Seems you are with me in this. I think Education and too much exposure is doing more harm than good which is making a lot of ladies lose good men that comes their ways. In this girl case, what happens to those illiterate that impregnate themselves anyhow without doing any test. How many cases of SS have they recorded with the way people sleep around without checking their genotype status. Our forefathers didn't do all these funny test before they give birth to our healthy parents. I just have the believe that if AS vs AS couple have the mind or thought of given birth to SS, it will surely come to them. One needs to be positive in life.
Judging from ur comment, I guess western education is haram. Ur mumu don climb fence, na to fly remain remain.

you sound so intelligent but you speak foolishly.

Funny you compare it with our forefathers. Ask your father how many children his grand father had, and how many survived?

Alot if children died of sickle cell anemia, but sadly they may have been labelled ogbanje, or abiku.

My friend sickle cell is real, pls do your genotype test and stop sounding like an illiterate.
Don't mind the Bunkum. Taking as if he has the detailed history of his forefathers lives. Odoyo, wey dey live for Adolor road. grin. Na d type NYSC go probe as to how e take graduate.

Some comments up there show the level of education we tend to have in this country. I don't think an educated fellow would argue about the genuineness of genotype. There are life proofs of those suffering from this sickle cell disease.
In our Fore-Father days, many children died due to ignorance, assuming there are data then one would have seen the number of children that have died due to this menace. Most children deaths are related to ABIKU and OGBANJE.
And as for those saying there are many people birthing now without the occurrence of sickle cell, I think those people are ignorant. One can't use few cases of people he or she know to generalize and make a conclusion. There are data in the country to show the occurrence of this sickle cell disease.
Many people are suffering from this. It is better to avoid this occurrence from happening. SO KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE TODAY.

Nope but have Physical prove, you just wonder why someone playing with you smiling and in the next few hrs she is down crying, sick, dull, starting having unexplained sickness. Well I never believed in such before until I realized that was what has been happening to the person I know, took her to SC center opposite LUTH, got her register and now she can manage it very well even.
So based on that prattle of a comment up there, cld u ask her to tell u if her forefathers also knew wat u do, how hospitals were very much available back then, yet such names as abiku and ogbanje wr the order the day?

It's not expensive. It actually costs less than a meal at Mr Biggs.

Thy did not do tests but they lost their children all the same. How else would you explain the Ogbanje myth? Have you ever witnessed a crisis? Have you met with a SS yet?

I can relate. Very heart0breaking.

This is the problem associated with living in a third world country.

In advanced world this is no issh cos they can always check the genotype of a young foetus before it advances and if it is AS they will just do the needful and even if you bring SS to the world, they usually live a normal life to their 50s.

GBAM.

,

YOU ARE FORGETTING SOMETHING MR MAN!

ever stopped to ask why in those same old days we have a lot of cases where parents lost a lot of kids before one will finally survive , something the Yoruba's call abiku?

those are cases of SS children back in the days ..

any small thing we start to scream in those days, our old parents this and that..

have you forgotten that in those days pur parents eats good, natural fresh foods,?

have you forgotten that they take lots and lots of herbs?

have you forgotten that use of chemical to grow and ripe foods and fruits was non existent ?

..in those days things where different !

NOW THE REALITY IS AS MARRIES AN AS .. WILL LIKELY LOOSE FOUR KIDS OUT OF FIVE ..
(abiku comes to mind)

what it means is that if you prepare to give birth to 10 at least 2 should survive , ( if you can spend enough on their food intake, weather , environment , drugs etc..)..

now the question is , does it really worth it?..

some scientific beliefs are false at times ..no doubt about that..

but on this one . ITS A CLEAR FACT !

1. The cost of doing intrauterine tests is very expensive even in developed countries
2. That means doing abortion for all children who are potentially SS inutero
3. In advanced countries the life expectancy is in the 70s
4. All these because a parent was too selfish to do the right thing at the right time...

Stories like this really annoy me..
you have a 75% chance of giving birth to health babies yet you dump a good man.. You are not ready to get married
Still there's nothing wrong giving birth to an SS child, not all of them turn out sickly or suffer the prolonged pains, i have seen a couple in their 50's and 60's leaving healthy lives running to their ripe old age.
Meanwhile who says marrying an AA wont bear you an slowpoke, autistic, leukemic child or a potential kid who becomes an armed robber in future.
