19 although am broke asf right now, am 23.

mine was multiple millions I made it from bitcoin, software and domain names.

one guy from nairaland here introduced me to bitcoin back then (for free ) he was giving one eBook like that.

I learned a few thing from his book, but being the mad man that I was, I discovered a way to tipple my result and boom I was raking in bitcoin like craze.

then I hooked up with this Chinese girl on Facebook we started swaping ideas before you know it I had about 20 bitcoin. at then one bitcoin was about 200$ then some crazy sh** happend bitcoin went from 200$ to about 1000$.

I cashed out. dude, I was fucking rich. but as you already know 19years and millions are not a healthy combination.

I basically thought I was the next bill gate. it funny how success leads to success then to more success, then to a huge failure. me and my best friends, we were living lavish.

again some one from this same nairaland sold an eBook about domain name buying and selling to me.

I started trying to buy domain name, but wasn't making much (like 500$ per month) 500$ didn't mean much to me back then.

then I stumbled upon this white guy, he was also a domain name trader, he was teaching people how to buy and sell domain and software on flippa. although his course was expensive about 800$ I bought it, then I also bought a 1000$ course on digital marketing. after the taking those courses I lunched out on my own, I bought a bunch of domain names and about 4 softwares.

most of the domain name didn't sell well some didn't sell atall but 3 sold for a wopping some of 15000$ combined.

it is funny how lots of people say money can't change them I was one of those guys. but trust me after this second win, I was sure I was going to be up there with mark zuckarburg some day.

then something crazy happened, one of my 4 software gained like 3million active users. turned out the original owner of the software was from isereal, and his research was on point, isreali market really needed the software, but the guy was marketing and trying to monitize it the wrong way.

by accident I got it just right the software began marketing it self and before you know it a giant iseareli company asked me to sell it to them.

being young and dumb I didn't know how to monitize it so when I saw who was willing to pay, bam I sold it. I made a mistake though, I should have let them name a price or at least named an unrealistic price but silly me I asked for what I thought was a fair price 100000$.

they did what every good business men would do they bargained for a lower price 70k$.

I agreed bam this time even GOD couldn't stop me I was mega rich.

but like what my mentors always say when there is to much supply of money, it begins to flow to unnecessary places. I blew all the money, although most were on other ventures that later failed.

yea I spent good money on lavish lifestyle , but I wasn't that stupid, most of my money actually went into other businesses and investment but I was young and stupid so I paid for it .

I walked away with lot of experiential knowledge. at this point in my life I am trying to gain momentum again and GOD know that when I do, I'm never stopping, I'm not saying I have learned everything there is to learn, I'm saying that i have learned to do less stupid things than most people and I still think am going to be up there with the big boys although I don't want to be famous like them I don't want to be on any list.
your story is so inspiring, sent you a pm,hope to hear from you soon

Amazing thread...away from politics and sports. Wow! With what I've read so far, I've got no doubts in my mind that nigeria would be ok in a few years to come as predicted. But why did buhari call our youths lazy? He needs to be arrested and prosecuted, seriously.

I made my first millions selling latex to the oil and gas sector at the age of 31. I just woke up one day, thought of what to do to make some money as I was tired of saying 'yes sir' to my employers. I've been making millions working for them but I needed to start making same, working for myself. I started with a proposal to their headquarters in lagos. I was asked to drop samples which I did, then the rest was history. I expanded the supply to pharmacy stores nationwide. As the business was threatened by nafdac on registration with politics from above by somebody who showed interest, I was pulling back gradually. I later entered the health sector with the sale of medical consumables and later major medical equipment from CT to USS, Digital X-ray, equipping hospitals, etc. I became famous in less than 10 years of doing business and recognised by the USA president. I had dined and wined with world leaders, including Barak Obama. I'm meeting Tony Blair in a global entrepreneurs' gathering soon in Washington DC.

Right now, we're planning to start manufacturing of medical equipment , the first of its kind on the African soil. It's a multi million dollar project. The facility constriction is already ongoing , somewhere in ogun state. I wish all the vibrant and upcoming entrepreneurs on this thread the very best. Believe in yourself, trust in God and the rest would be history. God bless Nigeria.

okun awe ooo. Ekiti agbe a ooo.

You're focusing on the tax rate and not the tax base!

India found out that more it reduced the tax rate the higher the revenues it collected

I am sure only companies on the stock exchange and a few others actually pay the 37% tax rate (If you include the 2% education tax)

At a time it was stated only 0.1% of companies actually paid the full tax rates. The vast majority paid little or nothing.

Companies are more likely to pay taxes if the tax rate drops.

The rich will not be the only beneficiaries of a slash in the tax rate. It will spur investments from foreign investors and locals which will create lots of jobs. Business confidence will increase

I'm into estate agency and looking forward to having increase business next year

Note: I am apoiitical. I won't even vote

This govt is growing the tax collected. They are doing this by growing the tax base. They did not increase the tax rate. The Indian example you mentioned, go and check well, the increase in tax collected is not due to willingness of companies to pay because of reduced tax rate, but do to enforcement.
For the foreign investors, stable exchange rate and ease of moving their money out of Nigeria is more important to them than tax rate. The tax rate is stable and they have included it in their calculation. Nigeria has the lowest tax to GDP ratio in the world! The solution is getting more people to pay, not reducing tax rate. Countries that reduces corporate tax rate want to encourage companies to invest more. This only works if they are PAYING in the first place! When individual tax rates are reduced, it is to encourage consumption by citizens. In Nigeria that we import almost everything we use, that will not be useful as it will just create jobs in the countries we import from and cause inflation here in Nigeria! If you want to claim companies pay corporate tax, know that less than 1,000 of companies in Nigeria are quoted on the NSE! Are the multi millionaires cloth sellers in markets paying taxes? Are their staff paying income tax?
I rest my case

What's the correlation between dependence on crude oil and tax rates?

Govts need income to function! Taxes and income from crude oil are Nigeria's main sources of income. That is the relationship between the two.
For oil, the price is not within the control of Nigeria. When oil price go low, Nigeria usually experience recession. In fact, not only Nigerian. The last low crude price sent ALL countries that depends on oil into recession! So reason all govts in Nigeria have been shouting they want to diversify the economy. What they mean is they want to reduce dependence on oil so the country won't go into recession when oil price fall. So one way of reducing dependence on oil is to increase tax collections. If tax collection is so high that oil revenue is less than tax collected, we won't care if oil price is high or low. Hope you understand now

Quite true.

Doordash alone gives a relative roughly 110-200 dollars per day. In a week about 1400 dollars and about 5000 plus dollars in a month. That is roughly 1.5 to 2.0 m Naira in a month.

Even I was amazed that he could earn more than I do, even with my white collar job.

It is quite amazing. Meanwhile he could work night shift in some other places for a few more hours if he wanted to.
pls what is doordash?

The reduce tax rates will create an investment boom become many multinationals who are transparent tax payers will be attracted here.

Also, we are discussing a reduction in corporate taxes and not income taxes. Nigeria does not have the lowest tax to GDP in the world!

India's tax revenue increase was due to a reduction in the tax rates and not enforcement. The tax authorities were pleasantly surprised.

Also, stating that an increase in consumption will majorly benefits imports is misleading. You're the first person I'm hearing this from.

That statement is only practical for countries with small nations like Israel where the manufacturers focus on areas they have comparative which are primary niches or micro niches. Their home market probably accounts for less than 10% of sales

The population of their home market is not big enough to support production of household items.

When I go to the average malam, the vast majority of products sold are locally made.

I laugh sometimes and I feel like crying sometimes when I see the get rich mentality of young Nigerians. They can actually make their first million simply by farming. Mix legumes with cereals if you don't have enough money for fertilizer, cos that's the most expensive thing. We have land you can rent in abundance.

Or buy grains shortly after Harvest and drying to store until they pick in price in 3 to 6 months.

Money can be made from consistent patterns and cycles. Farming/Raining season is the natural cycle set by God.

Could you elucidate on this please?

2015. N1.5M to be exact, and since then there have been no turning back. Between 2015 and now I have made over N180 million. Ten years ago if anyone had said I'll ever see a million I would have laughed that person off. 15 years ago I was walking round Festac Town, sometimes barefooted selling vegetables (shokor) and okra. When the season comes I sell corn..With a trey over my head walking round Festac shouting "BUY SHOKOR". It's the most humiliating thing that can ever befall any on in secondary school as I get to see most of my classmates..girls included. I once saw a classmate and nearly ran for cover, unfortunately the trey fell on the road, and right there I had to stop and picking back the items one by one lol.

The day Nigeria played South Africa in the semi final at the Ghana Nigeria 2002 Nations Cup I wasn't even allowed to see the game. I had to go Kiri. Then, as timaya said " I dey on my own Jehovah just bless me o". God took me from rags, the bottom of the food chain in the family, the most despised and hated, God took me from that to become the richest person in the history of my family. Anyone who doubts the existence of God and his propensity to fight for and bless the underdog, the oppressed, is doing himself a major disservice. I have experienced first hand how God works. It's incredible.

Very inspiring story...please how did you do this? Or can i enroll as a mentee under you... Thanks smiley

Hope you understand now

you should have it at the back of your mind that tax isnt the only avenue the government has to garner revenue for diversification..

Go and read up on fiscal and monetary policy.

Besides thats not even the main issue self. With the way corruption has eaten deep iinto the thinking faculty of our policy makers, it doesnt matter how much Nigeria make from oil.. We will hardly make any headway.

Its quite pathetic

Before government will charge high taxes. There has to be increased money circulation (currently, there is no increase in money circulation). Which still boils down to crude oil (accounting for 95% of Nigeria's export revenue). Diversification is not a thing that can be achieved with just one administration. But we can start with deregulation, which is reduction of government power to create more competition and better management. This is what I believe Atiku wants to do.
