First of all , I suggest you go on YouTube and search for . " cowboy capitalist " .
it is about some white guys going to Africa to make money. Listen to The first 10 MN intro, That will help you understand why Africa is the last frontier .

1- Do you know that 6 or 7 out of 10 world fastest growing economies are in Africa as we speak ?
I was not aware of this myself until a friend who is risk manager at Goldman Sachs investment bank told me this . And I went to Google it.

2- As The world population keep growing exponentially , there is a pending food crisis pending .
Climate change is not a helping matter either because many land are becoming unfavorable and over used .
According to many expert , the solution is in Africa . We have the biggest , largest almost virgin lands for agriculture anywhere in the world. ( Please go listen to Ted radio hour . The big 5 challenges awaiting the world ) . Now ask yourself why the Chinese are all over the continent now trying to grab as many land as the can .

3- less competition , fewer regulation more relax environment. Etc..

I know this Lebanese guy who told me that he used to live in Nigeria when he was young.
His dad opened a candy factory and this is how he started making his fortune .
The Chinese , the Lebanese comes with nothing , and leave our shores millionaires .
When Donald Trump received African leaders he told them how he has many friends who became very rich doing businesses in Africa . Go see that video .

Now to be concrete . Just think outside the box . Don't try to copy what everyone is doing . Try to create solutions in your enviroments. Think big . Always be one step ahead . Money is all around you.

- don't sell that family acres of land just to travel abroad and do manual jobs.
Buy 2 or 3 tractors ( you don't have to farm like your grandfather did ) , build that autonomous irrigation system . Try to be like those rich American farmers .

- solar is another big thing . With all the sun we have you can create a little cooperative , install and supply electricity for your people for a monthly fee.

- you want to do poultry business ? Why not create your own small brand of fast food or KFC type at the side ?

- All those trash you see everywhere , do you know that there are system nowadays to transform it to home cooking gas ?

There has never been an administration this hostile towards immigrants. Different times.

See pipe dream. Everything na business,business,business. Not everyone is business inclined. She already said she tried doing business and failed miserably. The truth is if you don't have a "business" in naija you're mostly likely screwed. And business is really a code word for "just find something to do instead of being idle". You have people talking about all this untapped African potential, how one can make millions, blah..blah.. yet they're there in America. Why not comeback and grab all these millions ? It takes years for a business to get off the ground and start being extremely profitable. The truth is most businesses fail.

And people think if she lands in naija today, the person hosting here will continue to give her free food, shelter, etc ? Watch how fast that 3k she saved up goes. Then on top of that, things she didn't have to pay for in America like her kids school fees, she'll now have to start paying out of pocket. Despite being a single mother of 2, the truth is she's living better than most average Nigerians in Nigeria. That job she's working now under the table pays her on time and in dollars. She enjoys good road, constant electricity, police, running water, etc. That's all gone once you enter naija. And people keep on saying she doesn't have access to benefits in America. And what government benefits will she have when she lands in naija ?

I still say try the Canada route. If not, stay in America until your caught. Just keep on stashing your dollars.

I am 36 . I spent 20 years here , study here . Have a great career . No complain on that front ...
I might not know it all , but I have seen it or experienced it .

1- here , You are strictly on your own . The system itself have no soul and only care about money .
Your family members have their own bills and wahala to worry about . This is how children here abandon their elderly parents in nursing home and move on with their own life.

2- here , nothing really belong to you . Whatever you think you have , you can lose it anytime.
30 years mortgage . You finish paying . The minute you owe property tax , The municipality will take that house from you and sell it.
Years ago I rented a room to a lady in her 70 who used to own 2 houses. Lost the first one through bankrupcy . Second one due to sickness and she couldn't pay .

If you have big ambitions , Africa is where the untapped opportunities are right now.
The way my brothers kill themselves here working 2 , 3 jobs just to survive and pay bills ,
If they could apply the same energy and a bit of creativity many would have been billionaire in Naija.


As for you friend who is saving $3500 a month , ask him to borrow you $1000 only for emergency. Or 100 even .

3. How about the brothers who kill themselves and work 2/3 jobs yet haven't got paid in 6 moths ? I'm sure you're a U.S citizen. Why haven't you left to go make your billions in naija ?

4. If I made millions US per year, I wouldn't allow anyone (except my parents) to borrow 1k or 100 USD. Especially when there is billions which can be made easily in naija. lol. Go hustle your own. Whether one lends you money or not indicates their wealth ?

Thank you. I'm actually still open to both options. No my kids are not citizens and seeking Asylum is no longer available to me as if you want to seek Asylum, it has to be within your first year in the states. I'm past that already so I can't seek Asylum.
Just trying to weigh both options cos I don't want to move back now and regret it later.

Do that which feels right NOW
And, living in fear (eg of the future) ensures that your future gives you something to fear
If you are not happy in the US, and feel that you will be happier in Nigeria, move back home
With the expectation and confidence that you will be all right
What makes you so sure that by the time your kids are 18, that Nigeria and or other subSaharan African countries won’t have improved?
Even if not, what is it that makes you think that your kids would not fare okay in Nigeria?
US or Nigeria? Choose the one that makes you happy now.

I told him I left Nigeria years ago and I do visit from time to time and I have not seen any changes but rather the country is getting worse, I told him of most of my classmates from the University who went back to Nigeria after their studies in the West and most of them are suffering and regretting there decisions today, I see them in Nigeria, they chat with me all the time and I see there lamentations.

He stopped contacting and he moved back to settle in Lagos, to cut a long story short, After about 9 months in Nigeria, he called me and was lamenting over the phone, all the cash he took to Nigeria gone, he couldn't get a job, the series of businesses he established all grounded, robbers attacked him in his house and he was lucky enough to have jumped over his fence and escaped,he finally sold his house around Maryland and he vowed to me over the phone that he is not coming back to Nigeria again and that he prefers to die and be buried in Denmark, as I post, he is back to Denmark .

I've seen the same. Everyone I know who left the west for naija after school regrets it as well. And these people are/were well off with no kids. I can't imagine coming back with 2 kids and no job.

Thanks everyone for your contributions....with all the advice, I'm weighing both options to see which is best for me.
Truth is, I'm not even scared of being caught and deported at all cos the state where I am is kind of accommodating of people without documents especially when you have kids. Just trying to make my decision based on the long run; like should I keep going like this or should I just go back now that I'm not that deep deep in the system wasting my time.

Its just only 4yrs so the affect on them moving back to Nigeria is negligible but the longer you stay in US playing hide and seek with the system the difficult it becomes.

I can understand that you want the best for your kids by taking them to US but since it did not workout don't try to sneak in into another country to start afresh illegally all over again.

Save as much as you can and move back your kids will be fine and will have freedom and rest of mind.

At the age of 29 with two kids and a degree certificate you have a better future but not in US living illegally and wasting your years and certificate.

I have been reading all the comments here since and i think i understand what you are going through. Trust me most of immigrants in US have all been there before. Majority of Nigerians in US today legalized their stay in one way or another and this same set of people will be telling you to go home.
The question is what do you have back home to go to that will not make you to endure right now in order to secue you children future?
I don't know what State you are in right now but there is always a way even where seems to be no way.
I known people who are making more than $3k monthly here in US without the so called paper. It depends on the State, city, neighborhood and most especially your hustling spirit. The best gift you can give to your children right now is allow them learn and grow into the system here in US. Not everyone in high school and college are here legally.
I can only advise you move back to naija if you have enough savings like #10m already.

There is always an exception to every rule!

I know many people will come for this comment but even while in Nigeria, i make on average $1k monthly aside my well paying Job and a car I kept in uber than brings N120k/month (30k/week).

Nigeria will remain my abode. With the money in my account, I can go to any country because i can fund it but then, I prefer Naija. Not going to anywhere I will be spending money while my days are counted like those with prison sentence.

I wouldn't want my worst enemy to live overseas illegally. Try to save as much as you can, and go back home. In Nigeria, you may be penniless, but at least, you will have your family to support you. It's not like that overseas, it's every dog to his/her bone. If you are female, your landing in Nigeria will be somewhat smoother because you will always get someone to settle down with. However, in the worst case scenario, you can always move in with your mum or dad in Nigeria whilst looking for a job.
