hello guys.

so I am trying to prepare a budget for new york delivery and I need some input from u guys.

so far I have been able to get costs from wyckoff which covers hosp, physician, epidural and pediatrician (9,500 for natural). distance from hosts' is just 45 mins which I presume isnt bad. i have flight ticket cost and also costs for visa on arrival ($190) from my research so far. so I am now trying to determine costs for birth certf (?), USA passport (is this 165 regardless of state?), pediatrician post delivery (), infant ticket on Emirates (), additional lab tests (awaiting hosp response on if my test results will be accepted from Nig and cost implication for any additional tests)..

anything I missed out besides living expenses, transportation and baby shopping?

does anyone know if Emirate has issues flying at 34 weeks? on their site it only talks about getting a medical cerf8 but how about in practice, what really occurs? also the ease of attaching an infant ticket to one's ticket.

POE issues (if any) upon laying over in Dubai as well.

Any one that can assist in helping me populate my budget will really be appreciated please.

In the spirit of giving back.
Had my baby girl at Henricho doctor’s hospital n used Dr W.F
Presented at the emergency after my EDD wen I started contracting but after bin observed for about 6-8hours was told to go back home to avoid accumulating bill since i wasn’t dilating but after about 24hours I had my baby.

Was discharged 2days after delivery
Hospital fee
Mother $2100
Baby $275
Got my zero bal reciept bfor i left the hospital.
Emergency fee $1471
Came in after about a week of discharge, called the financial counsellor and it was further discounted to $176.52
I made sure it was a discount n not Medicaid or any form of insurance.

Doctor fee-$850
My naija medical investigation report were approved
First doctor appt fee -$120 den subsequent visit $30
Did about 2 investigations approx $150
Also paid an additional $100 for the emergency

Peadiatrican fee 1059$ was given 25% ($794)discount which was to be paid within 30 days.
Epidural fee $6500 called n was also discounted to $1450
Hearing test cancelled.
Paid all fee over the phone n got zero bal receipts in d mail.
Follow up peadiatrician $250 for 2 visits at Gaithersburg MD

SSN came in almost a month after delivery
The lady at vital statistics refused to collect my money order for BC at d hospital.
She told me to call after 4 weeks to know if it’s has bin processed n den go pick it up at DMV while I drop d money order.
After several calls was told it wasn’t processed because d money order was not dropped n I was advised to send in a new application which I did n got my LO’s BC in less than 2 weeks

US passport application $175
I was told to come pick it up nxt day but I left it til d day I went for naija passport interview.
Naija passport $77
For pick up June 26 but showed the person in charge my flight itinerary n was told to come after 2 days.

Accommodation: My sis made herself available for me during my appt days.
About 3hours drive from MD to Richmond.

Bought my LO’s ticket $102 (Turkish Airline)at the airport
On board bassinet was provided.
Had 23hrs layover at Istanbul , was able to pay for my LO’s e-visa online using my Skye bank dom acct card bfor departure but I did mine at d self hlp desk paid with my GTB naira master card.
checked in to the hotel n had complimentary breakfast.

During this missionary journey DH went for his visa interview twice, he was refused the first time, reapplied n got interviewed after I delivered n was approved.

Everythng I learnt was from dis forum.
Thank you all.....

Book an appointment around DW due date. Eh if your wife is due today add an additional week. Once that is sorted. Then you have to wait for delivery there's no two way about it. If DW is doing CS and you're sure that will also guide you on the date to choose.

Brandagencies:
Hello everyone, I am in Chicago now and I MUST give back. It was a horrible experience but I got in.
I took the BA flight and arrived Chicago for 11;30.
CBP- good morning how are u and why are u here?
Me: good morning , vacation and to birth my baby.
CBP: Stands up to meet another officer, comes aback and says this way ma( secondary things☹️)
After sitting a while a middle aged woman calls me
CBP 2: madam, can I have confirmation that the hospital has accepted to treat u?
Me: stroger doesn’t give correspondence but here is the medical number opened for me it has my dates and my first appointment
CBP: that is not my job. What u have her is crap.
Me: Crap ke? Call first na!!( this point, I was already tired from the long journey)
CBP2: how much do u have
Me: 6900 in cash and 7000 In my wells card
CBP2: Go sit down, I’ll call u later.
Approximately 15mins after, she calls me in with a superior.
CBP: madam, these information u provided are not valid , we are sending u home.
Me: Home? Why? I can pay for these things( I begin analyse bla bla)
CBP: let me have ur phone and it’s password, please sit down.
Another 30mins after
CBP: you read nairaland?
Me: Yes
CBP: that nairaland devices u all, u should ask the us govt ur questions not a bunch of guessers
Me: I did contact the govt on a change of intent.
CBP: well, ure only allowed to birth here if Baby is high risk and ur doctor in Nigeria confirms it and u have an acceptance from a doctor here. You Nigerians just disgust me, coming here to quote what laws u don’t make. You are a burden to our govt. you just want to show off that ur baby has a passport:
Me: trying to defend myself
CBP: shut Up.
At this time, they had gone through all my phone emails and WhatsApp messages. Nothing to mail me with.
She comes back to ask for my contacts number and proceeds to call her. Requesting that my host sends me back because 6400 is not a reasonable fee to pay and I cannot afford it. My host insists that was the self pay package and she would use her insurance to cover if there are emergencies.
Me: very worried, already seeing them process travel docs for other pregnant women who have been turned back, some since yesterday. I had already started crying.
CBP : so madam, u will be going back home let me get approval from my superior.
10 mins later, please go get ur bags we need to check.
Me: with my big belle I run go carry luggage( I had just a cabin size box and a well wrapped ghana must go
CBP: all these clothes are too much ( biko which clothes)
Senior CBP patapata: madam, when was ur visa issued
Me: 2016
SCBP: it wasn’t given to birth
Me: yes, it was for a conference which I attended and I was not pregnant and then.
SCBP: ok ma, I will allow u into the USA but please show receipts on ur way out( she had a passport to junior CBP
Junior CBP: collects my passport and arrogantly stamps me in for 10weeks. Saying if I present a receipt less than 20k dollars on my way out, no visa will be resissued
Me: thank u ma.
CBP: Now very Angry, don’t thank me, looking at u disgusts me, just leave my sight before I puke.
Me: quickly carries my bag.
Moral :
1. It is now illegal to birth in USA if the birth can be handled in Nigeria( they showed me proof of that o)
2. Abort mission if ure using H Stroger.
3. Make sure u tell everyone u chat with that ure coming back
4. Hold cash of all the money u need.
5. Stay far from Ohare.

This is where I drop my pen.

Whoa, very traumatic experience. It is well with you, make sure you rest adequately. This is way too much for a pregnant woman to go through. All the best

ladeonas:
I am Here to thank God Almighty:

Firstly for seeing me through my baby delivery days. Yes this is my second delivery and last one. The first was a Boy virginal and the second are triplets(2boys & a Girl)

The first time was a smooth sail. I did not realize how merciful God can be. Everything was already sorted by my Husband and uncle in the states.

For the triplets it was a drop-box also easy, however the coming back and settling the bills was a mountain I cant believe I scaled. Please Praise the Lord with me d 3 babies came out Via CS healthy NO incubator bill($1,500/night/baby).

Paid $320 for 2 of my babies and I found out that the 3rd baby would have to buy a specialized car seat and pay almost $2,000 for a one-way trip. Praise the Lord again for me ooo. I found a distant uncle coming to Naijs for a month leaving on the same day we were leaving. That how we paid only $220, can u imagine cheaper than the 2 going with us.

POE- The CBP officer asked us how long we were here for,(I and DH came in on the different days however we had same experience) DH said he will be around for 2 months and I will be around for 4months plus.

CBP asked no question about payment or all, just sent us to Agric section, we came in via LAX around 2pm with Virgin Airlines. He stamped us in.

The black American CBP officer in Agric was very friendly

I had my babies at Methodist Mansfield Medical centre.
My bill was:

Doctor c-section - $3,200 ( Includes ante-natal, all lab test and ultrasound)

Anesthesia - $1,270

Hospital- $8,000 (included Hearing Test)

Lab done at the hospital for me and babies, Total was $320

Pediatrician – sent $3,200 ( 3 days hospital visit) – still negoiating

Paid $320 to my pediatrician for 2weeks newborn screening (Not mandatory)

Circumcision – done in Niaja

Did visa on arrival paid $570.

Thank God for His infinite mercies, mother, father and babies are doing well and are back home. It is all by the grace of God.

Big hearty triple congratulations, bless the name of the Lord.

I used Emirate last year at 34 weeks and will use them to new York next month, they accept only a doctors fit to fly and you must have copies because you will keep presenting it at every stop.
When coming back the infant ticket is about 160 dollars or less, cant remember and you will be given a baby bassinet.

If you mean the poe at Dubai incase you are getting a hotel, I think emirate covers the visa fee into Dubai. I always got complimentary hotel accommodation on my return leg.

Hello house,
I have been a silent follower of this thread and I want to appreciate everyone that has contributed to this thread one way or the other.

I joined today officially to be able to give back to the community.
I went for my visa interview today and God favored me, I was granted. This is also a testimony as all the people before me the VO had attended to were all denied.

Questions the VO asked:
Why are you going to the US?
Where in the US are you going to?
Who would you be staying with?
Have I travelled out of Nigeria before? Countries and frequency
Asked where I work?, how long I have been working there
Asked if I will be travelling alone.
Asked where my husband works and what he does for the firm.
Why do you want to give birth in the US? Based on the earlier response I had provided.
Note: the VO kept giving me reasons why the US was not the best place to have your kids, that there are better countries.
Me: I made him know I totally understand that but compared to Nigeria...it is a better option and that is where I have relatives to take care of me.
Asked to see my doctor’s correspondence.
Asked to see my budget sheet
Asked to see my bank statements...presented my husband and I’s bank statement
Asked if I have gotten my ticket for the trip?
Asked when the baby is due to arrive and when I intend travelling.

After all of this drill...all I heard was your visa has been granted. Pick up in two days.

DOCUMENTS I EQUIPPED MYSELF WITH:
International passports
Passport photograph
Bank statements(hubby and I)
Letter of employments for hubby and I
Payslips for hubby and I
Consent letter from hubby
Letter of invite from host
Letter of intro from my company
Appointment letter from Doc
Hospital pay package
Budget sheet
Marriage certificate and wedding pictures

This is the reason why I have scanned copies of all my passports and visas( the day I get them ) saved in my email.
If the person has a copy it is advisable s/he goes with it and a copy of police extract or report

Please house someone who have had travel experience to 3 different countries. But lost his passport, when asked should he day yes he has travelled before even when there is no passport to prove it. Or he should say no.

Hello house,
I’m new here a friend sent this link cos of the confused state I’ve been in. Tried reading up but I ll just rather ask for your opinion on my issue. I got a tourist visa in 2016, was about 2 months pregnant then but I wasn’t even asked if pregnant, neither did I declare it. I was to use it for a conference which I attended in December that year and came back. A month after, I travelled back to have my baby. A year after I travelled on vacation, now my visa would expire in Sept and I’m expecting the second baby. Do I go ahead to do a drop box to renew my tourist visa or do I apply for a medical visa? What are my chances?

It depends on your due date. At the poe, they will stamp you in 6 months regardless if your visa will expire in few months.

What are my chances?[/quote

Expiration date is very far from your January EDD, so anyhow, you'd have to renew unless you wanna go sit in the US for 3 months before delivery.

If you've got enough cash, you may consider using the visa one more time before it expires.

Otherwise, just renew and if it's via drop box, brace up for a follow up interview if you are called in for additional explanation.

All the best.

Good day everyone, please who has used Emirates recently from abuja. Did u present ur doctor's fit to fly or one from port health.
I learnt from this thread that emirates only takes doctors fit to fly and you should make a lot of copies since you’ll be asked to present it at almost every check point. I hope you scaled through that successfully
