarify anything for adichie? You guys on nl are beginning to paint feminists as dim witted individuals. If a lady finds happiness in being a career woman, her choice! If she finds happiness in being a house wife, her choice. You don't go about telling people to clarify any aspect of their personal life for you. Be a strong independent woman yes! Does it include cutting people off because you're strong? Tackling a woman's personal relationship is not being a strong independent woman. Hillary agreed with adichie simply because she didn't want to offend the thousands of feminists that voted for her. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Unfortunately, feminism is never about freedom of choice for women but a call for usurpation, rebel and "taking what has been denied them". It's been a trademark scheme of feminism to shame housewives, and female students who elected non-STEM courses. People like chimamanda are vengeful feminists who have a long agenda to change the world where men and women are rivals , never complementing each other . 2 Likes |

kennygee: I think you need to follow your own advice. Feminism did not begin by dragging rights with men. It begins with fighting for your own rights as a human being. Granted that Chimamanda's position is a bit extreme, and I don't even agree with it, but the kind of reactions it is generating are too extreme. 2 Likes |

Foodforthought: Feminism does not seek to replace men or to disempower them but yes women rights go hand in hand with a better economy, a decline in the poverty rate, less crime and less bigotry. Women have not been granted the same opportunities in the past so very few women could build empires (if this is anything to brag about because imperialism oppressed peoples for ages) and you are right in that women tend to participate in beauty pageants and modeling etc. It is part of the socialization that feminism seeks to alter in that it wants women to have more choices. Traditionally, women were asked to look pretty, get married and look after their homes so what you have described here is the result of such traditions. Nothing wrong with women in the beauty industry but why does it have to be the norm? And why are people, men and women, judged on the basis on their marital status? How does it define anyone? Just because you settled down, does not make you a better person. At times it makes you even more miserable. You can celebrate your marriage but do not think it makes you better or happier, even i*diots and murderers get married. And that is the crux of the matter, why would you use your marital status to describe yourself? What is so special about it? It is more special to live your life the way you want it even if it goes against anyone's expectations. This, requires strength. Anyone can conform, not everyone can rebel and lead. 2 Likes |
