OmoBendel24:

My take is always not friendly on this kind of situation. For the past two years plus, I have seen a couple of cases like this, some have had to go change moniker and ask the question again in another format and all.... Yours however is not going to get too much knocks from me, though I 80% of the times think this whole stuff was preplanned without much knowledge at the time on your part.

Well, from the few posts you have made since you joined nairaland, one can deduce that you applied for the kids maybe just few days/weeks (hardly up to a month, at most February 2017 and not April as stated by your here) after their dad's visa renewal and maybe exit (early 2017) from Nigeria. I don't want to bore you with details of my suspicions on the Canada application and the targeted tricks surrounding same. To worsen your situation, you haven't even made any travel with the first and this current visa, and you now want to show up at a US POE with your in fact real ties to naija - your kids, with a missing/overstaying husband on US soil to boot with (nodding my head)..... Hian!

@The bolded holds no water, you need the pity party. Entering the US on a B1/B2 visa may be very very difficult for you now (not entirely impossible), concentrate on Canada maybe.

Omobendel24 your take is never friendly, you should watch the way that you respond to people trying to ask valid questions in here. If you cannot give a constructive feedback without already accusing people of having an ulterior motive then you shouldn't even reply them. Everyone on the U.S. travel thread respects Seyewest because he is always helpful in a respectful manner, even when he criticises a point he gives valid reasons without point accusing fingers. The poster must have a good job that ties to her home country for her to be given visa twice in a roll without using the 1st one. By the way her kids dad's decision is his own decision and shouldn't be blamed on her. You never answered her question instead you were busy mentioning her Canada application. Is that the point here? I.T.K!! By the way on what experience do you advise people from in this thread? That's how someone once asked if they can use a naija driver's license to drive in the States and you said it's not allowed. Whereas you are allowed to hire a self-drive car even as soon as you land in the airport as long you have an International Driver's license.
Pls stop attacking posters with your suspicious mind and address issues maturedly as not to discourage people from bringing their problems here.

Thank you for your response. Its really a shame how people especially women get bullied on nairaland( i'm being factual n not playing the gender card) . No one prays to be a single mum or be deserted by her husband. Finding myself in this situation, i m going to make d best out of it. My kids will neither suffer nor lack by HIS grace. I v a respectable job ( not oil and gas oh) n i do my profession because i love it n i m obsessed with my job so why go outside naija? Besides i have my mum, sis, a live-in home help plus a nanny to look after my kids when i am at work. Abeg i go fit get all dese support for yankee? Not everyone who gets visa or asks questions here has ulterior motive.

Dear poster, I will be honest with you and tell you that the U.S. knows that your kids father is still in the States. There's a site to check every US visitor's transit in and out of the States, you just put your passport number and details and it shows you date you entered and left.https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home
If the person is still in the States it will show on the site. It's run by the U.S. DHS. However, you stated in your form that you will be travelling alone with your kids and all expenses made by you so you should be ok. If at all your kids dad is mentioned at POE simply tell the truth that he left you and his kids and you haven't heard from him. I wish you the very best. The Lord is your strength.[/quote]

I will be travelling to the USA in some days as an F1 immigrant. As a first-timer, I plan on carrying Garri, Egusi, ground beans, ground pepper, ground crayfish, Milo, Knorr, kilishi and Kulikuli. I have packaged all of these in a zipper transparent nylon bags. Please advice if I should be wary of the quantities and also must all the items be in a transparent nylon bags( most are still inside our common black/yellow and black nylon cheesy wink).

Thanks

Good day nairalanders. I thank all that gives meaningful advice on this forum. May our good lord bless you all
My cousin and his wife got their visa last year September and had a financial setback immediately after getting the visa and since then till now they have been trying to put funds together for their visit. Will there be any issue for not going to the US on time?? will they have issue at the POE for not visiting as at when they got the visa??

Is that not MMM grin grin grin
Back to your question if the visa issued to them is B1/B2 (Tourist Visa) they won't have any problem... a simple explanation will suffice.

Quantity really wouldn't matter per se, understandable as you would be there a long while and your visa permits so. I usually carry stuff in all these your stated forms of pack, my wife does the packing mostly whether we are travelling together or not.

Avoid everything "chicken", be it indomie chicken or knorr chicken.... And re-plantable seeds too. Ensure you declare truthfully what you are bringing in on the card you will be given to fill as you approach your destination, you could be fined if you under-declare and you get found out.

There would hardly be any issue as far as there's good explanation for not using it at the time and if it's being used for a related purpose to the reason it was granted in the first place. A first timer should avoid using a conference obtained for visit the very first time, this may easily become issue-laden....

Meanwhile, it will be in their best interest to show up at the POE with reasonable amount of cash, and not to even mention their financial issues stated up here as reason for using the visa late.

Thank you for your explanation. the issued visa is B1/B2 {tourim}. Offcourse they would be reasonable not to measure that finance was their reason of using it late at the POE.

Hi all, @seyewest
My case is a bit complicated. The father of my kids ( u will understand y i refuse to call him husband)n i Got our first us visa in april 2014 n found out i was pregnant afterwards. Since i did not want to violate the terms of my visa ( visit n not for baby) i stayed in naija to v my baby. I also could not travel cos where i work u dont get an annual leave in d same year u get maternity leave ( u can only v one). I had my baby in september of 2014 n realised i was pregnant again in january 2015. Again i cld not travel dat year cos same situation of annual n maternity leave arose. In addition to dat, i got a double promotion at work n it did not look wise to take a vacation when i had just been promoted. Had my baby in oct 2015. To cut d long story short, dat visa expired n it was not used. I n d father of my kids applied for another visa in dec 2016 n it was granted. The father of my kids travelled early 2017 with d understanding dat he will return after a month. After two months, he stopped communicating with i n d kids n all efforts to reach him prove abortive. I know he s alive n well in d US cos his sisters tell me so. I v put dat aspect of my life behind me n need to be strong for my kids. I want to be able to give dem the best.
My questions are two- 1) i applied for and got visas for my kids in april 2017. I want to travel to the USA with them on vacation for 22 days. I hope their father's defection will not affect our chances of entering the USA?
2) My visa expires early december 2018 n i plan to travel in september 2018 as dat is when i have my annual leave. Is it to close to my visa expiry date? Thanks in advance n no pity party pls ( as regards d father of my kids) life happens n dis i v taken in good faith. I m happy n my kids are

I happen to know someone that was in exactly the same situation as you, when she got to America CBP asked about her husband (she explained told them the truth). They cancelled their visas (both for her and her kids) and sent them all back. You "may" have a slightly different outcome if you were never married to the father of your kids("may" being the operative word) but if he's your husband...hmmm, it must likely won't end the way you want it.
But what do I know...

hi guys greet job, please I have a question. I was in the USA for a conference last year, and after the conference I spent some time with my cousin about 2 months in total. now I want to go on holidays this time around, it's exactly 1yr I went. so I told my cousin to invite me. but she said she couldn't because she has invited too many people recently and she didn't want any issues with the authority. so she asked me to go with a conference, but the available ones are expensive and i can't afford them before may ending as that is when I'll be free to go. so my question is that do I need an invite to go on holidays and must I go with a conference?. I feel since I came back once before and I have an international job here in naija, I shouldn't have a problem with the Poe.. thanks for the anticipated answers

thanks a lot, I appreciate your input. but the issue is if the POE officer asks where I am going to, I'll have to tell them I am going to her place. I don't want wahala for her
or do you think the POL officer won't ask?

Sorry, lemme understand some bit clearer please. Do you have a valid visa still? If yes, your challenge is small, if no, the stakes are higher and could prove challenging even as small as it seems. Overall, you are yet good.

I might be wrong but I thought this thread is to give insights about the POE procedure. my main question is hope I won't be too grilled, I don't want to just blow ticket money and implicate a cousin.

You have used the visa for what it was issued for, using it again for vacation or to visit your sister is not a problem.
Cbp: why are you here
You: for vacation or to visit my sister

But why did you spend two months on your last visit?
