We started this together on this forum, and it is imperative to keep everyone posted. Thank you all for doing a wonderful job in here.

I have been admitted to ECPI University, Masters of Information Science.
I have received the e-copy of my i-20 and acceptance letter while I await the hard copy to be shipped.

Please, I need hell on how to proceed without delay; how do I go about SEVIS fee payment.
Please help with the needed next phase of action.

To you all; God bless you for being ever supportive.

Hey bro, Any form of funding available?
as it is a private university.

And is it the only one that gave you admission?

Young man, you'll need to roll up your sleeves and get to work already. Get busy with research on issues concerning you and come here for guidance and advice. This talk about your uncle said this and that makes you sound like a nonacademic student.
No pun intended!

Sincerely i don't see anything wrong with what i said but anyways i still appreciate your concern. Pardon me if i said anything irrelevant. All I'm trying to do here is learn so i don't mind being corrected if i make mistakes. Please take me as your brother and help me scale this whole process. Thanks for your understanding.

I also have a few questions.

1. I was told that i can't get admission for masters with my third class degree. Please is this true?

If this is true then how do i go about it.

I'm sorry if in anyway you felt slighted by my earlier comment. Now to answer your question, there is a place for you with any class of degree you possess. However, the school may not be top notch. A short answer to your question is NO.

To stand a chance to better ranked schools, you need to improve your profile by way of writing and acing your standardized tests, getting an excellent statement of purpose, with nice recommendation letters to complement. If you possess relevant working experience in your preferred study area, that could be an icing.

Do these and then do some Google research about schools that suit you and can admit you. There is joy when the work is done, when you know you ran the race, and when the crown of victory is won. Best wishes!

Good day nairalanders,
You all know I have been working on getting my school transcript but the school went on strike so I can't apply without it and TOEFL (which I hvnt written).
But yestanite,my uncle who's my supposed sponsor living in Virginia US saw the whole process as time consuming and stressful decided to send an invitation mail to me for Christmas celebration..
The plan being to restart the admission process when I come there.
So now, what's the next step because he sent the mail yesterday.
And any other relevant advise will be appreciated.
Thanks

going by your brother's invitation means you are going by b1/b2 route.

if it's successful and you decide to go to school over there, you are still likely to fly back to nigeria for F1 visa cos i learnt adjustment from b1/b2 to F1 is "near impossible" in the USA, especially if you overstayed the visiting days you stated on your forms.

i may not be completely right though.

Lemme try to help you the best way I can. Am currently doing a masters degree in Information systems at Cleveland state university and it would be wonderful to have a Nigerian too in the department

First, How did you hear about this school?
If you say your Dad's friend/alumni, it better be true. If they ask you for his name and you go blank. Remember they have a database and can run instant search. You are better off saying you knew about the school after doing online searches than for you to be caught lying.

Secondly, Why Cleveland State University for a business seeking degree and not top schools.
Remove your mind from the bolded. You are going for an IT degree and not really a business degree. Even though Cleveland state university houses this program under their business school, the other school I applied to housed the same program under their Library science faulty, Engineering Faculty, Computer Science faculty etc. I just get to have a MBA upon graduation though. grin lol
Nevertheless, you response to this question was too generic. Most schools in the US have good and quality professors. I guess the other schools you applied to would have good professors too. If you must talk about good professors then you would need to name one or two professors and highlight their achievements.
Also you said something about "well equipped with appliances that would help me not to only gain theorical knowledge, but practical knowledge as well". This is way too generic. Try to talk specific appliances/laboratory equipments like "access to new generation graphic processor units for brute force attack simulations, cloud computing infrastructures etc. Dude, Look for more examples.
Then try to remove the location of downtown Cleveland as a determinant for you choosing the schools. Downtown of a city might not be the most conducive environment for learning. You don't want to institute an element of doubt in the VO

Thirdly, your response to "Why Information systems and What this degree would do for you is not really top notch. To me both questions are similar and the same answer would suffice for both. Try to relate the answers to the knowledge you gained on your computer and hardware engineering apprenticeship. This is really your strongest point and it would be in your best interest to talk about it at every slight opportunity. Talk about how this degree would improve upon the knowledge you gained back then and also give you knew skill sets (you will talk about specific skill sets here too o). Then you can finish work with how you would return back to Nigeria to apply all this knowledge on big IT firms like Interswitch, google, Andela, Cisco etc.

You can also view my visa transcript incase you need further help

Do all this and I might be welcoming you with a big hug to Cleveland in January. You go just bring two paint of garri and egusi for me. You know as e dey be na. grin

Hello baba,
Please I did like to talk to you. Please help with your email

Hi. I am going for a masters in health services administration at Tulane University SPHTM. This place is truly a gold mine and I learnt so much here. I got approved on 27th of sept in abj. Just picked up my passport today. I felt I should give back to the community. There is a lot of background story to this interview but for the sake of brevity i will just go straight to my interview. This was my 2nd attempt.

V.O, good morning

Me, good morning

V.O, where are you going to

Me, Tulane university in new orleans for a masters in health services administration otherwise known as health care management

V.O, how did you hear about the school

Me, when i first made up my mind that i wanted a masters, i went to google and searched for top 20 schools of public health in USA, then i bagan checking each school on their official website. Tulane ranked 12th on the US news and world reports and also My supervisor mentioned the school as one at the forefront on research on tropical diseases which is important to Nigeria...V.O, i will stop you right there.

V.O, why now when you do not have enough medical experience

Me, Not at all, I have been a medical doctor for over 3 yrs now (told her all i have done since graduation till now, all the things on my DS160). V.O, I will stop you right there, so why now?

Me, Based on this experience, i have witnessed a lot of heart shattering things such as people not being able to afford drugs, doctors and healthworkers going on strike, people dying of preventable diseases. Most burdersome is how crippled the country is when we have epidemics. We have manpower and appreciable material resources, what we lack is good administration, planning and execution on how to generate an output that covers the health issues of all Nigerians. This is why i am going to the US to gain such transferable skills. I also have plans of owning my own hospital in Nigeria in the next 6yrs and I need this training to be able to run it efficiently and effectively with aims of giving affordable and accessible health care to my people...VO...i will stop you right there.

V.O, who is sponsoring this

Me, My uncle and i mentioned his name

V.O, can i see a statement

Me, yes, here you go

VO, what does he do

Me, told her

V.O, why is he doing this.

Me, he has always been supportive of my academic pursuits and wants me to be an instrument of positive change in the healthsector of this country

V.O looks at me seriously then says...do you agree to take full responsibility of this document if its found to be fake, this will cost you a 10yrs ban

Me, Yes, its authentic.

V.O, Ok, you have been approved...then the famous temporary deafness started....you will need this i20 at the port of entry...
Me, come again...repeats herself. Your passport will be available so so date, Me, pls come again....VO repeats herself....VO, you wont be able to enter the US 30 days before start of school so the earliest date for you to enter the US is so so date...Me, pls come again...VO, repeats herself. Are you clear with all i have said?
Me, yes

V.O, picks up the white paper and hands it over to me, do have a nice day.
Me, and you too.

Few tips that i can give based on my experience.

1st believe in yourself, sounds cliche right but its tested and trusted. My 1st interview, i met the infamous african american woman and honestly it was not pleasant atall. So if you know within you that you did the whole process yourself, had all your documents intact like i did and the only issue was the interview, do try again.

I am single, in my twenties and have not travelled before. So do not let that bother you so much.

Avoid agents pls. Avoid agents pls. They can be soo wicked. Do everything yourself. Come here for information

Pls be confident, its necessary...there was this guy shouting ontop of his voice thinking it was projecting confidence but we listening could hear the anxiety in every syllable what more the V.O. He was denied. Pls practice well before hand.

I have always been confident about my abilities. GPA 3.6/4 (Wes evaluated). GRE total 310. Applied kindda late to 8 schools was admitted into 7. Two gave me partial scholarships. So i was pretty confident. After the 1st denial, i was truly humbled but i am a resilient fellow. I hardly give up. I found God again...lol, sounds funny but its true. I prayed harder than I did before the 1st interview. I had to trust God this time and it worked.

Listen to motivationals, they helped me alot. I went on youtube, saw a lot. I discovered TD Jakes. What a gifted speaker. It will help you get over the few days depression and push you on.

I had to also contact ppl here to help me. Some answered, some didnt and i understand. People are busy with school, work and all but for a shy guy like me who likes to keep my business my business, i dreaded putting up my enquiries so i contacted the ones i noticed gave enlightening responses with a touch of humanity and who were willing to help others. Few answered, most didnt. So go with the ones that replied you.

Pls during the interview, learn to talk, express yourself. Do not be rigid. A lady i observed who was laughing with the consular officer and smiling through out got hers. I had to learn to smile like those beauty pagent models. My first interview was corrupted with the mantra of dont talk if not spoken to, do not answer what you were not asked...so i was a one word answering machine..yes, no...i did not even expatiate on questions and there was this long period when she was just typing on end, i was expecting more questions but none came afterwords because i read here how brief one had to be, anyways the point is pls by all means express yourself fully. When you notice them typing for long, present your case again, talk about the school, ask for opinion on the city you intend to go to school, say your future plans for Nigeria. Dont just keep mute. Let the V.O be the one to say 'stop'

I want to thank Promise, God bless you. Also Ubah, thank you...your candid advice helped.
Lastly to everyone who posted here, thanks. I started from group 9 to this current group. Its long, I am sorry but I hope this helps someone who genuinely wants to better himself or herself positively. Like i said, i am not inclined to put up things here but if you have questions, feel free to reach out and i will try and answer your emails. Pls be patient with me as i am a doctor with really busy hrs. Never, ever give up. God bless you all.

At last, we have goodnews and the first one in the month of October, congratulations.

More please, we need more to build our confidence.

Plz send me your number

Please house ECE or IERF; which is faster and can evaluate my transcript in a month. I am willing to pay for 5 days rush service. I don't want verification process to delay the evaluation; so I will prefer an agency that doesn't send back to Nigeria schools for verification.
Also, which is more acceptable. The school i am applying to don't have any preference but I am looking at future use. Thank you.

Aside WES which requires verification of documents from school, ECE is more recognized and doesn't do verification like WES. So go with ECE, they are fast.

Hey bro, we should talk, phone/e-mail; admitted to ECPI University and same course, maybe we will help each other when we get there, my interview is soon.

As for your Sevis payment, My cousin in the states helped me, if you want I could tell her to assist also. Let me know when you see this.
Hi, I have already filled the form myself, which states I should pay via moneygram or western union. Is their any chances for someone to pay for me via credit card in the states?

Let the person pay for you via western union anywhere in U.S.
