Its just the thought that with unaccompanying spouse the score should be higher but this one wey our own no wan follow the popular theory dey make me think whether there is something we are not doing properly.

To get CLB 10 is not beans sha o.

Heyaa, and you only need about 2 marks, if only u had done unaccompanied before turning 37..

READER-ALERT: VEEERYYYY LOOONGGG EPISTLE

NOW FOR THE EPISTLE

I am sharing this long version to underscore the importance of proper research in this journey and to encourage newbies not to despair when they are referred to 1 for information.

I wrote IELTS on August 19, 2017 and results L 8.5, R 9, S 8, W 7.5 (maxed out at first attempt). I did not know the value of this result at the time because I was aiming for Australian PR and my target was minimum of all round 8. While I was weeping and lamenting my Writing score, a friend advised me to also consider migrating to Canada. I spoke to another a friend in Canada who advised me to use IQAS for my ECA because IQAS will assess my “law degree” as equivalent to Masters degree. In ignorance, I thought law degree meant law school degree. I did not know that law school transcript was not necessary for IQAS.

Rush rush in September 2017, I paid IQAS, I sent University transcript and wasted over 2 months chasing for law school transcript. IQAS sent back ECA on Dec 21, with a “disappointing” email that it does not assess vocational certificates (or something like that). I checked my ECA report for the phrase “master degree” but forwhia!? The thing no de dia. They only wrote that is it "equivalent to LLB or first professional degree … " blab la bla. I started chasing IQAS with emails insisting that they may have made a mistake, that I have been told that my degree will be equivalent to “masters”. (Gosh I was so ignorant!). IQAS sha refused to budge. And without masters, I did not even near 420 CRS.

No so I flung ECA report and IELTS results for one yeye corner since December and I started chasing post graduate admissions in Canada upanddan! (Jesus is Lord). It is not book that was hungrying me o. I was just looking for an exit strategy from Naija. That is how I wasted January –March plus plenty yeye university application fees, plus numerous transcript processing fees (for admission). I was just roaming in the wilderness while my ECA and IELTS were gathering dust where I flung them.

Na so, April land with my birthday (minus 5 points). God’s mercy found me 3 days after my birthday. My colleague, who had codedly been processing EE stumbled on one of my university applications. The bros pitied me, called me to one corner to advise me about EE instead of student visa route. My people, I started boasting o- “I sabi EE, I have done IELTS and ECA since last year but I no qualify cos my points no reach, bla bla bla”. OK na, bros calmed me down and explained the meaning of “first professional degree…” in my ECA. WHAT??!!!. ADONBLIVIT. Bros recalculated my CRS. CHINEKE! And I have been wasting time in the wilderness when I could actually be on 452 CRS?

Congratulations !
Does it mean the LLB is just enough or the Law School transcript and practising licence will be needed as well at some point?
I'm not from Nigeria, but I have an LLB from my country, unfortunately I failed one bar exam(We sit for 9 papers). Then do 6 months pupillage/articling(which I already did).
Can I go ahead and evaluate the LLB even as I wait to resit my bar, will it amount to misrepresentation ?
I have my transcript, but I'll only get a practising certificate once I resit that one paper and pass.

@Dulles25 that’s right. Just evaluate your LLB with IQAS and you are good! You don’t need your law school transcript or bar license if you choose IQAS.

You may need your law school/call to bar credentials when you are ready to practice in Canada.

Wishing you success in your bar exam!

When you apoly for EE, do the VO dig into any former application you might have made in the past to see any mismatch or discrepancy?

You are on point.
Playing with the crs calculator, it seems the advantage of going spouse unaccompanying breaks down at ages 35-37.
At age 36, your points going together and going unaccompanying are more or less the same. Though the crs calculator is giving me a 6 points drop between ages 36 and 37 and not 5.
At age 35, your points are higher unaccompanied.

My 2cents on points increase. You and your hubby have done the best you can on Ielts. Redoing ielts for that 7.0 to 7.5 in writing, I don't know, might be hard since the marking seems subjective.
If you take annual leave, do an intensive program on TEF and do the exam immediately, a mid-range score will take you over.

Update: Analysis in the highlighted is faulty. Check this for correct analysis.
ddymples:
Hello people,

I thought that if you apply as married, you have lower points than if you apply as single/hubby non-accompanying.

Oya epp me torchlit this scenario o

Married (PA), 37, Masters, IELTS - 8.5,9,7,8(LRWS)
Hubby - Masters, 7.5,8.5,7,7
CRS - 439

But if it is spouse unaccompanying, the score drops to 434. Is there something we are not getting right? pls assist.

Thank you.

Yes they do. I know a recent case of misrepresentation.

Attracts a 5 years ban too. Best to state any issue(s) you may have had in the past and hope for the best.

Thank you. I know the options available to us to increase CRS.

It was just the theory that applying with spouse unaccompanying will always have a higher score than applying as married. In this case, the theory no werk.

Apologies @ddymples my earlier calculation was awry.
Indeed, all your spouse needs to take you to 441 is 8777 LRWS. I advise he retakes the test. It is more likely he will get that than you maxing your IELTS.

I believe the older you are the more likely that applying with spouse unaccompanying will reduce your crs points.

Age really has nothing to do with it.
Let's take a 28 years old with Masters, 3 years work experience and LRWS 8777. Her spouse has a masters and LRWS 8777. Their CRS will be 472.
If she puts spouse as unaccompanying, CRS drops to 469.
Literally, two heads are better than one.

Hi, I am not sure how the LLB program in your country is structured. I know some countries have a 3yr program, some 4yrs but in Nigeria, it is 5yrs. I don't know how IQAS will evaluate LLB from your country, but my advice will be for you to submit just your LLB if your program is 4-5 years. I wish you all the best.
