Lol this is funny

Look at all the best universities in the world and tell me which are cheap

Parents save for their child universities school fees for 20 years in the USA

A typical Nigerian wants Harvard University standarded education but wants to pay less than 50k per year

If America with a revenue of over 4 trillion dollars and a population of 300m can't make education cheap.. Is it Nigeria with 200m people and earns less then 15bn dollars every year that can?

Let's be serious Jor

My idea minimum school fees should be set at 1 million
But 30% of students should be on scholarships ..churches ,Muslim groups, multi national should take care of this if the person can maintain a minimum grade or gp

In that case the poor can also go to school if they are smart enough...

Any other thing we would never achieve world class education

You tried to sound smart but you are a total slowpoke. Even though I agree that not everybody should go to study a useless degree. But you saying that university education should be pegged at ₦1m shows how stupid you are. The US you are talking about, what is the minimum wage there? Naija minimum wage for a month is what a worker on minimum wage in the US earns in four hours.
Not to mention that one can take out student loans over there. I ask again, are you sure your brain is functioning?

I am not against hiking the fees. I cant pay 500k for a 5k product. With the useless obsolete and worthless syllabus Niggerians shouldnt pay a dime as tuition fees. In fact some compensation should be paid for anyone who went through the shithole system

Its obvious that most people here don't understand the issue.

Also proposed is an Education Loan of one million naira monthly to each student.

This is fair.
You know nothing. this is Nigeria, no job, so after graduation you should start using your maybe 30k salary (if you manage to get one job) to pay debt abi?. not every student will get the loan, but why can't they use the money meant for the loan to fund the universities? why, my people this is inhumane!
The only hope for the poor kids.

Even with minimum wage at 18k? Na wa o. The same Babalakin attended a public university when our educational system was very much solid yet affordable. Now, he wants to cut off majority’s access to education with this anti-people policy. I hope they are ready to build more prisons though? There are so many leakages in this porous system yet to be blocked, yet you want to create another opportunity for rent seeking. Make the most of the “little” you have first. Some many leaders bereft of ideas.

They are proposing a loan system where student borrow to pay their fees while in school and pay back after graduation when they start earning. This arrangement will eliminate the situation where govt subsidizes poor students through school and they end up becoming prostitutes and yahoo boys with high taste but no sellable skills to satisfy their wants.

And your excellency thinks that making degrees hard will automatically generate a lot of employment? Your lordship even said that "education is not for everybody". Should we pray that your type, with this statement of yours, should become a major leader in the country? Please check your comment and rethink sir.

Still doesn't make sense. 500k * 4 - 6 years, that's 2 to 3 million naira. Now, where are the job opportunities to pay back the loan?

why not encourage industries so that there will be more jobs...you think nigeria has half the number of university graduates in developed countries...the ratio of doctors to patients in nigeria is about 1 to 2 million

That's for you to see people who wouldn't read content but will look for shortcut to show they understand what's at stake. If that education bank is implemented with the way Nigeria is going, a world of extreme anarchy is what will follow with hundreds committing suicide because of misery. Africa is yet not wise. These guys want us to copy what's obtainable in US where getting well paid job is not that difficult instead of looking inwards and solving our problems in a unique way.

What About Those That Are Poor And Love Studying??
The current problem is that those who say they are poor and love studying end up waiting on the govt after graduation and the govt is paying heavily to subsidize them through school already. If anyone is poor and love to study then that person must be studying to contribute to the workforce positively and that implies he should work and earn after graduation.
The logical thing to do for a man who plans to work with his skills is to borrow and fund his education then pay back with the proceed of his acquired skills. That's what government is proposing.

You are the dull one here. The govt has been covering this proposed 350k - 500k in subsidy and didn't stop it because the minimum wage of the labour market is low so that excuse won't move govt. The govt is saying student should take loans and repay back that loan when they start working. That isn't hard and it will help eliminate the scourge of yahoo, cultist, prostitute, and ritualist graduates who have high taste for life but have next to no skill to offer.

LIST OF MINIMUM WAGES BY COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD.

1. Nigeria - $38 (N18,000).
2. Algeria - $175 (N83,000).
3. Belgium - $1,738 (N810,000).
4. Cameroon - 36, 270CFA ($75) N38,000.
5. Chad - $120 (N60,000).
6. Denmark - $1,820 (N900,000).
7. Libya - $430 (N190,000).
8. Japan - $1000 (N450,000).
9. Cote D'ivoire -36,607CFA $72.
10. New Zealand -$3,187 (N1.4m).
11. Luxemburg - $2,500 (N1.1m).
12. Spain - $760. (N300,000).
13. Switzerland - $5,620 - N2.5m.
14. USA - $11 per hour.

Ironically, Nigeria politicians earn the highest salaries the whole world.

In Luxemburg where minimum wage is $2,500, their lawmakers are paid $7,400. In Libya where minimum wage is $430, lawmakers earn $3000.

In Nigeria where minimum wage is $38 (N18,000), lawmakers earn $65,000 (N29m).

How long will this continue

You can also compare the rate of employment of developed countries to ours.
