EgunMogaji:
"From the benefit of hindsight and historically, most distribution of power sectors realised that when you introduce prepaid meters, revenue drops. Because it is prepaid, people get conscious of consumption and they thereby reduce usage. Then we discovered that prepayment leads to more bypassing. If we meter the distribution transformers, at least we can audit and know what energy has gone to a particular area and from there we can then see the bills that have not been issued. We will know that within that locality there is an issue and we can then send our team to go and look at what is happening. We have decided to do a mix: post-paid metering, prepaid metering and also metering the distribution transformers. By this, we will be able to have real case scenarios."

shocked

If people get conscious of what they are consuming and reduce usage, will that not make power available for other users?? Or is there any idle load that is not being mopped up at some other areas? Because as far as everyone can remember, enough is not being produced.

You can enjoy affordable power 24/7 and reduce your stress

ElGood:
DISCOs Must Go On The 2nd November 2018

The power distribution was handed over to the new buyers on the 1st November 2013.
The share purchase agreement says the government can take it back if the performance of the buyers is not satisfactory after five years and that will be on the 2ND NOVEMBER 2018.
The basis of performance evaluation were clearly stated in the agreement signed between FG and the Discos, and Discos were expected to complied with those clauses, but they have violated virtually all.
Firstly, they were asked to metered all customers within three years (2016) and today more than 70% are yet to have their prepaid meters.
Hence, indiscriminate and over estimated billings they were are asked to tackled with the deployment of these prepaid meters within the five years become worse as more than 50% of the customers are still on estimated charges.
Secondly, while signing the agreement in 2013 they agreed to reduced both technical and commercial losses by upgrading and building infrastructures in their network, they vehemently refused to do that, as those losses are been pushed to consumers in form of over billings for what they never consumed.
Today, we are generating above 7000MW but the Discos refuses to distributes purely because of their inefficiency as in many instances rejects allocations from transmission, hence keeping Nigerians in darkness.
Because of the facts that they don't have an adequate experience and at the same time coming from nowhere, they are all bearing Disco based on their area of coverage, e.g Kano Disco, Abuja Disco and so on..
Furthermore, because of the liquidity issues, they will never be allowed to have a business name like what we have in telecom sector.
If we generate 1,000,000MW today there will be no adequate supply because those guys that called themselves new buyers are inexperience and never bought it for service delivery.
President Muhammadu Buhari has the legal right to ask these guys to go on the 2ND NOVEMBER 2018 as specified in the agreement and bring on board experience investors that has the technical, financial and competent manpowers to make the sector workable for the overall interest of all.
Failure to send these rogues and their agents from the power sector on the 2ND NOVEMBER 2018, PMB will not only fail in the sector but all other sectors that depend on power to strive..
Mr President MUST do the needful on the 2ND NOVEMBER 2018 to save the power sector and as well positively change the history of power supply in Nigeria.
then this will be the biggest achievement of PMB if accomplished. and biggest record Nigeria will ever have.

Prepaid meters puts you in control of your consumption of electricity, which means discos cant crazy bill you, so discos have resorted to frustrating your ability to get meters.

Failed nation

Ordinary national identity card, we fail

Ordinary prepaid meter, we fail

Ordinary constant electricity, we fail

Ordinary good road, we fail

Ordinary standard education system, we fail

Ordinary good health care system, we fail

What have we ever done excellently in Nigeria.

Yet, the same set of politicians will patronize us again and the dumbs among us will still fight for them.

So terrible

OK,,here is what I learnt from a PHCN official:
He said it has come to the notice of the PHCN that some people have known different ways to manipulate the meter to minimize the credit usage & work even when there's no credit on it. Well, this could have been leaked by any of their operators who install them.
Secondly, all I could deduce from all the story he said was the fact that they could no longer cheat those who make use of the prepaid meters. They no longer pay for what they do not use:DConsidering your own pocket, you may think it is too cheap. Not everyone can afford it even at cheaper rate. While some guys do that for just fun, there are some who think it is a better way to pay PHCN back for cheating people.

Considering all that, PHCN might not release the prepaid meters soon until they secure means to make sure they don't run at loss

For starters, there is no company called PHCN anymore as it was unbundled 6 years ago. In its place, the GEJ government sold licences to 6 GENCOs and 11 DISCOs while retaining one TRANSCO to be ran by the government.

The GENCOs/DISCOs were to be sold to existing international firms with certified financial and technical capacities to acquire, revamp, upgrade and operate these electricity assets to the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians. Alas, the GEJ administration sold all of these assets to their cronies who all set up SPVs solely for the purchase of the electricity assets in order to sit back and milk them as cash cows!

The current owners don't have the technical knowhow, financial capacity or even the desire to develop the companies that were bequeathed unto them and for this reason, pre-paid metering is dead on arrival in this country! Regular power supply is also even dead before arrival!!

My prepaid metre runs faster than Usain Bolt bro. Once I load 4K recharge, under one and half weeks it’s finish and everything in my house is energy saving. I have gone to BEDC office to complain more than 40 times and what they did do about it? Nothing! I go dey waste my fuel driving there everyday? The country don Kukuma kpafuka Finish so many I dey enjoy my own way of looting too na.
I was made to understand there is a way to adjust it to suit minimal consumption. Try and make friend with one of the technicians at BEDC he would guide you and if chanced could come to your house and adjust it. Better still, any trained technician could do that.
All the best.

And what federal government, DISCOS AND GENCOS don't understand is that non availability of prepaid meters is also the reason why many people are wasting energy. If every household connected to the power grid has prepaid meter, the rate at which people are wasting energy will be drastically reduced and power supply will be available for longer hours.

They know.

bros, I am business minded, so when problems become too much, it triggers my inquisitive mind and intrigue me.

I didn't pay attention until a few weeks ago but the last few days has been intensely pulling my attention to it.

If not that I don't have connection in high places, getting this meter is at simple as ABC and it's not even as expensive as it is sold in Nigeria and my fear is getting arrested if I should start selling it.

And @blank calling me a criminal is just the most ignorant person on this thread.

those people they claim to manufacture in Nigeria are just fooling around. They don't manufacture shiiit. Na Assembling dem dey do.

But I will try to see if I can break into the niche since one guy says they are offering license. The demand is fuuucking high and one can't afford to miss on such hot market.

I created this thread from the stand point of an ignorant person intentionally for a reason to answer two questions that came to my mind when the idea hit me.

1. Is it politics or 2 is it really scarce. If it were 1, then bad news and if it is 2, then good news.

Apparently the scarcity is no1, politics...

One of those times one wish they have connections.

That's because you're a crook. You're part of the people spoiling the power sector so no need to look towards govt because it is made up with people like you. People who are always looking for a shortcut for the system not to work. You can justify yourself to your praise singers who do not know better but you know what you are proposing is stealing electricity no matter how you term it.

It's because of people like you that the disco's think they are losing money on prepaid and are not ready to continue to fund it. After all, anyone can now buy meters. Keep channeling the money into your slush fund.

NERC have made a rule that anyone can buy meters. So, why not go to the disco, get their spec and buy it. Give it to them to fix and integrate into their system.

You are just a frustrated Nigerian like many before you.

I don't know how you can be this heartless to continue supporting the none availabilty of meter while the nepa guys keep bringing exorbitant bills for them to pay.

You are a dunce and irritating slowpoke because I see no reason why you should support none availability of the meter...

The discos don't want to make it available for people and they hell bent on exorbitant charges.

Work with who, egghead? Who told you the ones in Nigeria are not imported? Does Nigeria have the tech to manufacture such things aside assemblage?

Take your frustration out of here... I have started making enquiries and I will make sure I get to the root of it... God will shame evil imbeciles who are happy with status quo that incarcerate Nigerians in perpetual darkness.

My recent enquiries revealed like most people clearly stated on here that the meter isn't available because they are making money estimated billings.

I followed a friend to their office two months back and dude was frustrated, look at similar stories of people that shared their experiences on here wherein they have requested for the meter multiple times but not able to get it... But evil minded persons like you like to see Nigerians wreath in pains and agony.

I will fight for the meter to be available... Depart from me evil witch!
