Anambralstson: My friend tell that to the gullible and not us. Sabmiller first came to the country in 2008 when he bought majority stake in international breweries in Ilesa osun state and later bought standard brewery in Ibadan, subsequently bought Pabod brewery in Port-harcourt. I now wonder how Obi brought sabmiller to the country. I am saying it again “lie kii you there”! |

seunmsg: SABMiller Brewery valued at $100 million dollars (N15 billion) would be inaugurated in Anambra, in August, Peter Stuttard, the Business Development Manager of the company said on Friday. According to Stuttard, 22.5 per cent share of the new brewery is owned by indigenous entrepreneurs, which consist of 10 per cent for Anambra State Government, while other private local investors have 12.5 per cent. Stuttard said that production would commence in September after the opening by President Jonathan. He said the construction works on the brewery, which is expected to produce beer and malt for a start, had reached 90 percent stage. The manager said that the decision to site the `gigantic' brewery in Onitsha was borne out of the fact that Onitsha is the biggest commercial city in West Africa. “Nigeria is a strategic country for any serious-minded company that wants to achieve success in their business endeavour,” he said. “ Any prospective company which has not come to Nigeria could be said not to have arrived Africa and on the other hand, any company that wants to expand its scope cannot afford to neglect Onitsha. “We are in Nigeria to do good business and we are here to generate employment, create wealth and attend to our corporate social responsibilities to the people and to the communities where we operate. “All we need is cooperation from the people and as we grow, we grow with them,’’ he said Stuttard commended Governor Peter Obi for his ability to convince the company to come to Nigeria “We are not alone in this business, Anambra government and Onitsha people have assisted us a lot in providing land.” He said that the company would comply with the regulations of agencies such as Standards Organisation of Nigeria, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and the Nigeria Customs Service for smooth operation of its business. http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/markets/companies-and-market/37543-sabmiller-to-commission-n15bn-brewery-in-august 2 Likes |

Jiang:Peter Obi brought Sab to Nigeria they first acquired a rundown brewery in Port Harcourt in 2009 and then another in Ilesha before it built a brand-new plant in Onitsha in 2012. Peter Obi is Nigeria biggest shareholder, the chairman of international brewery is Obi of Onitsha. Read more from Economist https://www.economist.com/business/2014/05/31/the-beer-frontier Nigeria, in contrast, is one of SAB’s fastest-growing ventures. Stung by its experience in Kenya, the firm had initially been wary of entering a market where it faced not one but two big incumbents—Guinness, owned by Diageo, and Nigerian Breweries, owned by Heineken, a Dutch giant which also has ambitions to refresh all parts of Africa. This time it was careful to avoid a head-on clash with its rivals. It kept out of Lagos, the country’s commercial capital. (Costs are also higher there.) “We are a regional player,” insists Simon Harvey, head of SAB’s Nigerian businesses. It treats its three breweries there as separate entities. Each has its own brands. A new beer was developed just for Onitsha. Nigerians like larger-than-life names: the country’s leading brand is called Star; SAB named its beer Hero. Its label features the rising sun, an icon of the local Igbo people. SAB uses such symbolism in other African markets to give its beers a local identity. “People badge themselves with beer,” says Alan Clark, the company’s overall boss. “It has an emotional content.” The firm’s brand in Zambia is Mosi, the local name for Victoria Falls; the label depicts the frothing waterfall. In Tanzania its best-selling beer is Kilimanjaro. Each ale has a distinct taste. Hero is brewed with fewer hops than a European lager. This gives it a less bitter, more refreshing taste that is suitable for a hot climate. It also makes the beer more “sessionable”: people can drink more of it. A push to make factory-made beer more affordable is an important part of SAB’s strategy on the continent. An average consumer works for 2-6 hours to earn enough to buy half a litre, compared with 17 minutes in America (see chart 2). Hero is priced competitively. A 650ml bottle costs 150 naira ($1), around 25% cheaper than a bottle of Star. 2 Likes

Indeed. We want the competition to be about ideas not rhetoric. About solutions not complaints. How I wish we had a fraction of the parliamentary system and both Atiku and Obi were the tip of the shadow government, debating policy and government actions at every turn. The authors of the edict proscribing campaigns till the eve of elections are undermining our democracy. We need to lift that anchor inorder to sail into the future. We need constant organised political critique from the day a new government is sworn in till it finishes then we can safely and effectively sift the wheat of performance from the shaft of sentimemt and maladministration. We need that edict repealed. We can no longer give a free pass to government electees to do as they please for three and a half years unchecked. The so called excuse of political distraction is false. Politicians need to be constantly on their toes, then perhaps they will give more time researching ideas and not practicing dance steps. 1 Like |

It’s a joke when government is feeding school children whose parents are so poor. But it’s never a joke when government is spending trillions of Naira to bail out companies ruined by your elite friends. |
