AreaFada2:Stop distorting history to make it look like what ghana did was wrong. If you have the information of how Ghana was at the time, and what the Nigerians were up to you wouldn`t be here saying this today The ACO was the best thing that ever happened to Ghana .Ghanaian will be grateful to Dr busia. . Firstly, you made it sound like Busia just got up one early morning and told the Nigerians to leave Ghana. Ghana was seriously starving then and that was not the only option then.ghana was not the only country that adopt it this style then.check history That wasn`t the case. Enough time was given for them to leave and those who thought the government was joking were the people who were forced out after the deadline. The government put in place logistics to ensure the safety and comfort of these people. Military personnels from 37 Military Hospital and other units were ready and attending to the sick, children taken care of,pregnant women giving birth were all looked after and many more. Aflao border became a tent city housing thousands of them and serves as a feeding centre before crossing the border to Lome-Togo. Ghana spent lot of money in carrying out this exercise. Mind you, my grandad a Nigeria got a juicy job with ghana government then. He himself use his position to safe and keeps lot of Nigerians at his own private home in tema. He use to say it was like hotel Rwanda. |

vaxx: Nigeria housed South Africans during Apartheid, housed Liberians and Sierra Leoneans. During Ghana Must Go I had legally resident Ghanians in my neighbourhood & nearby schools. Teachers & civil servants and labourers. What is big deal about your grand dad and govt job in Ghana? All legal residents remained behind in 9ja. Maybe you were told. I witnessed it. 6 Likes |

Na everybody dey hate Nigeria. Mscheew. All these lies u tell ur selves. The truth is dt there are too many Igbo sellers in their markets. With their oligopolistic collusion, arrogance and cunningness, they keep rubbing the locales the wrong way. It's happened in The Gambia too. Those ones outrightly asked dt Nigerian foreigners be banned from their markets. If ur not providing millions in investments as a foreigner to a country's economy then ur just a parasite taking away market share from the countries poor people who trade in these markets. The lower class, in any developing country, shouldn't be competing wt foreigners. Dts bad economic policy. 3 Likes |

vaxx:I mean all the legally resident Ghanaians in civil service and even labourers remained in 9ja. My uncle was a top military officer at the time. He had a a very big farm. Most staff there were Ghanaians. Approaching 80 to 100. I also had both male and female Ghanaian teachers at school. All remained in 9ja. People easily forget it was about illegal immigration that affected many other Africans. The sheer number of Ghanaians in Nigeria made it look like Ghana affair only. Indian and Pakistani teachers and doctors were even affected beginning from that period. Many maths and science teachers were Asians back then in my area. Let me tell you too: criminal activities of a few Ghanaians also brought bias against them. Some of them who were maiguard, driver or househelp will disappear with master's cars and empty entire house of anything movable while employer was at work. Some operated in Lagos and moved on to PH or another town. Those who could speak Yoruba or Igbo or Hausa and or any another 9ja language reasonably well even had it easier to blend in another town. Not fair to tar all with a bad brush but we 9ja are now used to being vilified by other people because of the bad deeds of a few among us. I was not told. I saw it. FG mismanaged the whole Ghana must go thing in a typical military jackboot fashion. They could have set up centres across the land to vet foreigners who lived illegally. Those with good skills or children but were illegal could have been granted permit to stay. Nigeria could have announced that 50,000 or whatever number allowed to stay have been granted stay. Many stayed anyway or returned by end of 1985. 3 Likes |

The truth is everyone must obey the laws of their host country. If Ghana by law has reserved the retail sector of the economy to indigenes then it has to be enforced by law likewise if its the same in Nigeria i would wholeheartedly support stopping Ghanaians there from operating in as much as i dont condone physical attacks by indigenes. Here is the case where Nigerians operating illegally in the retail sector are asked to desist from their actions, rather than comply with the law they will rather prefer disrespect the law of the land. Ask yourself whether if it where to be Russia, China etc they would behave in that fashion. I dont know why most Nigerians insist on on transporting their rudeness and disrespect to other countries where simple systems work and then act suprised when they fall foul of the law. Just look at them on this thread speaking all manner of uncouth words and insults to flame their ego and pride. The truth is that we Ghanaians dont hate anyone, we only hate those who dont respect the law and culture of the land. Anyways i caution all Ghanaians to maintain the peace and leave the enforcement of the law to the police. Likewise Nigerians living in Ghana, before you undertake any activity or even speak think, is this thing im doing currently legal, am i documented to stay in my host country, will my actions negatively impact the societal view of Nigerians and are my interactions depicting the same manner of respect i have for my elders at home. Thank you, 3 Likes |
