Thank u sir. Between GTB and Stanbic IBTC which one is better for Tbills? I went to GT last week and they said their rate is 10.5% annually, I will compare it to Stanbic but I've not gone there yet

From experience Stanbic and First bank have always been better.

If you have an account with either of the banks, you can use it.

lol, Greece operate in the Euro zone so their financial system and yours are not the same, Venezuela is a different kettle of fish!! You are comparing apples with oranges basically, make no mistakes, im not implying default is impossible, however, the implications is one that Nigeria can not afford at this time.

Well, today is Sunday and rates are gotten on the general working days(monday to Friday). However you should be able to get rates of about 10% for shorter tenors and greater than 13% for longer ones

Been telling people about this... but noooo... people think Tbills are so safe and sweet they have forgotten about the implications of inflation. They want better rates, but they don't know the implications. If hyperinflation should catch up with us, most of you will wish you already had something as Volatile and criticized as Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies.

The higher the return on our Tbill rates that means the more risky it is to have anything to do with this country, especially our naira or bonds etc. There is a reason Tbill rates in America is 1-3%, and that of Nigeria is between 12-18%, some of you all think you are flexing. Pray it doesn't start to get higher than that as it only means our naira is becoming more useless and our country risky to invest in.

Hope you know the higher the interest rates returns on Tbills, that implies more risk? This is basic finance. Doesn't matter what country or continent, the laws of demand and supply will always apply to anything.

Why do you all think Tbills was very high 2016 and last year? Why is it lower now?

We have many eggheads here. Well done guys! The argument is very healthy for our investment/savings.
Each time I see the money in my $ Dom account, it make me sad. Can't convert to Naira to buy Tbill. Bought at N400 and now it is N360. I have decided to forget it until something positive happens.

I know some people will say that higher rates means more risk, but I am still going to rejoice at this 16%. Hopefully in three years time it would go down to 5%, by then I am already rich so won't care for higher rates. In the meantime, abegi let it be 25% sef or even more lol. In fact 40% like Argentina

People like us don't pray some thing happens rather we are praying the naira strengthen against the dollar. Probably #300/$

I am wondering, did you ever see me say "do not buy Tbills?"

This is why I dislike advising Nigerians. They become hostile towards the truth. The same reason why the country is in shambles today.

I just stated some facts about what we are all putting our money in, me included. Also the importance about hedging and the risk of higher rates, inflation and not considering buying power.

Tell me, are we only to come here to discuss how good 16/18% rates are good? How we are becoming richer? Without understanding anything about Tbills? Or factors that affect rates? Or why higher rates should make you scared? It's almost like investing in something and expecting more returns without understanding the implications or why there should be more returns.

I am sorry for saying the truth about our safe investment, Tbills. I am sorry for trying to make people understand money more. I am sorry for saying anything at all in the first place. I can see I might be the enemy to so many people's dreams of becoming rich through Tbills, I apologize.

This isn't about becoming hostile to the truth or disliking Nigerians, what other options do we have that are risk free like this that aren't affected by inflation?? either you invest in Tbills or not inflation is going to affect everyone it. I truly agree that when rates are going up, there's more to it but what do we do Sit down and look? Years back rates were over 16% so??
I believe we are much better than those who aren't investing at all.

My broda hold your peace, if u know , u know.....

U have said it all, someone even said TB has a 40yr history without default and for that u are saying rubbish, pls ignore . I have ALL my lives savings in TB and the returns are even higher than I earn , but wisdom has thought me that not all that glitters is gold.

My only input here is for those who will listen, don't put all your eggs in one basket, as soon as my funds in Tb hit a certain mark I will liquidate half of it for another investment, just in case. God forbid anything happens.

People should try to open up there minds .....we should learn everyday.

Apparently, it's good to diversify as someone said. I invest part of my fund in MMF and the other one goes to annuity for life.

Although God will not let our hard earned money vanish like as if we're otunba cash.
Easy come.....easy goes but it's more hurtful when you earn honestly and loose it all.

That won't be our portion in this forum

Just ignore them and do your thing. They are plenty on nairaland and they even know better than CBN. Lol Imagine those defense approach grin. Initially it was "Risk'' and now the story has changed. There is a significant difference between advising someone about diversification and initiating someone into negativity /false claim. The now diversification is a poor attempt to divert attention from the first point of fact violators. Basically majority of Treasury Bills investors have their portfolio, including myself, such as Mutual Funds, e.t.c. But that's not the point raised before. But the story has suddenly changed. We all know how to throw fufu or eba into our mouth and at the same pretend nothing is in our mouth.. grin.

I don't blame them at all because I was once in their shoes. But let me tell you something, when you’re trying to solve problems, negative people will always come up with a reason it won’t work. They have this believe that their opinion should shake your reality. So, rather than participate in their negative conversation, just avoid them. If TB is your only single inv account and if you can afford it invest big on TB and you will smile. Don’t let anyone mess up your masterpiece. Failure and Loss will never be our portion and we will all never be part of them. If you cannot be positive, then at least, be quiet.
