Hey,
I know about the Texas A & M system but I wasn’t familiar with the Kingston one.

The main message I was trying to pass across was that we should shoot higher shots. I just joined nairaland and 80% of the schools people have mentioned on this thread don’t even have any ranking. In other words, these school arent worthy/accredited enough to be ranked. That’s a very big thing. A lot of people here are blinded by the fact that the schools are in the US. They don’t know that there’s no prospect in some of these schools. I’m definitely not saying it must be an Ivy League, but let it be a decent school. Top 1000 in the world should be the minimum threshold.
Hey, keep wallowing in your ignorant....
And for your information, there’s no school as “Texas A&M the Kingston one” .....if you can’t do research about schools in the US, then just shut the Bleep up, and refrain from discouraging people here. Not everyone can afford to go to MIT and the likes.
And as someone has rightly pointed out, school ranking doesn’t automatically secure your dream job, you have to work towards getting such job irrespective of your school ranking.
For example, I came across a student from UPenn who’s looking for Summer Internship, meanwhile, many students from TAMUK which you perceived as a dead school got offers from Intels/IBM during the last NSBE convention/career fair in Pittsburgh.....
The bottom line is; u don’t choose school based on how it sounds to you. If MIT, Vanderbilt, etc are the schools that pleases you, you don’t have publicly condemn other schools that you don’t even know about. I repeat, If you are not informed, just keep shut....
If you aren’t ignorant, you would never try to compare any accredited university here in the US with Unilag and your Covenant University....you are only exposing your ignorance further.

Finally, my advice to prospective applicants. Just ensure that your school/program is accredited, get the right skill sets in your desired field, build a very good resume and you will be good for job/internships opportunities here. Those so called lowly ranked school will help you unleash your potential that you might never discover if you keep waiting in Nigeria to get into the top/Ivy League schools.

I'm 17 years
Going for an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at McNeese State University in Louisiana.
I also got admitted to the honors college with a full ride scholarship.
My visa interview was for 6:45 in the US consulate in Lagos State.
The answers were not as good as what I wrote because I was very nervous. I'm not sure if question are in that particular order.

Me: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning, your passport please.
VO: And your I-20.
I passed all the documents.
VO: So why did you choose McNeese State University?
Me: (I can't really remember what I said but I said something about being admitted into the honors college and what the honors college has to offer.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 2
VO: What Is the Other?
Me: UTPB
VO:Why mechanical engineering
Me: I've always had the passion to study mechanical engineering from a young age and I did well in my STEM subjects in high school.
VO: Who sponsoring you?
Me: I received a full ride scholarship from the school.
VO: You'll still need little money to cover some living expenses, who'll cover that?
Me: Ok, My Dad.
VO: What does he do?
Me: He's a licensed Chartered Accountant.
Vo: When did you graduate from secondary school?
Me: Last year, 2017.
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: No
VO: What courses will you be taking?
Me: I'll be taking courses in engineering graphics, Calculus 1 (I stopped talking because I taught she said something).
VO: I'm sorry I will not approve your visa today but you can apply later.

I don't know what to do but I'll apply soon. I also want to join Education USA is that a good idea?

And i feel you should remove the discussion on the laboratory part. All universities(if not all, most of the universities permitted to issue out I20,) will have a well equipped lab. And you used "a" meaning One..if am not wrong, the university of wyoming has about 10 labs,
university of Iowa has about 50 workstations available to just Computer science dept.. So i think if your talking about well equipped laboratory he VO might just think your looking for points(irrelevant)to convince him..

Or if you want to talk about laboratory, you can compare it to the other universities you applied to. Talking about the standard of the University lab(research equipments etc) to the other schools you applied to, will be a better approach.(but if you'll mention research, be clear on what particular research is going on)

...
My lil idea.. Thanks
God will crown your effort with success...

Amen thank you bro

Please I want to apply to this school next fall. Can you give me any hint advice or probably state ur profile if I can tap from it.... Preparing for GRE. Wes Eval: 3.60

Thanks

Depends on the department.
For Electrical Engineering.
TOEFL must be 88 and above.
GRE ( quantitative ) must be 155
To get TA or RA is very competitive.

I had 317 in GRE ( 160 Quantitative )
TOEFL was 97
Undergraduate was 3.82
Write your SOP yourself and ensure it reflects who you really are and your career goals.
Wish you all the best.

Lol i do..
Its just that on the Ds160 i filled My mums name as my sponsor. And then i have been hearing " say only what you filled in your Ds160".. And you know "Parents"(mum nd Dad).. Well thanks. I understand, am only trying to be extremely cautious.

Don't you know that you filled your mum name as sponsor while you picked parents as sponsor. Telling vo that your parent is correct or your mum is correct.

Hello house pls kindly help me with your advice.
I just graduated last year and I studied communication technology in National open university.
I came out with 2.89 as my cgpa.
I am aiming to apply for masters degree program in USA but do I still need TOEFL or GRE test?
Are there schools that don't ask for this?
Please I need your advice so I can start my application processing.
Thank you very much.

Bros, dem get new branch for Kingston, Jamaica. grin grin
I don’t get why some people choose to be a classic bully, armed with the “I better pass u mentality”.... but in reality they are the most ignorant bunch on planet Earth. Same way she mocked someone’s TOEFL score, Forgetting All Fingers Are Not Equal.
