Most times ,it is the reaction of parents and people a stammerer lives wit that worsens and lengthens the stammering.your frustration will somehow get to the kid and lowers his self esteem which is already low with the stammering .

realize he is more frustrated than any body could be about the stammering.do all you can to let him engage in activities in which he excels above all ,it may be football,the more he realises with his stammering he can still be on top and ahead of all ,his stammering will be swallowed up by confidence in himself and his ability.it is a self esteem issue .you will do better if you let him go lie with folks who are more knowledgeable then you in many aspects of life e.g intellectuals couple .who are prone to handle issues more rationally .finally prayers helps.

Op, you can help by making him to read aloud. That way, he can pick his words slowly.

Also, he can be healed of it, put it to God in prayers and see what God will do.

Teach him to sing. I was stammering when I was young it was so bad that I stamp my feet when trying to talk. You will never see anyone that stammers while singing.

At OP do not mind the jobless youths and kids on this forum. This is the best time to encourage your kid. I stammered too when i was very young and instead of parents and siblings to assist me overcome it i was mocked. This caused me to struggle with my self esteem. Thank fully I have out grown it and more and more confident in each passing day. I still stammer a lil tho but its under control.

Solution:

Correct your child with love and tell him to take a deep breath and repeat the word slowly. Scold anyone who mocks him. Also, let him mix alot with his peers and kids activities such as sunday school acting, singing etc

My his grace he will overcome.

pitiful how many little boys inhabit nairaland lately.

when my 3 year old son suddenly started stammering, i was visibly worried. one day my aunt tried harassing the poor boy, i shouted her down immediately and demanded she left my house asap. i showed my boy, abundance of love. watched him closely, quietly reminded him to try harder. Few weeks down the line, he became absolutely great again.

To all those mocking this visibly worried parent. I pray you have the opportunity to eat your own words.

good day MA. you would need to be having long slow conversation with him. let the child know he stammers and tell the child to stammer deliberately as you discuss, been cautious about it make him try to talk purely .it a long process but you will come out ma.

i stammer also, it's always difficult during the younger age. sometimes it's caused by mimicking someone who don't talk smoothly, if that's the case he will outgrow it. if this is the case shouting at him will help alot because stammering isn't in him/her. but if stammering is in the family no amount of slap and shouting will ever correct anything. the only thing there is to calm him/her down when speaking. teaching him/her how to speak slowly i. thank God for my girlfriend then. she played a major role in my own case. infact I will say God used her in my life. because she was a slow speaker. I copied her method. right now I can speak 90% smoothly. do not put pressure on your child because pressure will activate anxiety in him/her thereby causing more harm.

.....let him read psalms 20 inside water to drink all the time. That's what he should do and drink henceforth.... Train him to speak gently and easily.... And the God of speech will perfect his speech.... He should avoid noisy environment.

I swear to Allah. correct slap will reset his/her brain. I thought my mum was wicked but I later realized she helped me. it took me seconds to pronounce 'mummy' bt I discovered I could pronounce correctly after every slap. I beg u. don't let the boy/girl regret it. slap the shit outta him/her.

shut up their jhor....stupid African mentality, this is why oyinbo better pass us, how is beating a child always a solution to all his problems.. I was a stammerer too when I was kid my mum normally shout at me, this made me quiet and introverted, I don't speak in public, but my class teacher help me out.. (1)take a deep breath before you talk (2) try to speak as quietly as possible... and it work grin

Tell him to always calm himself down whenever he wants to talk and breath in and out, and then tall slowly. Another remedy is speaking in a language that's more comfortable for him to communicate verbally without stress(I speak Igbo and English, but I'm more comfortable speaking fluently with ease with English language. I was a stammerer when I was a kid but later over came it with these methods..

He should always be calm before speaking and should never be in a rush to speak. It's nervousness at times. He will outgrow it. All the best

for me... my teacher help me out tho.. I couldn't speak properly and my friends always make fun of me, she told me to always take a deep breath before I talk (2) try to speak as quietly as possible

Stuttering is as a result of poor development of the broadcast area of the brain,the part of the brain that controls speech and language,this usually happens because of Gene inherited.
Encourage your child to speak slowly with confidence,encourage your child to have more friends to enable him converse regularly with his peers,and lastly exercise patience as he grows out of it.

I wander when stammering have now turned to a disease,it is always natural and u can just pray to be lucky and your kid outgrows it naturally too.I believe it cannot affect his potentials if it is not joined with being moronic.Some known great men stammerers.

Don't mind those telling you to slap your little kid.
2 things might be the cause; either hereditary or lack of confidence.

Whatever the case may be, take time to study him. Encourage him not to rush while talking. Also discourage him not to speak whenever he his angry as there is high tendency of stammering while angry.

With time, he will outgrow it.

You are in the best position to help him..always tell him to calm down whenever he finds it hard to pronounce words..i was before but it took patience,conscious effort to overcome it..just be calm with him and ignore those mallams telling you to use slap default setting..

I think it has to do with d tongue take d child to see a pedestrian to examine his mouth or tongue very well I know they normally correct surgically but it dam expensive or d child (might) out grow it
