senseless post, who's talking about the population of Ghana to Nigerians. Majority of Ghanaians are just puff puff seller, cobblers and gatemen some are even doing prostitution. This is Ecowas, everyone can do business if your country is part of the organization

At least you admit that Ghanaians in Nigeria have jobs. Nigerians over here are nusiance. Why do you think they don't like you guy's? You are loud, arrogant, rude, dirty... Gosh! I CAN'T tell you how many landlord in Ghana won't allow Nigerians to rent their house because of how they abused the opportunity they were given, the debts they owe, the damage to properties they cost. I mean all the legally resident Ghanaians in civil service and even labourers remained in 9ja. My uncle was a top military officer at the time. He had a a very big farm. Most staff there were Ghanaians. Approaching 80 to 100. I also had both male and female Ghanaian teachers at school. All remained in 9ja.

People easily forget it was about illegal immigration that affected many other Africans. The sheer number of Ghanaians in Nigeria made it look like Ghana affair only.

Indian and Pakistani teachers and doctors were even affected beginning from that period. Many maths and science teachers were Asians back then in my area.
Let me tell you too: criminal activities of a few Ghanaians also brought bias against them. Some of them who were maiguard, driver or househelp will disappear with master's cars and empty entire house of anything movable while employer was at work.

Some operated in Lagos and moved on to PH or another town. Those who could speak Yoruba or Igbo or Hausa and or any another 9ja language reasonably well even had it easier to blend in another town.

Not fair to tar all with a bad brush but we 9ja are now used to being vilified by other people because of the bad deeds of a few among us.
I was not told. I saw it.

FG mismanaged the whole Ghana must go thing in a typical military jackboot fashion. They could have set up centres across the land to vet foreigners who lived illegally. Those with good skills or children but were illegal could have been granted permit to stay. Nigeria could have announced that 50,000 or whatever number allowed to stay have been granted stay. Many stayed anyway or returned by end of 1985.
And likewise the aliens compline orther was to also regularize the foreigner in Ghana as at that time. Where on earth will foreigner stay without a proper documentation.

so, Busia did not expel Nigerians from Ghana but the law expelled them. They were not the only foereigners who were living and working in Ghana at the period, it was because they did not want to comply with the law that was why they left the shores. Even not all of them left as i said earlier. Many nigeria diplomat were living or those who were fortunate enough to own officials office like my grandad were left behind and likewise some Nigerians who complied with the law stayed up till today

Let me give you a hint about the story.

Busia the then president found out that Ghanaians and other people livings in the country were corrupt or living in a dishonest way because there was no identity of anyone. We were living like animals in the bush. Busia started to introduce national Id cards like the french countries surrounding Ghana. In that process he told all nationals in the country to register at their entry points so they have to go back and re-enter the country again so that their names would be registered at their entry points. Some did that but others did not. And it is those who did not that face the law wrath.not even all of them.some were illegally housed just like what my granddad did.

Can you say the same thing during shagari time and buhar/idiagbon saga. It is to be noted Ghanaians were deported from Nigeria twice while Ghana did it only once .

Lol Ghanaians hate Nigerians with passion. Don't think the tension between Ghana and Naija is "Friendly Rivalry". For us it's Friendly Rivalry cause we didn't grow up and thought to believe that Ghanaians are bad and evil, But all Ghanaian children of this generation have been brought up with hatred for anything Nigeria by their parents (Cuz of Ghana Must Go... they drove Nigerians out of Ghana in 1969-1970, we drove them outta Naija in 1983).

Stupid Ghanaians. All they do in their TV News and Tv Programms is to talk ill about Nigeria. They don't talk about the good things, only the negative things. They Gossip Naija alot and hate when we achieve something great especially on World Stages.

Their market women, office Employees always gossip. Infact if you're a Nigerian in Ghana working under someone, if u want to impress them and make them like you, just talk stupid things about Nigeria, dem go like u die i swear. In fact the more u keep on insulting Nigeria and casting it ehh.. ur double promotion dey wait for you.

They're very obsessed with Nigeria that anything trending in Naija always trends there (including Music, Movies, Dressings, Slangs & more). On a low key they admire Nigerians and love to be like us but they don't want to be Nigerians. We're more hardworking than them in their own country that's why they always feel jealous cuz we're gaining more cash than them and our business there always prosper than theirs.

Very ugly set of black charcoal people that can only draw Tatoo with white Chalk.

God Punish these Ghanaians... i dey vex say we help those their foolish local actors and actresses blow through Nollywood... Make our musicians wise up and stop allowing them to feature us in their useless songs. Them dey fam our artists cuz them need our artists to penetrate our Music Industry so dey can blow in Africa and beyond. Useless set of Human beings who like to see others Fall rather than succeed.

I pity Nigerians in Ghana... on a low-key their President want Nigerians out of the Country but they can't it now cuz they depend on Nigeria Government and Nigeria Businesses so much, Cuz if Nigeria leave, their Economy go cast. Until they find way to be able to maintain their Economy without Nigeria/Nigerians, them go begin kill Nigerians like S.A and drive them out of Ghana as a Payback to GHANA MUST GO.

Fvck Ghanaians and Ghana.

When you hear Nigerian traders, think IGBO drug dealers who use small shops to hide their criminality. I saw it in South Africa.
If they are IGBOs they will not sell simple goods when they know they can make more from drugs - send them to firing squad!

Well any country can introduce any immigration law or any law for that matter. BUT the way you implement it is more important. With or without a human face.
Your grand father was obviously educated so was able to access and weigh available information in a more balanced way. Literacy among Nigerians/Africans was still fairly low by late 1960s/70. Many Nigerians there back then would have relied more on rumours within 9ja communities.

In my family it was generally believed FG handled the matter badly.

My disappointment with Busia as Prime Minister making that decision was that he was an Oxford educated man who ought to have more carefully weighed the impact. One cannot say that of Grade II teacher Shagari or Buhari whose WAEC is still missing.

You need to consider that immigrants were also victims of internal politics of Ghana at the time. Nkrumah with his Pan-Africanism encouraged other Africans to come & enjoy the freedom of Ghana as the first to gain independence. Anti-Nkrumah forces during his govt and after his overthrow & exile were against everything he stood for. Including pan-Africanism and immigrants in Ghana.

If going out and just returning was easy Nigerians would have done so to reclaim their businesses and assets in Ghana.

Busia did not make any dent on corruption nor succeeded in organizing Ghana. Rawlings from 1979 did much of the reforms that benefited Ghana. If Busia did his govt would not have been overthrown in 1972 while he was receiving medical treatment in UK. He's remembered as a political right-winger and one of the most ardent anti-Nkrumah politicians, alongside Danquah who died in detention under Nkrumah government.

I have reviewed this topic over the past 20 years with several educated Ghanians.
