Hi friends I just finished serving,I managed to save up to #100,000 during my service year, and as the job is not forth coming I engaged my self in poultry farming.


Below are my expenses and achievements so far..
Feeders 5 piece x #400 each = #2000
Drinkers 5 piece x 350 each = #1750
Feeds (for now) 5 bags x 3700each =#18,500
Vaccines for now =#2000
Birds(Broilers) 2 weeks old = 400x 100 =#40,000

Total expenses so far: = #64,250

NB: I built the Birds Houses my self with some woods given to me by a friend working on a site.

Next phase of the poultry house

Completion of poultry house + buying of Feeds + feeders+ drinkers

These birds are two weeks 3 days, and eating like glutton.

If you are carrying out feasibility studies already this is the right place to be because I will be posting any occurrence on the course of training my birds.....


Your advice's and opinions are welcome.

Wondering why you decided to suspend the floor of the pen? unless you plan to use underneath.
You could have saved on cost of labour( even if you constructed it yourself) and periodic cleaning would be easier.
Finally I don't know your location but with only the side covered with net, your birds may experience heat stroke during the dry & hot season.
Wishing you all the best and try to save on feeding buy buying quality feed and don't starve/manage the birds.

I suspended the floor because I might use the beneath for something else later on....

Also I don't find it difficult cleaning bird poo,, its what av decided to do so I see no stress in it.

Finally, I think am even afraid of the cold over here this days... Those two openings you see there are as perfect as I could have wished for... Between the woods there are spaces for good ventilation..... An if you all must know Sylvafoods Nigeria Ltd is the brand.. We are located at Lugbe, Abuja

For now it's still 100/100 birds, thanks to God almighty.

Guy ,,you have started well ...the Lord will crown your effort....my own contribution is that ,,can't you suspend the drinkers because the chicks may get the water dirty quickly which may be dangerous to their health..weldone..

Good initiative all jobless lazy youths shld come and learn here

nice job u doing buh d housing issue should b addressed bcus it myt b favorable now and worst as d birds grow so I will advice u make more space for proper ventilation..u will just cover it up wen is cold and open it wen is hot...heat stress can kill all ur bird at once...thank u

Just place balanced block on the floor and then place the drinks on it.

Great start! Let me chip in some lines of advice,good to know you started with what you have. On your cage construction,if you don't make an adjustment,it might favour you now,and keep you in pains later,the best thing to do now is after the this batch remove the wood in front and use net for it,you can buy already sewn cement bag,or ask your friend to help you with some,then use it and cover the net if there is cold,which you can also remove during hot weather.
Secondly get more feeders and drinkers,reason; let the birds have access to food and water at the same it time,in return it will increase their uniform growth.
Thirdly always clean your pen twice a week, to avoid ammonia build up and do not allow water to pour on the floor. You can also raise their feeders and drinkers up from the ground . "See you at the top,because below is too crowded"

Am also planning of something like this but am staying with a day old he problem that is boarding my mind now us this:
1) where will I get the a day old from apart from Ibadan.
2) how will I build up a self made brooder for them.
3) what type of feed will I start with for them.
4) which vaccination is good for a start and their names.
5) within vital feed and top feed which one is more ok

We can supply you quality day old w chicks, with a vaccination chart,delivery nation wide. You will start with super starter,then starter and finally finisher. All feeds are ok

Jjbest are you sure ,, I just made a little research and found out that broilers actually need growers too.

Sir,broilers are raised for for 6 weeks,at worst 8 weeks,before processing it anything longer than that,then you are eating into your profit,that is if you selling to processors,but if you are targeting christmas sells or festive periods,then you can keep for longer time,you have the time to give growers etc.

At 3 weeks old today,, I have no equipment to check weight of birds for now, but from this photos what can you say peeps....
