Run to Canada run to Canada, if trump insist on this his new taflrrif idea old boy Canada don cast. I will advice you go into buying and selling anything that won't make you too much dependant on staffs and nepa. Then you are good. But that your 9m will vanish if you go into water business.

I know its Canada you want to , but it might interest you to know that with 9m and no debt, you are richer than 25% of Americans .

Thank you for coming to seek advice here. You would 've made the greatest mistake of your life if you had started that pure water business. My former landlord lived all his life abroad. Due to pressure from family, he decided to come home to stay and invest infact he ran away after spending so much on diesel for powering his pure water business. He eventually sold that portion and escape back to Europe. There is no conducive business environment here. Going to Canada is the best option. But you 've to first get to USA. And find a way to cross over to Canada from new York. My friend did that and I 've details on how he made it. However you 've to declare yourself to the authorities at the Canadian border . There after necessary documentation will be made, lawyer assigned to you and temporary stay of two years pending when your PR will be ready. During this period you will be taking care of by gov't You will 've a job and you will be doing 100 percent better than a rich man here. . That way 70percent percent of your 9million will be in a savings account just for you. The only difficult part of this trip is getting to USA from naija. I mean getting visa

If you try this be rest assured you would regret your entire life even in your death, you would still be regretting

Please and please start a pure water business. Yes I know there are a whole lot of problems on ground here in this country but travelling out should not be on ur mind considering the amount that is with you. You can start a cottage pure water business with 5m.
Assuming you will be travelling to American.. The cost of flight is 1.3m .....if you don't have where you gonna stay that is another problem.. You start paying rent from the inception.
Oh you mention Msc ....thats gonna cost much as well and you may not find a beffiting job anytime soon.

U mean cost of flight alone abi e get another flight?

Your case is different...
9 million is big on paper, but when it enters the battle field, logistics will come and choke it...
Manufacturing is not as easy as most people think,it involves a whole network of logistics, most people who succeed in manufacturing actually gained experience and contacts from their days in buying and selling viz wholesale, retail, distributorship, etc
If you can settle in Canada with a PROFESSIONAL JOB,it will be nice...
Otherwise I will suggest you think of another line of business, starting with buying and selling before growing into manufacturing...
I totally object to buying and selling.
I will suggest a service rendering kind of biz.
If you're in Lagos, think about Keke transportation biz.
One keke sells for 640k, plate number and other logistics will take the total cost to almost 700k after wish ur Keke can hit the road for their money. Having said that, if u invest 7million to put 10 Keke on the road on an hire purchase agreement, each will give u 1m after 14 months ,profit from each will be 300k. Imagine 300k *10 Keke, in 14 months u will have both ur investment capital and a total profit of 3m. This is legit. I am into it and it's cool.

If u ask me, I think 3 million naira profit on an investment of 7 million for 14 months is not bad.

Remember, patience and discipline is key to succeed in this biz and I'm sure the op has it.

Mr OP, your 9million divided into 4 quarters of FG treasury bills with a min if 10% interest rate would fetch you about 900k * 4 yearly while you keep strolling to your contract job knowing you're functioning on full cylinders.

What you're feeling now is all in your head, don't squander that 9mill only to regret tomorrow oooo. For someone like me that loves risk, I'll multiply that 9mill by 3 given 1 year tops.

Study the pure water biz intoto but I believe there are more lucrative venture to multiply that cash.
Baba, you too much for this tip.

I wonder why a banker like him couldn't even forget the money in the money market and go home to sleep and let the money work for him because 9 million yield on any T.Bills Tenor alone is big money payout.

The guy should really put this into consideration. It's the reason they often say, the rich gets richer and poor gets poorer.

With your determination please continue to save up till 15 million. Pure water business are not sustainable so think of toothpick or polystrene food packs. Canada will only Favour you based on the skills you have attained here and being in a bank for some many years I am not sure how marketable your current skills are.

Good day all,

I have been confused on what to do with the money I have saved. I am a contract staff in one of the banks and I have saved considerable amount of money over the years I have been working there. But I am tired of my job, as same as many of my colleagues who wish they had one quarter of the money I had saved to quit the job.

I am not a lazy man I am very hardworking as adhuged by my supervisors but the issue is I have stayed on one spot for too long and no promotion. My greatest joy is that I was able to achieve a masters degree in a federal university in nigeria while working but my job doesn't give me time to even look out for other jobs.
So please guys I am throwing this up here because I know on this thread there are people who have been in my situation before that made the better choice and are happy for it.
I have two very important decisions to make either to use the money I have saved to travel abroad for school for masters and hopfully settle down there or to stay here in Nigeria to start up a pure water production factory but Nigeria and it's uncertainties keeps discouraging me. kindly note that I have saved up to 9million naira to take up any of these ventures and I am 35 years not yet married.
Please I need honest advice to a brother there are some persons like me who will benefit from this advice we render.
Thank you

If you have good credentials
Like working
Hate the fact that Nigeria has nothing to offer you as long as you’re not in power
Hate the fact that many things couple cripple your business, not to talk about spiritual complexities
Bros if I were you. I would relocate to Canada peacefully and leave this country. You’ve saved enough to travel don’t make the mistake many people made. Be smart !

My brother, firstly, from what I’ve heard, pure water business brings in money like ritual money. Lol. I’m not an expert but I believe in entrepreneurship and you can understudy the pure water business for 6 months and decide if you want to delve into it or any other business. You can never go wrong in Food, Clothing or Shelter business.
As for traveling to Canada, FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone makes it look rosy but trust me, for every job you think you deserve $10s, there are 10 Asians and Arabs willing to do it for $3s. Your N9m converted to Canadian dollars isn’t much and when you factor in rent and feeding, it’ll evaporate under 6months and then what?
Hustle hard and become a “Big man” in your country. Canada isn’t what it used to be. It’s now overcrowded with immigrants and they have an edge over you cos your Naija Masters without years of experience might not measure up to an immigrant that has worked for 10 years in McDonald’s as a petty cashier in the U.S.
Anyways, your money, your decision. Good luck
can we hook up?

Some one mentioned Treasury Bills...you can invest One million in that...

500k or another one million..is a lot of money to be put inside mini import that can generate 3million or more in one year..if you thread well.

I love the idea of Canada so don't kill it...am just saying spread your risks.. apply for Canada while your still working..while doing the above suggestions..so that before the application is ready Iluv made a lot more..at the same time spreading your risk to be safe..but it Canada show...cut out

Op, Buy Treasury bills or Mutual money funds, Let the money work for you, You could also go to Canada and study while you get your pay out when when it matures or stay back and sleep in the house and still get your pay out upon maturity. The only work you need to do is get a credible account officer. I'm surprised you a banker and don't know about this.

Money market investment is the reason, The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.

I hope you get a good advice.

For me, I would be more inclined to relocate. However,
What I will say is don't be in a haste. Gather as much info as possible. Things continue to change and opportunities come up every day. Purewater business is seriously poluting the environment. I hope a technology replaces it someday.

But please advice us too. How did you manage to save up to 9m? How many years have you worked? Did it all come from your salary or you have other sources of income? Did you just leave your money in a savings account or you invested it in such things like fixed deposit, FGN bonds, etc?

Please advice us. Thanks.

Masters in Canada no not right away,It seems you haven't heard of the Express Entry program that if you get gives you permanent residency and then you can pay the same school fees as a citizen and ultimately can apply to become a Canadian citizen in 3years. Google is your friend fortunately there is a thread on Nairaland for that follow that link you must be willing to read and ask informed questions to be abet to DIY I advice you DYOR.

https://www.nairaland.com/4212543/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled#62945314

Nothing is cast in stone,My advice will be hold on to your job first take your time to research and study both prospects and weigh your options.

My personal advice would be do the EE Program and give yourself another option in a saner Country that doesn't have the drama that comes with Nigeria and it's corrupt Leaders but then that's just me,Some people have the dodgeness and unwavering believe to stay on and make it here in Nigeria.Different strokes different people.

At the end of the day,I pray the spirit guides you to make the best decision for your life.

All the best.

They cannot burst that route that's why they are advising USA to scrutinise people they give visa to come to USA. Part of that arrangement is having Canadian official as part of USA official to interview anyone coming to USA. If you pass that interview and you find your way to USA, nobody can stop you from entering Canada.

Lets chat as pals. I currently live in Canada and by God's grace a full time permanent employee of the govt.

I came in for masters - U of Waterloo back in 2012. Before then I was in lagos hustling big gtime. Had one of the best results from oau - first class - but no job after nysc.

So here's my 2 cents:
You are 35yrs old and have N9m and currently employed. If u relocate here, it will take u almost 5yrs to be stable - School, job, PR, etc... That's for sure. So unless u r willkng to spend another 5yrs to do all these, stay at home bro.

You claim to have 9m. If i had 2m back then I swear f***k abroad. I'd stay at home. Many people don't have half of ur money yet they are doing perfectly well. Why would u want to throw that away?

If you are not getting promotions at work, improve urself with qualifications. With 9m my network of business and social connections go badt pass anything. Improve ur network. Roll with people who would give u better job opportunities.

At 35yrs + N9m u wan go start from the scratch in a strange land ? Your momsy no dey follow u talk? Shouldn't u be planning on settling down?

Canada is best for young people coming in before 27yrs...anything later, u 'll be delayed (settling in) by almost 5yrs if u r lucky. So do the arothmetic bros.

Cheers.

@OP I think you made the first mistake to come here seeking advice. I have read all the comments and I’m not surprise with the comments here. I would drop some things here, but I don’t know if it would help you.

- Your N9m is relatively not much. However, if you are resilient you can convert that money to an empire.

- You already have a Masters, why go for another Masters again in Canada. If you are looking at education as a means to immigrate, please note there are other ways to immigrate to Canada apart from Education. What many people don’t tell you is the pains they go through during schooling. You don’t need to go through that stress to immigrate since you have a masters and why would an Employer employ an individual with 2 Masters. He seems confused academically or too expensive as a staff. The average highest degree in Canada is Bachelors and Canada is big on experience rather than academics. Canada is also big on soft skills than technical skills. If you want to immigrate, please note that you have to be prepared. You cannot escape Bills as it’s being done in Nigeria. Also, you cannot get rich quick or get rich at all, but you may afford the basic things of life which is treasured as Gold in Nigeria. You cannot oppress anyone abroad materially because the average Jones on the street is just like you and basically has everything you have. The only people you can impress is Nigerians in Nigeria or illegal immigrants. Nobody send you for abroad. So that Nigerian mentality of getting rich is useless.

- On the other hand, the business environs in Nigeria is tough and comes with challenges. I cannot tell you to go and do business because only you would face the challenge.

First, You need to sit down and evaluate your life. You seem dissatisfied. It’s normal. Do you want to switch job. If you get a job as a permanent staff, would you be more happy? If that’s the case, then start looking for a job. If you claim you don’t have time, then you don’t want another job.

Also, another question you should be asking yourself - why do you want to start a business? Do you have the entrepreneurial skills? Do you have the ability to be resilient when there are challenges? Are you a good sales man? Do you have people skills and can you manage people and motive them positively? Do you hate working for others? If these are your question, then start your business. If you cannot answer these questions, your N9m will go down the drain and put you under pressure.

Finally if you are considering the immigration route - why do you want to immigrate? Do you want to switch career or environment? Are you a flexible person that can adapt? Are you willingly to change your opinion? Can you integrate properly? There is no money to pick on the streets in the western world? You actually work thoroughly for every hour and on the hour? The Canada you want to run to still operates the Contract worker stuff. In fact it’s a normal practice, but as a contractor, you may earn more or less depending on your skill set, experience and the need for your skill. So you maybe running away from being a contract staff only to end up being another contract staff. It’s just a Nigerian perception crap and poor labour law that makes contract staff look like stench.

I have written more than I initially prepare to.
