Hello Friends and My bosses here...

This is seriously what I never espected...I have never even given a thought to failure all this while...All my struggles, sleepless nights(studying),prayers, mindset and even the very air I breathe everyday of my preparations were all channelled towards SUCCESS . Imagine,I was so convinced that I will get admission to study MEDICINE this year that I have bought my school bag and some other things.

When my JAMB results were released this year(2018),I was very happy and elated when I saw 303 as my score.I continued to study and prepare for the UI PostUTME with zest. When the results were released, I saw 73 as my PostUTME score and 74.375% as my aggregate score.I was sad and worried because my target score is not less than 90. When I remembered that UI cutoff mark for medicine last year(2017) was 71.88% , I kept my fire of hope burning...but not without serious prayers and fasting.

Now,the cutoff mark for medicine this year has been pegged at 76.5%, and as you can see, I am just like 3 marks away from the cutoff mark.Since yesterday when I saw the cutoff marks,I have not been able to sleep. It is very very painful.

But friends,I am not here to ask you to pity me...no no no....This is my 4th failure since I started to pursue MEDICINE and I have learnt to brace up and struggle harder after each failure,....No matter what people will say..... I am writing this to seek counsel and sincere directions on my next line of action because I believe that a problem shared is half solved. Now,my questions are :

1) Since my score is high enough to get another course, I am thinking of doing a COC to courses that will allow me cross to medicine in year two like biochemistry, human Nutrition and physiology....but I heard that those courses are not advertised on the COC.....Is it true ?

2) What other courses can I go for apart from the aforementioned ones ?

3) If after accepting any other course, can I stay in the university(UI) and write JAMB and PostUTME again in the same UI in 2019? .... Can I abandon my present course then and accept admission to study medicine in the same University of Ibadan?

4) If I should decide not to accept any admission UI will offer me whatsoever(because my passion is seriously tied to medicine), do you think (from experience) that I will be able to study well if I get a job and come back for jamb next year?...The job will take like 8hours of my time everyday.I cannot just stay at home studying for a whole year idle...an besides nobody is willing again to give me any money for anything until I enter school, not even for jamb....because my people have given up on me.

5) Also on the Job issue,I am planning to buy a laptop and an android phone from my savings, but I am thinking of how I can convert it into a good source of income. Please friends,I am alone in the world now... I need to survive. What genuine and profitable online business can I do in my part time to make ends meet ? ......I have heard that students can work online and earn a decent pay,but I don't know much about it.If you are into any one of them,I would like to have your contact...

Please save a soul today.!

Hmmm...

Not a UI student but was an aspirant once upon a time so lemme try to answer your questions

1. Only few courses are put forward for COC and you can hardly find those courses you listed on it. Its usually agricultural courses sometimes vertinary medicine too.

2 You mean that will enable you switch to medicine right? Am not sure, but I hear its very difficult to do without connection? I wouldn't advice it.

3. Last time I checked you can't matriculate twice in UI. So you will have to pick another school should you accept any course UI gives you.

4. It really depends on you really, some people can cope others can't. You just have to be determined to study is all. I recommend working till you get the amount you need since your family isn't helping then quit to focus 100% on your exams.

5. I don't really know much about this but be very careful so you are not duped ni.

Finally, I would like to repeat what someone above said, you are no failure from your score it is evident your capable of studying medicine. But your mistake was picking UI. It is crazily competitive. Pick a less competitive school next time and possibly one with your state of origin as a catchment area.

Make no mistake you did very well let no one tell you otherwise. But you were just up against stiff competition. Schools like UI, UNN, OAU and the likes are very competitive, search for a less competitive one say in the North as suggested above and give it your best shot. You can do it.

Good luck bro I really wish you the very best. I do hope your family reconsider and keep supporting you as I believe your a star in the making. Don't relent, don't be discouraged you will make it, just keep the faith.

This is really touchy.I remember d time u solve complicated question before the putme on ui's thread.

okay that was why u didn't post ur score on ui aspirant thread.Next time choose universities from d north forget about d issue of coping or d prestige u got to hv when u study in d south nobody is going to ask u where u graduated from. d level of ur intelligence and capability is what will determine u not d school u graduated and believe me you will be more than accepted with dis very high mark of urs in schools like udusok and Buk infact ur name will b d first on merit list

A word Is enough for d wise

pls,i need a medical student(esp in ui) to clarify me on this.what is the chance of a physiology or human nutr student with very high cgpa to be accepted into mbbs if he wish to cross in 200l.
cuz, someone said that it's somehow impossible.most esp if there were no available space in the mbbs department..and that one also need connection for it.
pls how true is it.and, i need someone to clarify and enligthen me on this...

About crossing, Yes. There are spaces available for students to cross from physiology, biochemistry and human nutrition to Medicine and Dentistry.

As it is with normal admission, there will be allocation for merit and connection.

So, assuming there are 10 spaces for crossing, they can allocate 5 to merit and 5 to man-know-man.

The competition is usually fierce and it is advisable you don't bank too much on merit because 10 students might show up with 4.00 CGPA. So what will they do?.

Do your best on your CGPA and ensure you have someone backing you.

1. About COC, most times, Courses in the college of medicine are almost filled up by merit. Thats why you might not see those courses listed there.
However, There is a chance of you being offered these courses even without doing COC. But, it is advisable you do the COC. Among the courses you'll find there, choose the one u feel okay with.
2. Most times, COC brings courses like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, some courses in Agric too.
3. You cannot matriculate in UI and apply for admission to UI again. It's either you forfeit whatever is given to you and apply again to UI next year (WHICH I WON'T ADVISE) or settle for what you're given now and prepare for next year's admission to another school... People have given suggestions on that so I won't repeat them.
4. If you can effectively manage your time and job, I don't think anything stops you from getting a job to sustain your finances for now. However, it's left to you. If the job leaves you little or no time to read, I'd suggest you don't pick it.
5. I don't have much ideas on that.. but I'm sure someone will help out.

In conclusion bro, ensure you build mental toughness. It will give you a psychological edge that will enable you to remain focused and confident in high pressure situations like this.

God bless you.

Take Heart
u stole my exact tought, our skool 'UDUS' am sure will welcom u wit both hands.
