It seems you are still stuck in the 19th century when those so called prestigious courses were in vogue, today we are in 21st century where even drop outs are breaking bounds in the scheme of things. Even some of the graduates of those so called prestigious courses are working or jostling to work for the so called undermined and undervalued courses.
I for once will never make the decision on the course to study for my kids or impose it on them. My parents never did that, they cared less on the course you want to study, they just want you educated.

Education itself is a thing of the mind or individual something. It depends on how passionate one is for the course they are studying or how willing the person is ready to develop themselves in that field to excel in them.

What I know about choosing good degree program is that some are more needed to create wealth and grow the economy than others but most are useful in one way or the other.

There are many student pushed to study those courses OP listed who aren't practicing their course of study today and that is why we have a large number of ideal hands and minds.
We neeed proper guidance and counselling and not just parental pressure borne out of ego.

Some fields are more important to wealth creation and sustanance than others. The wealth 100 agriculturists will create can be managed by 6 accountants with the help of technology, so it is saddening to see any university admit 500 accounting undergraduates at once but have less than 100 headed for agric or other key science courses.

Take uniben for example, law department is so populated compared to elect and comp science. It makes Nigeria look like a criminal colony.

If the child is passionate about a particular feild, I wont stop him;
But I'd like my child to venture into IT...

To burden your child with your own ambitions is worse than child labor. Stop giving your kids dreams, let them dream. Your duty is to assist them in realizing their dreams.

Human Kinetics is more than jumpology. It encompasses a lot of fields, from research,to health to sports.
You can decide to further to PhD in Sports science, Sports management, Health Education etc. Madam, you don't know jack about these courses. Some of your sports champions you celebrate in this country studied Human kinetics, PHE, Kinesiology or whatever name you feel like giving it.
You guys have to stop this warped mentality and make your findings.
You relegate courses like psychology too and Guidance and Counselling not knowing alot of Nigerians need to be counselled and examined.
No course is useless, we've got doctors and professors in these fields too.
Start seeing things from a different angle.

Human resources mgt, supply chain mgt. Hospitality, criminology and psychology. I love these courses.
