Thanks for the motivation, Please I would need materials to prep.

Thanks for the advise..

I think i need to drop my ielts story as I feel some people will motivated and get their desired score.

Background : I am not a lover of english bother professionally and in my day to day interaction. I failed 2 attempts of ielts writing through BC. So I figured out listening and writing were my major challenge, as I did not even practise well during those attempt.

Strategy : For my third attempt i registered with MOD given myself one month of preparation. Then i solved through the Cambridge 1-13 test. I must confess that is harder than the real exam.

I brushed up on other writing; using liz and Jay video.

Test day 12/01/2018 : I maintained 100% attention and was able to pick out the answer ( I will say this was partly due to a cool environment as we were just 21 candidate for the exam (IDP Kano).

For writing : task one was what i could relate to. I ensured i did not miss out any area on the outline of the task. For section 2, I notice i did not have vocabulary to start changing word but i did not miss any of this steps.

1. Define or recap the issue you were ask to talk about.

2. Take a clear position in summary or listing (supporting view, advantages etc)

3. Buttress on the one you not supporting in summary or listing (opposing view, disadvantages)

4. Pick out 2 and 3 and explain in details with examples.

5. Reaffirm you position ( conclusion).

This gave me a 7 in writing. I hope this can inspire someone not to give up .

It shall end in praise

Hi, to all those trusting God for victory over IELTS, don't give up. It's understandable how demoralizing low marks can be.
These tips might help:

1. If you're not naturally a good storyteller, then you have to make up different storylines at the back of your mind, that you can easily recall and use for your writing. Movies, TV shows, and even the News can help you. I remember during my test, we were asked to write a letrer to your city council about a historical place that has been abandoned and needs to be revived, and how to revive it or something like that. I then recalled once watching something on TV about Kontagora, the town where Nigeria's amalgamation was signed but no one remembers it now. There are some historical buildings and monuments in the town, but all are abandoned. So I wrote about Kontagora, how an amalgamation museum can be built there, a fund raising can be held for the project, and school children can visit on excursions. So, absorb as much info and stories as you can, they will help for Writing, and also for the speaking. Personal experiences are also an easy way out, don't be afraid of using things you've experienced if it fits the scenario.
Smile while speaking, it will calm you down.

2. Write with pencil, or an erasable pen if you are uncomfortable with pencil. There are many such pens in the market now. It will make your work easy if you want to change somethings.

3. Before writing, you could make an outline of your points at the back of the paper. It will help make your work sequential and well planned.

4. Use complex sentences, include linking terms.

5. For listening, all I can say is don't be distracted. All the answers will be mentioned in the audio, you can't afford to miss even one. It's very easy to get 9, it's also easy to get 6. Each mark counts.

6. Write in all CAPITAL LETTERS, to avoid missing an answer of case sensitive nature. Also be careful with spellings. Mining is not Minning.

Age is not on our side so every point counts. If the revaluation gives me 7 or 7.5 and my husband maxes out again (he is also considering revaluation tho. I am begging him to just redo the test) our a CSR will be 447/449 which increases our Chance of getting called asap.

Influential101:
@ Chicagomum, I'm curious as to why you want to remark your writing when you said your husband is the PA and will be rewriting IELTS because of his score in Listening...

Do you really need the additional 2marks you may get from remarking? ? You're an accompanying spouse and can only add two points if your writing changes to 7.

Guys this is my first time writing I’m so broken inside I don’t even know what to do again. Writing ielts for the 3rd time and still not making it is devastating. especially for the fact that I’m unemployed and I have to save the money everytime on my own. It’s really devastating.
1st try with BC. LRWS- 8.5, 6.5,7,8.5
2nd try with IDP LRWS- 7.5,8.0,6.5,8.5
3rd try with IDP LRWS: 8.5,6.5,6.5,8.5
This is demoralizing I have done my ECA since August just waiting on this IELTS and now I was really hoping this would be the last time but I can’t believe I have to continue this again next year. I prayed and prayed and I studied and studied still nothing. This is almost 300k wasted. Having to watch my friends that I even told about the program move on and get PPR and I’m still stuck here. lemme just stop typing I’ve been crying since morning.

Good evening house, please can my work experience during NYSC be used to apply for express entry as it falls in NOC A. My NYSC was 2014. I am actually working as a teller in the bank and tried asking for a reference letter ahead just to be sure the NOC I can choose but the duties listed is difficult to place in NOC O, A or B and HR is not ready to change any information? I am confused and don't know what to do?

There is a tip for being better at writing that I think needs to be shared on this thread;

Reading...

and I don't mean reading as a chore. I mean getting lost in a book, activating your imagination and enjoying the unfolding stories on paper, becoming emotionally invested in characters, hating, loving, laughing and crying.
Reading and writing are connected in such a way that you can't separate one from the other. All good writers are voracious readers, all good writers enjoy reading.

This is obviously not new information to anyone, but while reading, we get exposed to different writing styles, genres and voices. It helps in straightening our grammar, sentence structure and spellings (and does it subconsciously), it improves our powers of imagination and descriptive prowess which are invaluable for good writing.

Everyone has a particular genre of literature that appeals to them. Something they'll actually enjoy reading. It could be fiction, biographies, history, motivational books, religious books, academic research, poetry or comics. I think everyone should find their groove and embrace it. Not just for IELTS or the important life skill of good writing but also for enjoyment

@josefuadjr: I totally agree with u but with a holistic view & from testimonies we've read, the assertions is very close to the truth.
@ifeoma: you're very right ma, in fact in my last exam with MOD, there is this guy who sat adjacent to me, I tell u he can't construct a simple sentence correctly & you know what, he came to the hall just to disturb others & cheat. I had to give him a bad face b4 he left me alone. For my mind, I smiled & said u go write IELTS tire. He contacted me after his result was released & he had LRWS: 5.5, 4, 4, 5.5. That said, I will never subscribe that some1 who ace the other three components "beautifully" cannot pass Writing. No no no!
Let me add this funny one too, during my 2nd attempt, I met a lady during speaking test and her hubby decided to give me a ride. On our way, I discovered the wifey is d only one writing the test, I inquired from the hubby why he's not writing and he answered "God forbid,
I had masters in Architecture and I know my worth, I cannot allow one IELTS be disgrace me cos I can't imagine myself writing it and in the end they told me I failed(lol)". He said his wife & kid shld go while he will be visiting them.

Evening all,

I need a quick clarification re dates of validity for medical certificates and I presume for police reports as well.

Just noticed that the status on our application has moved form “Medicals Passed” back to “you do not need a medical exam”

Our AOR is Feb 22nd, so going on 10 months now. (Yes, yes, I know )

The logical explanation is that, this is because of our medical reports that expired on 13th Dec. The “hopeful” one is that it’s a “ghost update” and the PPR is round the corner.

I’d like to know if one needs to go do a new set of Medicals or is there a chance that they will use their “church” mind and extend the validity of the medical certificate

Same situation with Police Report..do we need to start getting new ones?

Thanks as you answer...

A fellow matured mind

The University system is different from other general companies and banks as advised.

In my humble opinion (IMHO), I verily believe that a university don in the capacity of an HOD/Dean can issue you your reference letter and it will fly with CIC. If I were in your shoes, I won't break a sweat.

Universities dons are respected world over and their references (even in their personal capacities much less as a Dean/HOD) are not taken lightly in most institutions around the world.

It will end in praise IJN!

Thank you sir.

If not because of that your name I for just say go to page 1.

Mayweather prepares well for his fight thats why he is The Floyd we all admire. Pardon my directness.

Since you have CRS of 457.

Enter the pool as single. get your ITA as single and submit your application as single.

Please dont put your fiance ( i now she is very beautiful) Dont allow IELTS stain her beauty.

SO after you submit your application as a single which i expect should be before your wedding.

Then get married afterwhich you raise a Case Specific Enquiry with CIC that me oo my name on NL is @FloydMayWeatherthefake and i have just got married.

Them CIC would now request for documentation for your wife (marriage certificate, her passport and Medicals and PCC and also updated POF documentation too among other things.

So thats it.

She wont need IELTS or ECA because once u submit like that your application CRS would be locked and wont be recalculated on ground of marriage.

Je m'appelle floydmayweatherRamj

I have been hearing this advice a lot, about applying before marrying to get PPR for both spouses, obviating the need for ECA, IELTS. If this is completely true, it saves a whole lot.
But I want someone who has done this and got PPR for his or her dependent spouse to confirm if the Visas issued to both of them were exactly the same (Permanent Residency Visas). One thing is getting PPR, but another thing is what visas were stamped in their both passports.

Someone please educate us o, before people enter one chance, and at the end of the day their partners are given something like a 'Visiting Visa/Spousal Visa or something like that, pending when the partner can apply themself as Primary applicant (don't forget that in that CRS tool, there is a place where they ask if your spouse is a Canadian Permanent Resident or a Canadian citizen).

The reason I am asking is that, if it is not the same 'Permanent Residency Visa' that is given to the dependent spouse at the end of the day (of course we know the benefits of being a PR as opposed to other visas), then it is better for a dependent fiance(é) to do all the necessary ECA and IELTS and marry the Principal applicant before the latter applies.

Am I making sense?

I don't think you have to be a good reader to excel in writing. But like you rightly said, good imaginative abilities are essential in writing: you should be a good thinker, and for exam conditions, a fast thinker. I hate reading in fact, but my IELTS score for writing was above 7 at first attempt. How did I achieve this? I did because I could reason fast, rapidly bring out elaborate thoughts no matter the question I was asked(during my practice sessions), and convey my thoughts in writing, observing good grammar and punctuation. For writing skills, I even feel being good in speaking gives a better edge than being good in reading.

Speaking and writing are simply two different ways of expression. So the way you express yourself when you talk(that is, if you speak well), then express yourself with your pen on a paper, but displaying good punctuation skills so that the reader/examiner makes sense of your work(for example, using fullstop for long pause, comma for short pause, exclamation mark for exclamations, question marks for questions, colons when you want to list subcategories of an item, semicolons, hyphens, dashes, quotation marks, brackets, parenthesis, and so on).

My key for excelling in IELTS writing is to be able to think fast, and clearly, bringing out your points for the task quickly, and expressing your thoughts in good grammar, and of course know some other basic rules of writing essays.

One very important way to prepare for IELTS is to simulate the exam. In your practice, as much as possible, do all 3 parts of the exam (Listening, Reading and Writing) at a go, in strict timing condition, like you would during the real exam. Doing this severally helps you with your mental endurance, which is vital especially in writing where most people are usually fatigue. In my preparation, after I felt I was ready for the exam, I did such exam simulation six times before the D-day. So on the exam day, people may have seen me like it was my first attempt, but within me, it was my 7th attempt (just that the previous 6 times I didn't give BC/MOD my money), and you know, naturally, people get better after many attempts.

All the best to those who are still to get their required IELTS scores.

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging words. I'll do as advised. I'll remark writing and speaking to increase my chances of refund.

It's quite unfortunate that it's only BC conducting IELTS where I reside. An alternate body would have been considered.

I'll start the process as soon as I receive my TRF.

I'll keep the house updated.

My husband wrote yesterday's exam. I'm praying he does better so our chances can increase.

Thanks once more.
