If you own the stock in question, your point is valid.

If I don't own a stock, I'll consider the loss/gain to be simply the price difference between the last day close and close on markdown day.

...and the reality is that even though u didn't gain from the said price differential, SOMEONE ELSE DID.
So in retrospect, the money WASN'T LOST.
...and by the way, u CAN NOT ASSUME A LOSS OVER WHAT U DONT OWN. So u can not calculate as loss, a stock u don't have a stake in.
Note that this is not an NSE thing. ...by convention, that's the practice as obtainable with every stock exchange around the globe. ...and so it's not up for any kind of debate.

I think I've explained it well enough for anyone to understand.

...the record from the market index showed that ACCESS lost ONLY 0.75k. (which excludes the dividend rate) ...and which was an 8.57% loss. ...and this HAD, WILL AND SHALL ALWAYS BE THE CASE with any and every other stock under similar circumstance.
Pls there is absolutely no point arguing over what is REAL. ...u can NOT debate over an undeniable FACT.
...u can go and run a check on the index if in doubt.
