Permit me to digress a bit and gist small about our camp commandant .

So during one of the evening parades (before I joined the OBS), we were introduced to our camp commandant for the first time. Before now, I felt we had already met him because I thought the RSM was the commandant (with his scary demeanour and Gulder belly ).

Well, I was wrong.

Before he was called to address us, the rest of the soldiers ordered all of us to seat on the bare (tarred) parade ground. Just to listen to their oga, everyone go Siddon with their white for ground.

We sha sat down and one tall, good looking fellow in his official military uniform came forward and spoke to us.
While he was addressing us, I couldn't help but pick his ethnic group from the way he pronounced certain words.

'Las Las, na this aboki uncle go finish us'.

This was what I told Greg whom was sitting next to me with Tola, when the going was still good. Tola said that we shouldn't even bother where he's from, instead we should stay on our lane and any issues that'll involve him.
Another observation most of took notice of was his repeated use of the phrase 'I will delete you' , whenever he wants to reiterate consequences of faltering any of the camp rules.

At the end of his speech, some boys started chanting...

'Delete!
Delete!!
Delete!!!

The chant died immediately few soldiers almost changed it for some of the guys chanting.

From that evening until the end of camp, the commandant was nicknamed 'Capt. Delete' .
But it didn't stop him from using his usual phrase and it went on to get so popular that one time our state coordinator even used it in one of his addresses as a joke.

Quick moral lesson:
Na only big men like state coordinator fit crack joke with coordinator sha .

I had to write about our camp commandant because he changed my view about military-civilian relationship. Before now, I detested how the military treated and related to the rest of us civilians. Even having them close to me in camp gave me the chills sometimes, like when that babe brought a soldier to take a chair from me in one of the previous episodes.
I've also read several camp diaries of other folks here on NL and what they usually said about their commandant and the rest of military under his command in the camp aren't usually very nice.
But surprisingly, our Capt. Delete was jovial and nice to everyone, especially the sisters . He was the typical 'guy man' who didn't use his position to punish or stress any corper. He participated in most of the activities we had in camp to show support and he was easily most corpers favourite official. I couldn't say same for the rest of the other soldiers o lol.
At the end of the orientation exercise, he was recognised by the NYSC Lagos for his leadership skills and dedication to discharge of duty during the orientation period .

DAY 18


Not much happened today so I won't bore you so much today, hopefully .
Today was the inter platoon football final and unfortunately, I can't recall either the platoons that made it to the final nor the winners. This is because my platoon didn't even make it past the group stages and anything my platoon isn't part of, I easily lose interest in it.

Before this day, there was a novelty football match I'd rather talk about fez. It was a game between the camp officials versus the female corpers .

No fear, I didn't watch it

But my friend who saw the game told me to just imagine a game where a bunch of Man o war guys played football against a very poor side filled with otondo babes . That that's how the game went, lol.
Most guys said the game was even more interesting than the inter platoon finals because of the several hilarious moments the game had.

Why wouldn't it af when babes dey play .

One would expect the game to end in a wide margin of goal score, but it instead ended with a paltry scoreline of 2 - 0 in favour of the ojoro officials .

Back to the main finals:
The team that took part in this finals were scary looking, as they looked like pro footballers. I remember watching one of the semi finals and I was wondering if some of these guys played in the NPFL. That was how good they were.

Even my room leader, Turkey played for his platoon and missed a penalty during a shootout . And one of our roomies who was watching the game mocked my guy for his miss and Turkey couldn't find a place to hide his face in shame. Nevertheless, his side still won the shootout.
Then it was turn for our roomie (who was mocking him) to play for his platoon in the next match. They lost by 4 goals to nil to the opponents.

Karma avenged Turkey and we didn't hear word later that evening in the room .

Fast forward to the evening which was the much anticipated Camp Blast Night; the biggest social activity in Lagos camp. Before this evening, we in the OBS obtained a list of artistes to perform this evening and the list had a bit of interesting acts to watch out for. We teased the camp community with announcements of the evening for days preceding this evening.
The show was sponsored by beat FM of Lagos and had Comedian/actor Ushbebe as host of the evening. The event started with performances from several upcoming acts who consisted of our fellow corpers and some invited acts. Most guys didn't feel their performances apart from one babe who performed and caused a stir with her cleavage.

Boys were encouraging the babe to continue performing even after she had finished with her performance and was about to exit the stage, lol.

Then it was now time for the main artistes of the night ( I'm listing in no particular order)

Ruggedman came in and gave the crowd some of his classics like 'joor o' verse, 'show me how you want am', etc. He also brought brought on stage his protégé who dazzled the crowd with his hit song (which I can't remember).
Uncle Sound Sultan came next and jazzed us with a wonderful performance. The veteran made sure we relieved some good ol' times with his monster hits of the past. My favorite from this night was still 'show me your kokosé' .
Pepenazi came on and performed to the thrill of everyone.
Then it was time for my Jaywon
Baba came and we all cheered him to bless us with 'this year' performance which he did. The performance had most of everyone's participation because even the staff who attended the show stood and sang along to the catchy song.
*I'm one of his top listeners and my top songs of his are usually the ones he features my favourite Rapper (Vector tha viper) in .
Small doctor was next and no one expected his appearance until Ushbebe announced him. Trust me when I say the crowd tore into new energy I couldn't explain its origin. Small doctor's performance had so much energy and baba blessed boys with cash before he left the stage.

The last performance of the night was by Kennyblaq whom for me, had the most brilliant performance of the evening.

*No wonder he was saved for last.

He used current industry gists to create songs and they sounded so good to everyone's ears and we also had a good laugh since they were all aimed at comic relief. His performance had the shortest duration yet made most impression on me.
At the end of his performance, the event was closed and everyone dispersed.

Reekado Banks that was scheduled to perform was a no show tho .

But still, the night was a real treat for everyone and big ups to Beat FM and NYSC Lagos for maintaining Lagos Camp as the most fun, entertaining and memorable camp in the country.

DAY 19

So today was my birthday, Yaaay!

And Greg's birthday too

And one of my colleagues in the OBS too .

To crown everything, today was Camp Carnival Day .

Since SAED had ended a few days back, there were no boring morning activities anymore, so today was all about fun galore .
Prior to this day, various platoons planned ahead of the carnival, creating cultural themes they were given to represent, print designs on their tops to make their platoons stand out.
Don't get it twisted; on camp carnival day, you can wear whatever you want to but the general wear corpers usually have on this day is a white customised top and blue jean trousers. Then with any badass kicks you came to camp with .

We in the OBS didn't have any special plans for today, which I regretted. Instead, we hoped to join follow through with our respective platoon plans for the day.
When it was time for the carnival to begin and people started stepping from the hostel to the parade ground, I was stunned at the looks of most of the girls and this has little to do with their clothing, rather it was their make up.

Lemme break it down

You see all these while we've all been in this camp eh, majority of the girls wore no make up. Those who tried to wear make up initially regretted it after their faces were usually messed up by perspiration at the end of activities like drills and parades . Only a few still went on to glam up and some didnt soil their make up even after strenuous activities.

Maybe na dem be better painters or they're using the original oyel paint .

But on a serious note sha, this make up thing caused a heated argument during the meeting between room heads and top camp officials (the one Dickson missed).
One of the room heads raised a complaint of her room members who wake up hours before rising time to bath and glam up. Here's the funny part of her complaint: by the time these girls wake to bake their faces, there's no electricity in the hostel as the generator hasn't been turned on yet. So they'll use their flashlights to glam up in the dark .
While the girl was still complaining, another stood up to counter her complaint, saying that making up wasn't illegal and they don't disturb others with it. And those unhappy with those making up are just jealous .
And just laidat, quarrel started between the females who were now divided into both sides of the issue at hand .
We the males just sat back to have a good laugh, including our state coordinator who was part of the meeting .

Back to the carnival.

So babes af glammed up to and were looking so peng . I almost didn't recognise some of my female OBS colleagues sef. Walahi, I didn't know that these girls were this fine, I for set P since.

Na this otondo white dey spoil person market .

Today, Kele and one of the girls were the comperes of the carnival and the event proper started at about 10 am. Every platoon gave an applaudable parade show, with their cultural display as the main highlights.
I was going through the order of carnival parade, I saw OBS listed as one of the groups to have its own parade .
We weren't informed about this arrangement and it was too sudden. I couldn't even stress Kele since he had a job to do.

The way I dislike impromptu sturvs eh .

Out of desperation, I started calling our members who had joined their platoons for the parade to comman convene so we can do something and show everyone pepper stew .

When our turn came for the parade, our DJ didn't disappoint us with jams of life for the parade. It was so much fun and interesting that our staff came and joined in the parade. We formed a circle and had a short dance-off to the amusement and applause of everyone. My colleagues brought craze I didnt know they had that day sha .

Since today was my birthday , I was called out with the other celebrants of the day. Greg (as AY told me) had gone to the mami to celebrate with his teeming female friends .
The whole camp as usual sang and celebrated us as we cut the birthday cake we were presented with . My OBS colleagues came around and presented gifts to both of us in the OBS celebrating today. Then we took loads of pictures. It was a special birthday for me and I was clearly over the moon with how today turned out for me.

Did I tell you guys that Platoon Two brought a GOAT to the Carnival and did their parade with the animal . These guys brought a freaking live white Goat that was painted with the platoon's name (in red) and adorned with a red scarf on it's neck to top off the packaging .

Here's a fuckd up thing that happened between Greg and I prior today:
When we found out that we had the same birthdays, we went on telling everyone and made agreement to have a duo celebration this day. Part of the plans was to get a cake and keep some money aside to host a few friends and our roomies. Due to the disagreement we had few days before this day, Greg called off the plans and went ahead to do everything we planned alone. We didn't even see nor take any pictures this day. That was how fuckd up it was. Why I was a lil pissed was that some of the folks we told about today's plans were now asking me how far with the plans.
Well, I handled and answered them politely and everything passed by. Crazy world right?!

I mean, I don't blame him or anything because it's both of us at fault here and we could've patched things up before today. But somehow I wasn't even sad about the outcome for more than a minute.

Results for the parade came in and the platoon with the Northern (Arewa) theme took the first place. No one was surprised at this because the platoon's costumes and props was just wonderful. Coupled with their performance, they were clear favourites for the winner and they got it.

We the celebrants were called and we took pishures with the state coordinator, winning platoons, camp director, captain Delete and friends. My OBS people brought their craze here and we almost knocked the cake table over .

Later in the afternoon, we received our 19,800NGN and boys were back on cash to return back to their jaiye jaiye lifestyle at the mami fellowship .

By evening time, the mami was bursting with the typical Friday night's life. Guys and babes hooking up, even staff also setting P's .

It was bonfire night today with cool FM at the mami so the night was about to get better. Already tired from the day's fun, I stayed back in the studio reading and replying the truck load of birthday messages. Some of my colleagues who went out for the bonfire returned minutes later, disappointed at how the evening was going lol.

Even the asún that was prepared for everyone no reach them. A while OBS pipu .

10:30pm approached and the day was ended. I retired to my bed very tired yet very happy .
