The core reason is lack of knowledge. The continent and it's inhabitants are not as conscious as a thriving subterranean ants empire. It is a weird thing to say,but it's true.

The main reason why we are poor is our greed and wickedness...and the witches in our various villages are also not helping

As a Nigerian, don’t let Nigeria stand in your way of finding your true country.

Go get that VISA.

What have witches got to do with our laziness and bad choices?
And you think that those in the other countries will assimilate you without paying your dues for the development that they and their ancestors did and continue to do?
Blacks will remain the wretched of the earth for as long as we want to chop the work of others for free.

Decisions And Privileges make The Difference!

Are privileges not built over time by decisions made that develop into habits?

ooohh no....not again....

op,this your writeup is sooo wrong for many reason...

you are assuming that cost of living is more lower in nigeria, whats not realy true....i own a 3bedroom apartment in germany that i collect rent monthly, thats like 2000 euros monthly....

i pay nearly 2000euros and collect rent of 2200...thats a profit of 200euro monthly as pocket money for me...

dont think on how much you can save, think on how much you can invest that will in turn bring you profit...

i know some igbos in europe that only invest, they own small restaurants and dont sabi saving....let the money work for you...

its yout mindset that is keeping you poor...

I really can't disagree with any of the 5 points made by the author of this write-up but to be honest some people come to these same realizations and are trying to deviate from our so called 'African mentality' and yet not achieving pleasant results

YES, However, one Of The Privilege Is That A child has No Choice of Society where To Be Born. And the Fact Is That the Type of People in our Environment, their Culture, belief System, direct And Indirect Pressures go along to affect Our Thoughts and Decisions.
A complete English Man Born And Brought Up in a remote village within Africa will Hardly Form Those Decisions You Are Talking About because he Will Be influenced by what Is Happening Around Him.

lazy excuse...their were many rich black people even before colonization....

many blacks called moors today partook in the slave trade and became rich....blacks had slaves in america back then....

its doesnt matter today no more whos is right or wrong....

just undestand this plain fact....: whites are not going to dash you anything out of guilt of the past.....

it is even rumourd that george washinton was black or a mullato....or something like barack obama...it is rumoured that barack obama is related to george washinton....

The main thing is consumption. They are in constant competition to see who spends the most. And he who spends the most is deemed the wealthiest. Thus you have folks who flaunt to impress thereby wasting money on wants instead of needs. It is a race problem because blacks wherever they are remain consumers and not producers. The saddest part is that their consumption is centered on depreciable items like cars, private residences, shoes, clothes. Any place there is money to be wasted, look around you.

You see, modernity was thrust upon us. We did not prepare for it, so we're finding it hard to adjust.

At heart and in our mentality we're not culturally different from people who lived in 1905 in Africa. Forget churches, cars, cell phones, flashy cars and apparently modern way we seem to live.

In the past a man with many wives and kids and therefore able to have a large farm was a provider for many. In-laws, cousins, uncles, aunts and others would come to his barn to carry loads of yam. To dig up cocoa yam and cassava, pluck pepper, harvest rice and beans and such and carry home.

We were told a story as kids: an elderly woman went to collect free yam tubers from his junior brother's VERY large yam barn in his farm. The brother asked her to pick & choose which rows of yam she wanted and she picked the best & biggest tubers. But on the floor of the barn were tiny broken pieces of yam. The lady wanted to have those broken pieces but too shy too ask. The brother couldn't have known that someone who collected the best yams would still covet tony broken pieces on the floor. She left the farm inwardly furious for not being offered those tiny pieces of yam. For that reason she used her witchcraft to kill her generous junior brother. She later confessed what she did. Morale is you can do your best for them but the little seemingly irrelevant stuff you didn't do is enough to turn them against you.

Farm produce were not really sold but stored to survive through the year.

So once one family member rises up financially a little bit, he comes the Red Cross, UNHCR & UNICEF of the entire extended family.

Many will now rely on hand-outs from him. Many will call him stingy & some will even try diabolical/juju things against him for alleged neglect of their financial needs.

Many relatives who cou;d have gone out to hustle, create wealth and be independent now all sit idle. This creates massive poverty all round.

Sad thing is should the worst happen to the "one-man" charity organisation, his nuclear family suffers the most. Most would would assume he left truckloads of money behind. To the point that his widow many never have peace because of his family.

Very sad situation.

Spot on! !

Black people are not as talented as messi and ronaldo
BECAUSE
We do not take talent development seriously
We do not develop the talent of our children and youths
If messi and ronaldo were born in Africa, their potential will be limited
It is a serious mistake on the part of Africans.
Mark Zuckerberg the founder of facebook was taught programming when he was less than 10 years old
and Messi was taken to barcelona at age 13.
It is a serious mistake we Africans make

A bunch of useless points. The main reason Africans are poor is colonialism, slave trade, greed of our leaders and poor leadership. Another reason is poor ethic and poor reward system in our society. All the other reasons the OP has listed are related to this.

Africa and Africans was not originally designed to be poor.
Africa poverty line began when we lost our culture and everything about our traditional belief.
African should have wake up the way that Japanese and many other Asian nation did.
Instead, Africans allowed themselves to be programmed according to the will of the European conquerors.
The results of what we are seeing today.

Speak for yourself, is Messi or Ronaldo more talented than Okocha. Speed, skills, strength, shot power, technique.... Just what are you talking about? Next time do well to restrict the biological thing to your family and not blacks generally...besides, it's clear you did not understand the message.

We don't promote and support home grown technology. Sometimes, one wonders if Africa would have embraced Facebook, Twitter if they were built by Africans.

We built an App to distribute Study Materials, which includes Job test questions and Professional exams past questions and answers. It's called Q and A App. Download Q and A App from Google Playstore.

Well, hopefully.

First step is to have limited number of kids. 1-4 max. So that we can train them and equip them better for life.

We will also have less poor people as jobs will go round better.

The more self-sufficient people are, the less burden on others.

Family planning, personal independence, financial education & investment/Wealth Creation should be taught from around primary 3 in schools. And drummed into brains as early as possible.

You got that right Area fada

this your moniker tho grin

You were colonised because you are WEAK

The world is not kind to the weak, and the weak gets crushed

Colonialism is over and other countries who were colonised have made giant strides, while lazy Africa is still behind

Who will you blame for that

The Europeans have studied Africans for centuries, and they have known that our elite are greedy and stupid (you need to read some of the notes they were sending back to the foreign office in London from their colonial outposts in Africa)

So they use that against you

The millennial Africans being exposed and all have the chance to redeem this continent, but the generations before then are stifling them with their foolishness
