All through the bible no where was Mary called the mother of God if it was acceptable why didn't the bible call David the father of God since Jesus was also called the son of David? rather even David himself  called Jesus Lord luke11:43,matthew 22:41,    Catholics attribute too much praise and worship to Mary this is unbiblical Jesus rebuked and discouraged such idea when he was on earth  Luke8:21,Luke2:48 and Luke27:28

Having said that, the catholic that I am, much as I hate to admit it, believes you right and straight on point. We catholics, just like every other religion that existed at that time needed a goddess figure to cajole and convince the pagans into conversion, hence they began to venerate Mary as the mother of God and gave her the "ever virgin" status. This doctrine doesn't sit well with the rest of Christianity. I've been an altar server for years but every time I knelt or bowed to a statue or crucifix during mass something in me kept telling me this wasn't right and goes against Exodus 20:2 and Deuteronomy 5:6. There's no use arguing with anybody all in the hopes of convincing yourself that you are "honouring" and not worshiping a graven image made of human hands when God had pointed out explicitly how jealous he is when it comes to issues like this (Exodus 20v4&5) (deutronomy 5verses8&9). Its totally wrong and contradicts the scriptures. I remain a catholic only because most churches out there have their own share of polluted doctrines and beliefs. A world going to hell in a handbag. We living by Gods grace and its he alone who sees every man's heart, judges his true intentions and rewards his deeds(Galatians 6v7)

if Jesus is God and Mary gave birth to Jesus, then Mary gave birth to God. simple as ABC.

that Mary gave birth to Jesus does not in any way make Mary greater than Jesus. it does not mean Jesus had a beginning as he always existed even before the formation of Mary.

Mary giving birth to Jesus is just like her being a door for Jesus. Jesus did not have a beginning, yet he passed through Mary, he was given birth to by Mary. he decided to be born of a woman. God decided to make himself flesh and dwell among us. to make himself flesh, God decided to be born of a woman. Mary a created being was chosen by God a spirit to give birth to him when he manifested himself as a man.
