Mehn those Czech guys sabi park bus shaa.... They are a well schooled team in parking the bus and playing the long balls.

Our "seemingly usual" slow start aided them into getting a goal and Uzoho cannot be blamed for it. Any aerial ball coming from a corner can head anywhere depending on angle of contact... Headers are some of the toughest balls to stop once contact is made and it is on goal... You better hope your goalie is well positioned.
Uzoho positioned himself well enough to stop the first header "via passive reflex".. He didn't even see it coming his way, most keepers don't react quickly enough to headers at close range but Uzoho was well positioned enough to make a first stop.

The rebound was always and always gonna beat him as Kalas hit the ball in a manner that made it bounce High and over an already grounded Uzoho, who went to ground immediately after making that save (thanks to his initial positioning).

The Czechs scored from that corner and would have scored another but Patrick Schick blew it... Uzoho did well coming out too on that occasion and making himself big for Schick. Late pressure from ekong or was it balogun, also helped slightly.

One thing I am just so happy to see is that Our Ndidi is back. That was my biggest concern coming into this game and he showed he is battle ready.

I wish our opponents a great time getting to figure out how to play us. Coz it is obvious Rohr didn't play with all our best options at the same time in all these friendlies executed.

Rohr kept on tinkering and tinkering till the last minute of this friendly. Lol

How can you ignore the defensive prowess of Ekong?

Hahahahahaha!

Let us cool down.

I am really impressed with Brian but he has to do better by finding the best positioned player to score before he thinks of scoring.

He should also work on scoring goals.

I think Nigerian fans all over the World have cause to worry. And the team deserves all what critisms it will receive from now till 16th June.

Areas to worry about:

The front line is still blunt. Ighalo has underlined his inability to effectively lead the attack. His positioning has always let him down plus he does too much outside the dangerous areas. Nwankwo is like a fresh breath of Air. We need to see more of him. Also Rohr needs to find how to effectively utilize Iheanacho. He also is key to our campaign

The backline is still shaky. There have been occasional moments of indecisions especially between the CBs and also wrong/misplaced passes.Conceding goals in almost every game says alot about the defense.

The midfield is not doing enough to support the attack. Mikel is yet to hit gear.

Rohr feels more comfortable with a back 4 formation but his team seems to play better with the formation that has a back 3. He needs to decide from now till June 16 which he will adopt as the baseline setup as limited number of substitutions affects your tactical switch.

Some positives:

Iwobi: He, and not Mikel or Moses, seem to be the main actor on the pitch. He is the New orchestra leader. His switch from LAM to RAM to CAM and to CM underlines his status as a Super utility player to this team. My hope here may just be that his high work rate does not lead to us losing him to injury.

Ogu: He is a player that can easily switch positions (from DM to CB) when we switch tactics. He spares Rohr one substitution spot. Players like this are always so valuable to a team.

Uzoho: He has continued to grow in confidence and made some important saves in our last few games. His positioning has been his major strength. He, however, needs to do more in commanding his area.

The last 3 results do not look good for us as a team that wants to take the world by storm. But, I still have hopes in this team.

We are Nigeria! And we rise to the occasion when the need arises. That is the naija spirit.

Looks like we played badly from the few comments I've seen on twitter.
Caught like a two minute glimpse of the game and I noticed something a bit odd - Iwobi was playing behind Mikel. Was it a one off thing or it happened for a bit??
Oh and baba Forgiveness, your analysis please.

TheSuperNerd:
Ighalo had two shots on target in the first half. I give him kudos for especially pulling off that first save from the Cezch keeper. But the best chance he had came in the second half and he played a silly tame shot. He blew it. Ighalo had three shots in all... All on target but one was so weak and silly (that was the third in the second half). In the first half, he did well getting that shot off and his second also was saved before the ref called for an infringement.

Ighalo may have bagged a goal today if Idowu had the sense to feed him on two occasions. Idowu killed off two of our attacking chances. Sad.

But this is not to exonerate Ighalo. He did have chances and could not bury them. Also, he is not mobile enough. I really am scratching my head on him because he is our starting 9 going to Russia... Unless... wink

This is the second time Ighalo is firing a weak shot on goal, the first was against Serbia.

Am not comfortable with Ighalo as our no.9.

I also think Rohr has a different formation for Croatia.

Iwobi is one of our best strikers but Rohr chose to play him as a deep lying playmaker.

I think Rohr intentionally played Joel and Onazi against England.

All this points to one formation, the formation we used in the second-half of the game against Argentina.A formation without Moses,Onazi,Joel and Ighalo.

Rohr used the friendlies to eliminate any form of question from Nigerians on why Onazi,Joel,Ighalo and Moses didn't feature against Croatia, and his plan worked out as no one will be surprised if any of the above is dropped after a poor performance against England and Czech republic.
If so, he confused our opponents and made his starting XI free from criticism.
Just my thoughts.

Mehn rohr is hella funny. I don’t know why he just don’t wanna do the right thing. Play your best formation and use your best personnel that suit such formation. I’m talking about 3:5:2

Moses(left wing back)
Ebuehi( right wing back)
Play nacho and iwobi as false 9s
Mikel, ogu and Ndidi should be in midfield.
Omeruo, ekong and balogun should be the three centre-backs. If he really wanna win, he should play iwobi as false 9. Rohr should stop playing politic with our tactic.. drop ighalo to da bench. The point is too simple in goodjoe voice!.
If he wanna keep playing politic with tactic then I should better remove my mind from this team. I can’t come n die ontop their matter. Nonsense

Fellow Eagulians.

I assure you all - we gonna see a different Eagle at the Mundial. We are able to keep our Tactics away from the Oppositions.

The Oppositions are as confused as the Fans. They don't know what's gonna happen at the Mundial, kinda difficult for the Scouts spying on us to analyze the Team credibly.

Kudos to Rohr, and I'm kinda satisfied with the 2nd Half Display.
Thank you for this.

In a moment of crisis, in a moment of defeat the worst kind of men to be surrounded with are fickle minded, bread - on the - water kind of guys.

Come on guys! We too dey cry. Now there's cry for Rohr to be sacked, all kinds of puerile, inane talk. Whatever happened to keeping faith?

Keep the faith. If they fail, no yawa. If your faith comes to fruition, great.

It's not defeat that matters. It's our reactions.

Friends, Countrymen, Nairalanders......

Another friendly has come and gone. Kudos to the boys. Gallant in defeat. They tried but obviously was not enough. That said, I know Nigerians like to win and evidently, I make bold to say all our disjointed play is probably a plan of Rohr so that our opponents scouts dont figure him out as per his tactics. However, I av got news for him. They already did!!!
Whenever we have ighalo upfront, they already know its long balls time. They already also know that 3-5-2 is the only formation we excel at. As much as he tries to hide it, I am sorry to say that effort is a bit lame!

I dont know what the plan is but if this lone man upfront happens to be Ighalo @ the world cup, then lets hope we get to score. All the talk of they didnt feed Ighalo, like say na food .....Hmm its obvious to the blind that the long balls get cut down way before they get to Ighalo. Correct me if I am wrong but isnt Ighalo short? Why the long ball method? Why not incorporate him into the winning formula? And if Rohr really desires to win, then shouldnt he have played the right person with the right height in front?

I have no business discussing players' performance here. RATHER, i would discuss tactics and strategies employed in prosecuting the match. Why? Cos these are the same players that got us qualified. So what on earth is going on?
Let us question Rohr.... Does he wanna win.... or he wants to make excuses? Or does he wanna experiment till he gets it right? Cos frankly, the only time we have ever played good is when we switch tactics and thats probably after we been hit like 2 goals in the first half.

Food for thought.....

Now we really need to work on our start, and our set piece defending. They're both too poor. The second half displays will only take us so far.
Also playing three at the back seems to be the perfect fit for this, and I think Victor Moses has gotten a Sense of invincible untouchability that makes him play poo at times.
We can still do this, but our team is still average.
All the same, Fly, Super Eagles!!!!!

I dunno. Playing Mikel deep probably won't solve all the problem but we definitely need to try something new. Whatever we're doing right now is definitely NOT working. This team isn't playing as a cohesive team yet so, like Nigeria, this team needs a total restructuring.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting us to trash Czech as many folks here did but I had expected us to play well. I knew it was gonna be a tight game because the Czech would be very organized but I expected some improvement in our game compared to last Saturday but I am not sure I saw any improvements today. I am yet to see the free flowing football we all are waiting for.

But something tells me that this might be a strategy sha, if you know what I mean grin Haha!! Maybe Rohr probably doesn't wanna show his hands yet .... to confuse our opponents grin grin

O pari

Martz101:

few weeks ago, everyone said mikel is the only AM in our team and we just need another just incase his injured, now let's push him back

Sir, against Croatia we will chase the game, playing mikel and Ndidi deep won't be nice.

Ndidi and another DM behind mikel...mikel will end up coming deep to help. Rakitic,Modric, kovacic and co are handfull in that the midfield.

Our problem is not the players or formation, our problem is in the players head, they just need to be psych up.

we go do well for Russia
