I noticed the symptoms of Vitiligo on my lips around August last year..At first it was just a small patch but subsequently it began to spread to other parts of my lip and also outside the lower lip.

I get questions everyday asking me why my lips is like that... Some assume I got burnt by acid or fire... I'm a very confident guy so I don't really allow the insults and tantrums get to me..at least I try to hide it as much as I can.. But of recent it is becoming too much and I've told myself that if the spreading continues I would have no other option than to end my life because I cannot imagine living a life of stigma, pity and neglect.. I really can't

I have met severally with dermatologists and have bought several creams and drugs but all to no avail.. The spreading did not still stop.. Not to talk of repigmenting.

This has affected my social life in many ways, I can't boldly walk up to strangers anymore because I always have this feeling that they are looking at my lips.. I no longer have female friends and I'm always withdrawn inside my shell because of it... My self esteem is down to zero. The mere thought that I will live with this forever and it will never stop spreading has made me suicidal.

I got a camouflage tattoo but it wasn't effective upon all the pain I passed through.. Now the substance I use to cope with it is hair dye which I apply before going for my law classes in the morning ... I still wonder how I will be able to practice law with this kind of lips.

Please nairalanders help me with any advice that might be helpful to save a brother.

..stop kissing any lips you won't hear ...check your family lineage if anyone has it..then start from there

you should be used to this question by now, are you not far better than the dumb and those who don't have arms, legs, eyes and those who are on life support, if you like don't focus on your Law school and leave your lips. Its is the quality of your intelligence that will matter in your Law practice

OP leave your lips and focus on your career. the appearance of your lips won't matter in the long run, don't kill yourself while you are blessed with the chance to live

no one has it in my family.. In fact I didn't believe it at first because I thought it was a minor discolouration that will clear off after a while but instead it keeps spreading

I want to believe u've created a thread about this many times ago, but it hasn't spread like ds then.

Bros, brace up for the future, it has no cure and it keeps spreading. Learn how to live with it, and encourage urself to live with it. with time u will overcome d fear.

Anyways, if you think ending your life because of this condition is fair, pls do it urgently but before you do, try and visit a Burns & Plastic Ward in any Teaching Hospital closest to you. I'm sure you will see pxts battling for their lives praying against death regardless of their skin distortion coz there is whole lot to live for.

Maybe you ate the wrong congo meat and now feels terrible coz no vendor is willing to quench your hunger.

Its better you cut off your preek than kill yourself coz I know its your preek that is sending signals of suicide to your brain right now.

Okay first u were very ignorant of not seeing a qualified doctor to treat....
Now my advice to you is to go to a hospital immediately to seek for treatment, because this disease has no cure, atleast scientifically I don't know about herbs though, but early diagnosis can be managed and skin loss restored but like I said it can't be totally cured..basically vitiligo is as a result of low melanin in the body, so taking drugs that enhances the reformation of melanin helps a lot....these are three ways of treating such a disease
1. Therapy
2. Surgery
3. Medication

No need to think of suicide, you are well above millions in this country if u come to think of it

the most effective way about this vitiligo stuff is to be confident of yourself and accept it, although it wont be easy receiving different opinion from people about you but still it dosen't matter

There is nothing you can do just accept it. Perhaps nothing consign your lips with your profession.

but the lips is having a negative psychological impact on my social life...from what I read online it would continue spreading...it is definitely going to affect my legal career. Imagine I am handling a case in court and the judge and jury are busy focusing on my Vitiligo lips... Who would want to employ me with my kind of lips

Thr is no cure for vetiligo. Being an autoimmune condition, the only remedy is certain immune suppressant to slow its progression. Meet an expert for counselling. Its not really harmful.

You wan die because you get vetiligo for just lips ... Some people them born them with no mouth or eyes

I don't know if you've watched the movie Sarafina, but the girl who played the role of Sarafina is now all grown & suffers from vitiligo too. Well, she seems to be taking it with dignity. Look on the bright side, at least it's not deadly. You can still live a normal life. The lady is still acting, which tells me that you probably see it as less of an issue, the longer you live with it.
