Ya. Buratai's performance is B minus. That's better than all his predecessors including Ihejirika. He has actually kept the Nigerian Army units deployed all over the North East region..displacimg Boko Haram. There are consequences for equipment, logistics and air support and this is where he failed slightly. With the current deployment profile, we needed to have tweaked the type of ordnance and equipment that we maintain at the FOBs. The procedures also change in terms base protection, patrols and access controls. Buratai had not gotten round to this. He has also been too slow on Army Aviation and as someone said he has not played up the Nigerian Army strengths in artillery pieces and field guns. All succesful Boko Haram operations against N.A. bases can be blamed on leadership at that level - colonels, majors, captains and RSMs. I doubt NA even has RSMs any longer but we seem to be taking in too many babies into the Army these days. Babies who will post childish, inaccurate stuff on social media after running away from the enemy.

On the commentary coming from ordinary Nigerians about performance, I believe there is too much ignorance being displayed. People just don't know and they are arguing out of sentimental attachments to past governments. The Nigerian Army now has the reach and presence in parts of the AOR we never had during the last administration.

What Boko Haram is currently doing is being controlled globally. They are doing exactly the same thing that ISIS and Taliban are doing in Afghanistan - raiding distant army bases, stealing arms, melting away and then busting upon city centers killing civilians and running away again.
The difference is that they have been far more successful in Afghanistan than Nigeria. The Nigerian Army is going to to toe, bush to bush with terrorists while the US/Afghan forces only do major offensive campaigns and very few sporadic special forces attacks to interdict the terrorists. Taliban now controls probably 60% of Afghanistan. In Nigeria, Boko Haram control ZERO real estate but they will do occasional surprise attacks and melt away.

The COAS and CAS are in dangerous competition and rivalry and this is playing out in the field. We can preach from now till Christ comes about the benefits of cooperation but it's not going to happen short term.
The interim thing the Army can do is compensate for the occasional lack of response for air support by creative use of UAV guided mobile artillery.
The air force should stock up refurbished, night capable Alpha Jets in the interim that Super Tucano aircraft and JF 17(Block 2) are being awaited. They need to run mostly night operations to harass Boko Haram..this requires the acquisition of more ISR resources and quick mission planning when new BHT bases are discovered. The deployments of jets at Niger Republic border towns is a very good idea.

End of the day, one might get to the nadir supporting a system that doesn't seem to want to change for the better.

‪#HappeningNow: The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, was at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna today, 6 December 2018, for the combined graduation ceremony of various regiment courses including the Force Protection in Complex Air Ground Environment Course (FP-CAGE), Special Forces Instructors’ Course and Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR‬) Course.

A total of 769 offrs and airmen/airwomen successfully completed the various courses and would be deployed to the frontlines to beef up the strength of troops in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality, while also improving NAF Base Defence architecture.

‪As part of the ceremony, there were practical demonstrations by the graduating students of the various courses covering countering of low level air defence threat; insertion/extraction and CSAR exercise simulating the rescue of a downed pilot in a denied environment as well as an ambush denial drill. ‬

‪With assistance from British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) and Four Troop Team, NAF RTC has trained 2,251 FP-CAGE and SF personnel in the past 3 years, significantly boosting @NigAirForce force protection and SF capability in line with the capacity building initiatives of the CAS. Details later. ‬

Another improved model of the ARA MRAP destined for the Nigerian army.

Featured at IDEAS 2018 in Pakistan, this model shows a turret moved forward and roof top gun pots were soldiers can stand, pull security and shot from any direction.

Similar with what you have in a VAB APC and the Bushmaster MRAP from Australia.

I've seen a lot of people who don't like the Hornet for various reasons. Everyone is entitled to his opinion.

However in my opinion, i think the Hornet is one of the best Fast Intervention Vehicles i have seen anywhere in the world.

It's a good, solid, practical vehicle. The ease with which they can be deployed all the more makes it desirable.

It's troop carrying capacity is also such an advantage.

I reckon, 3 units should be able to fit into a C-130 at one go.

My only problem with it is, it's main turret can't go full 360 degrees.

But all the same a nice vehicle.

Nigerian Police in Mali

The vehicle behind is locally assembled in Nigeria.

The company making them is also offering them to the Nigerian army for troop transport.

It was displayed at the Nigerian army research and innovation summit 2018.

You can see it pictured in Nigerian army cammo. I don't yet know the vehicle's name.
