as per the strike newspapers say 10th, i'm suspecting government will settle them before then though. . .as for the plant, a total shut down for 8days then partial shutdown and post shutdown work for 25days, the plant supplies enough gas to power 1000+MWs, govt says they have put plans in place but i'm skeptical.

they were on new nigerians, but since the market went south everyone has cooled down, samstone(the guy that liked transcorp) used to keep the place alive but since early october the place has gone dead.

@yodiyokun and tkb
pumping and wanajo are both moderators at stockmarket nigeria haven't seen all the others there but i know most people were members of that site in addition to New Nigerians.

as per the stockmart, with the reforms that are in the pipeline things should pick up, i'm talking about volume though, it'll take a while for the values of the stocks to reach those levels.

i'm trying to find out if new generation was able to meet the deadline for the NITEL meinene. . .does anyone know yet?

also, can someone explain to me why companies tend to wait for the deadline before paying? what's wrong with paying a day or two before the deadline elapses? or is it that difficult to get the money together?
Re: Welcome To My Office by Jcob(m): 5:41pm On Nov 05, 2010
It's just sad that the stock market collapsed when people like us started investing. I invested heavily in penny stocks and the value is still the same for the past two years.

@investors,

What's the best way to go about long term investment in Nigeria ?

Fixed deposit ?

Stock ?

Float a Business ?

If among the three, I would say stock. Easier to subscribe to one of the mutual funds that has a good track record, like ARM Discovery, or use a broker that's reliable. Even though the markets are in serious depression right now, with time they will pick up. Government bonds are also a safe long-term bet.
As your income improves, then you can step up by placing funds in private equity, investing directly in a business, or acquiring your own income-generating assets.
I think property is always a good bet in Nigeria, since there is never enough, especially in Lagos.

Last I heard they were seeking a 10-day extension.
That bid is a 419 bid, if you ask me.
A consortium bid more than twice the second person, and nobody thinks something is up? New Generation bid $2.5bn, and the next guys bid $950m or something like that.
Re: Welcome To My Office by debosky(m): 4:52pm On Nov 06, 2010
^^

I heard Sambo has granted a 20 day extension . . .according to them the 'delays' in the process spooked their 'investors'.

Nitel isn't worth $2.5bn at the moment and I suspect this bid will go down the drain like all the others. . . .that's what happens when you form a 'consortium' overnight with no clear strategy.

er'one knows it's going to be quite a while before NITEL can compete with anyone, i dont think any serious investor would be willing to tie down such a large amount of money for a long time. . .abi na people wey don thief our money wey wan bring am back in? cos those are the only people i can think of that would be willing to tie down large sums in naija without hope of profits in the short - medium term

@Debosky
the process was completed in February and it's in November they're asking you to pay your deposit, if na me i for don delete the files from my computer tay tay

@Jcob
Longtime. . .for me, it's stocks hands down(at least for where we're at now). . .i remember when i first started following the stockmarket, i was in SS2 and Nestle was 60naira (that was more than 10 years ago), now it's 400naira. Do the Buffet-thingy, buy in a company that'll stand the test of time. I think the term 'penny stock' was overused in naija. . .me i got out of the market fast back then o. . .boys just did not have the money to tie down. . .

@Topic
Afta almost 8 months of design, time to build, we have found out that so many things have to be "re-designed", see early warning notice flying left, right & centre,
We have been working non-stop to get the stuff up to speed and I am hoping our programme has adequate float

I seriously doubt us meeting our "drop dead" date and we got massive liquidated damages, may next year will be an interesting month to say the least,

suppose to see accountant sometime this month for VAT returns and possibly profit accrued for the year, i am soo scared the guy might say all the remaining money for bank na for "mama charlie", chai, i will just run back

Hello moderator/everyone,
I work in a Systems Integration Company
Geared towards improving the QoE for subscribers on service provider networks and also increasing the ROI for Telecoms Providers
We presently work for the biggest Telecoms Provider in Nigeria (at least that's what they call themselves) and we are looking to expand to other providers.

How can I send a private message to the moderator of this forum?

not necessarily, in nigeria 1+1 doesn't always equal two, if he can get a mortgage on a decent house and rent it out he stands an extremely high chance of owning the house after a couple of years. I know a couple of family friends that own houses(i'm talking more than 4 each) that they got that way, of course, it depends on location, tenure of the loan etc

Congrats also to cecegorz, as per the eardrum thingy, mine clears off when i pinch my nose and blow, i think that makes the pressure in your ears adjust to cabin pressure (not sure though)

Bros i did the blowing wella, it works  for me if its one way flight that i'll spend some time before boarding again, but when i have to connect flights or go back and forth within 48hrs, it really becomes difficult as the previous pressure needs some time to normalize fully before another one builds up.

Interestingly,i am billed to hit Kano ( first time ever) before the weekend, but this NLC/ FG thingy could play a role depending on how things pan out. I can't imagine being cut off from flying back to my family in no man's land if the strike hits. This one they're threatening shutting down air lines and all that.

Well, If i happen to hit town and the strike goes off, good for the boyz, i'll just hole up in one cosy hotel, sipping chilled fluids and Suya, and browsing all day till the coast clears  grin  grin  grin  grin

Guys i need ear plugs badly ooo
Imagine, i tried to buy online from Amazon, after carting, they said 'sorry, we do not currently ship to your country' see how the effects of bad boyz trickle down to every citizen.

Abeg, can anybody help me DHL  20 pairs HEAROS (heard it's the best ear plug for flying). Its marked $16, but trust me, i'll pay whatever you name. wink  wink  wink

Those earplugs are usually complementary on international flights. I seem to have misplaced most of my overnight packs sha. Sorry.

Chew gum, or drink lots of Vitamin C.
Kano . . . man, that is one of the dirtiest cities in this country. Mosquitoes and other bugs full there die.
In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I was on a plane that stopped over in Kano to drop and pick passengers. See as mosquitoes rush inside the aircraft follow us go Lagos grin

On the Amazon thing, it must be the cost of what you want to buy, not the yahoo thing. I buy stuff from Amazon using my Nigeria cards, all the time. Once the item does not have the shipping costs built in, they won't ship to Nigeria. No point using $60 to ship items worth $16.
