ChrisKels: Lol. Yohanna is not a Hausa name. It's an Arab/Coptic Christian name derived from the Biblical name "John" whom the Arabs call "Yohan". Yohanna is the female form (like Paul and Paulina.) That's where Yohan Blake the Jamaican athlete got his name. |

Icon4s: Lol. Superstition plays a large role in the naming of people in Africa. Some even go as far as changing their native names deemed to be "satanic" to foreign names that they don't even know the meanings of. . I know someone who changed her name from "Nnennaya" meaning "her father's mother" (a reflection of the Igbo traditional belief in reincarnation) to Cecelia. Imagine her shock then, when I told her that "Cecelia" means "the blind one" . Abeg, pikin dey go make am go make am, the one wey go useless go useless. If you like name am "Christ Jesus". Nonsense and superstition. . 1 Like |

But majority bear their traditional names. I’ve schooled in that region once, and I know that for a fact. IMO their names are actually the sexiest in Nigeria. Icon4s: |

Curtisaxel7: Words are borrowed from one culture to another, same with names and it can retain its meaning or not. However, you're right about Yohanna being derived from John, and so it's associated with the males here in the North. |

Earthquake2: Those are the exceptions. To every rule there are exceptions. But let's be honest with ourselves, which of those players you mentioned has made a "MEANINGFUL impact" since they joined the SE?. Which one of them can't be easily replaced? Which one is a standout performer for us?. The answer is a big fat ZERO!!!. I'm not trying to castigate Rohr or anything but the facts speak for themselves. A good scouting system targets players for the positions where there is a genuine lack of talent. We didn't have a proper AM in the build up to the WC (since Rohr blatantly refused to use Iwobi as an AM). The lack of cohesion in our midfield in the pre-WC games buttressed this fact. A good scouting coach would've concentrated on finding us an AM. He would've spotted a certain young and talented youngster named Ebere Eze playing regularly in the Championship. There are also the Onomahs and others scattered all over the world. But instead, he chose to play a career defensive midfielder as a 10 against Croatia, boasting of one the best midfield personnels in the modern game. The rest is history. Gernot Rohr is certainly good in many aspects, but we cannot but note that his player scouting has left much to be desired. 1 Like |

Icon4s: Those names are synonymous with catholics from the East ,middle belt and even Bendel. But name like Colinus, Donatus, Longinus, etc have latin influence. You will know this if you are a catholic and probably an alter boy, which I was. |
