Yes. And study software engineering. Worldwide, computer science is mainly about algorithms and mathematics. I've checked Berkley, Mit, Stanford and covenant university curricula and they are the same.

The reason people learn programming in foreign computer science departments isn't because teachers will teach you - no!

It's the environment. You'll meet guys who already know how. You'll have guys running companies right in school. And best of all you'll have ultra fast unlimited internet to learn.

Nigerian private schools especially Covenant fails the environment criteria because of their cage. Your time is tightly controlled, ability to collaborate with the outside world is severely limited. So you're dependent on what your lecturers can teach - not much.

Long story short. Travel out of you can afford it. No Ghana's not much better. I also schooled there. SA's the minimum.

I don't know about Covenant university. But from what I heard from people it seems that the have a good standard (quality education). But the bitter truth is almost all the federal and state universities don't have the capacity to teach computer science. It's surprising to know that many of the computer science lecturers in Nigeria cannot code in any modern programming languages. Computer science in Nigeria is more theory and old outdated theory/programming language are what you will learn from your lecturers. I studied computer science in Nigeria from one of the Federal university of Technology. But it was a wasted 5 years, because we learned only theory. It was not until I moved to abroad to go back to university to study computer science as undergraduate, even though I have B.tech in computer science(2nd class upper) from Nigeria. I am happy that I was able to humble myself to go back to study comp science again as undergraduate in abroad. I have graduated and currently works as a Full Stack Developer. The summary of my writing is:

If you have the means to study abroad, then move to abroad and study computer science, cos you will learn a lot to become a software developer or web developer.

If you don't have the means, then Covenant university might not be a bad Choice. I guess they are the best in 9ja.

But if you end up in any Federal or State university, all hope is not lost. You can self taught your self by enrolling in online tutorials like Udemy, Lynda, etc.

Do covenant produce good employees? Yes. Why? Cos they've been trained to sit and wait for orders. They dress very well (responsibly) - part of the training. Their arts / commercial degree holders would be definitely above average. However, their engineering/science degrees IMO's worthless.

My pal who made an electric car while in covenant didn't learn it from school. His professors didn't understand squat a small part of the car he presented for his final year project.

What part did he present? He called it Variable voltage, variable frequency controller and his lecturers were awed during his presentation. Could not ask a single reasonable question. You know what this VVVF thing is? A giant rotor - just that you can use software to control the speed of the motor.

For employable purpose, you can't do worse than covenant. But if you want to learn programming, Babcock, even futo's better.

My advice? Just do one random simple course. Graduate with first class or 2nd upper with ease. On the side, learn programming online.
