"Tithing"- The Accurate Teaching The Bible Gives. by Nobody: 1:42am On Jan 06, 2019
"TITHING" - THE ACCURATE TEACHING THE BIBLE GIVES.

One major controversy in the Church today is "Tithing",especially over the last decade. While some have stuck to the conservative teaching over the years of "Tithing", "Robbing God", "the Devourer", etc, others have faulted the act of paying a 10% to "God" before "He" rebukes a "devourer", more so many have just concluded not to pay a 10% of their hard earned income to a "Man of God" who they believe ends up using these monies for his personal gains. But amidst all these, not many have taken time to know what GOD Himself has to say about this subject, and which other place should be visited than THE BIBLE itself.

Firstly, what exactly is "Tithe"?
Tithe simply means " a tenth", it then depends on a tenth of whatever you're talking about.... It could be a tenth of properties, food items, clothes, money, etc. Having understood that, it should be clearly stated that "Tithe" is not akin to money.

Below are 4 places in the Bible that show Tithing has nothing to do with the New Creation in Christ.

1. Tithing was never money in the first place, the Bible clearly states what tithing is in
Deuteronomy 14:22
"Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. 14:23 And thou shalt EAT before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always. 14:24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: 14:25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: 14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, 14:27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee. 14:28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: 14:29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest."

In connection to the above scripture, it's clear that Tithing was the Israelites bringing their produce to the House of God TO EAT a tenth of it and also give to the priests a part of the tenth as taking care of the priests because the priests had no inheritance in Israel, it was God's responsibility to take care of them, and the tithe was a programme God used to take care of the priests and not just to only take care of the priest, but also to create a "clan bond" with the "Israelites and the Priests" in connection with the House of God because they came to eat a tenth of their produce in the House of God... so tithing was for eating and giving a part of the food to the priests. It was not bringing money to the Priests, it was never money, and even Malachi3:10 that's frequently used in harassing the Church members, clearly shows God meant food not money
Malachi 3:10 "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be MEAT in mine house,... "
So the first thing to know TITHE in the Bible was FOOD not Money
Food to be eaten in God's House shared also with the Priests.

Secondly, Tithing was in the Law, and the Law has been abolished.... After the resurrection of Christ, the Law was buried and Grace came into the scene.... We don't live under the Law anymore but under Grace
Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."

And if you think that well, Abraham was the first to give a tenth of what He had to a priest and that was not even during the Law, you should also know that the time Abraham gave it was also a period of "grace" as well, because there was no law mandating Him to give a tenth to the Priest whose name was Melchizedek(Gen14:20). Abraham could have chosen to give 20%, 50%, or even all He got from the war, but He gave "AS HE WAS INSPIRED" to give. Meaning it was up to Abraham.... In the New Testament today, giving is up to you, you can choose to give whatsoever you want to the House of God, you are not mandated to give a tithe, as Paul said (Let every man give liberally, as he chooses for God loves a cheerful giver) 2Cor9:7

Thirdly, You cannot give Tithes and not fulfill the other parts of the Law... Tithing is a part of the Law, and the Bible says He who breaks one part of the Law has broken all of the Law(James2:10). If you believe in giving your tithe, then you must also keep the feast of booths, weeks, Passover, jubilee and many others the Israelites obeyed as part of the Law. You cannot just take out Tithes and probably First Fruits and ignore the rest. The Bible says you'd be during the wrong thing, because the Law must be obeyed to the full, and since that was never possible, God had to send Jesus to come fulfill the Law on our behalf, so we won't have to fulfill it anymore and thereby, create the passage to the Father, and saying "IT(the Law) IS FINISHED(fulfilled)"...Also, the parable Jesus gave on not mixing old wineskins with new wine and old wine with new wineskins (Mt9:17) symbolizes "the Law and Grace" they can't be mixed together.

Finally, the fear of the curse Pastors usually terrorize their members with in Malachi 3:10 is a hoax, because "He that God has blessed no man can curse", not even God Himself will curse a Man He has blessed... and the Bible says in Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath BLESSED US WITH ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus".... So having understood that in Christ you are blessed, why should you believe a curse in the old Testament that has absolutely nothing to do with you?
If you must live the life of Christ, you must know who you are in Christ. Make up your mind to study God's Word for yourself with the help of the Holy Spirit so He'd guide you into all truth.

N:B- This is not a call to Christians to be tight fisted, No!.... Giving is important. Giving is good. Giving carries blessings, as a matter of fact there are some depths of God you might not know until you're a giver. But Giving in the New Testament is a function of Liberality, you give as you desire and are led not as a law...
Next time you sit with someone who suffers from this ignorance, be kind enough to shed the truth that makes free to such a person. God's People most times suffer for the lack of knowledge. Be a knowledge bearer.
God bless you.
Happy Sunday!!! smiley

We're still talking about a tenth when the early Christians gave much more than that
Re: "Tithing"- The Accurate Teaching The Bible Gives. by Nobody: 2:44am On Jan 06, 2019
Lol.....Pastors have really suffered in the hands of members...they use hellfire and misfortune to threaten you tithe payers to pay...but the same hellfire and misfortune they use as a consequence of sin has not stopped u people from fornicating and pornographyy and lies and the likes...oshiii odánlé pakó....
You people better stand up to ur government to fix the nation so the church will really perform it main function "a moral compass to the people" and not a place people go to to ask for miracle money, miracle money.

if according to OP the law has been abolished, then will be bad if I disobeyed any of the laws like stealing, killing, and severing strange gods?

If Jesus in Mathew 23:23 didnt did em it fit to explicitly or openly abolish it then it isn't abolished. Tithe is very much alive.

If we because because pastors are living well then it means they are using our tithe carelessly and that warrants the stopping of tithe, then we might as well stop other things like charity because not everybody you do charity for uses it for productive thing's.

TWO REASONS:
1. Jesus lived in the old Testament and not until He died and resurrected did "The New Testament " come about. Didn't Jesus eat the Passover with them which was according to the Law?, and do we in the Body of Christ eat Passover?.... Jesus said "you SHALL KNOW the truth, and the truth shall make you free.." meaning there were certain truths not even yet revealed even while He was still alive but would have to be after His death and resurrection "

2. The place you're sighting Matthew 23:23 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.".....
its very shallow and "dishonest" for someone to draw "Tithing " as a subject from this, the major message Jesus passed here was the inhumane character of the Pharisees, He reflected on their act of Tithing and not keeping the more important things of the, Law like "Faith, judgment, mercy.. "meaning He was addressing and correcting their character, He pointed out they tithe but yet are not better people... Shouldn't that let you know the communication Jesus is bringing??.....

More so, did you hear where Jesus said not keeping the most important things of the Law??.... still means that Tithing is the law as we've maintained and the Law has been abolished.

1. Tithing was never money in the first place,

It's so sad that people who have never read the Bible from cover to cover and only open it once in 3 months are now claiming to be knowledgeable concerning tithing. Who told you that tithing was never money? Who told you that everything about tithing was established only in the mosaic law and not before it?

Tithing is clearly 10% of ALL your increase. Abraham gave a tenth of ALL, and all means all, this includes money, gold, agricultural produce and any increase you get.

Genesis 14:20
And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of ALL.

The Pharisee in Jesus parable gave a tenth of ALL that he possessed. That likely included Money as well because all means all, and all is what all means. Don't subtract from all.

Luke 18:12
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of ALL that I possess.

The book of Proverbs which is a book that encompasses the old testament and new testament also said we should honor God with our substance and with the first fruits of ALL our increase. ALL is also mentioned here which means ALL. This means if we get any monetary increase, i.e a new month's salary, we are to honor God with the first fruit of it which is 10%.

Proverbs 3:9
Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of ALL thine increase:

Even Jacob when he promised to tithe, he didn't say it is only agricultural produce he was going to give to God. Notice how he said if God will give him BREAD and RAINMENT to out on, he will give him ten percent of it. That shows that tithing also included raiment which goes in line with ALL as used above. Or is raiment also agricultural produce?

Genesis 28:20-22
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the L ORD be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

U people always quote scriptures to suit ur explanation...u know how to use the death and resurrection of Jesus as a reference of what is to be abolished..please tell me why Jesus could forgive sins even though he had not paid the ultimate price on the cross?
Don't assume what Jesus didn't say...I don't care if u pay ur tithe or not...but what Jesus said clearly in Matt 23:23 to the Pharisees is that u can't leave other important thing and start shouting tithe..... he never said giving tithe wasn't important....or stop it
If Jesus didn't care about how much we gave..e won't rate the widow's higher than the giving of other rich men that gave out of abundance....we just keep overflogging this tithe issue...people will come and say it's crop they give in those days as tithe..
The era when most people farm is gone..some people now make casket...will the person carry casket to church as a way of giving...

Jesus highlighted the flaws of the Pharisees by telling them about more weightier matters but never cancelled tithe. It was a reordering of the list and not cancellation of it.

So of I earn money as a banker or technician I must buy mint and Cummings to pay tithe. didn't the OT say we can sell the goods and pay money.

Even those quoting Matthew 23 v 23 can see that Jesus spoke on tithing of agro-produce...mint, anise and cummin.

Later on, we could see that Judas betrayed Jesus for some pieces of silver.

Read your Bible, the condition on which you can sell your tithe for money and buy it back is...

"If the place of worship is too far for thee"

Or would you prefer I quote it for you?

Oh...so you now know more than God who gave the instructions on how to tithe?

By the way, was it tithe that was used to run the early church?

It is a big shame you are confusing irrelevant scriptural facts for valid argument. In Mathew 23:23 Jesus only reordered that list containing tithe by putting the other items above tithe but didn't remove tithe at any point. Tithe idea can from God to Israelites in the old testament and Jesus only stressed the importance of other thing the pharisees where putting tithe ahead of.

As for the early church, everyone's needs were met through freewill giving. Examples of these were shown in;

Acts 4 v 32-37;
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

When Paul was also admonishing the Corinthian church on how to give in order to meet the needs of other churches;

2 Corinthians 9 v 7;

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver

In the Old Testament, this was where God precisely asked for money to finance the needs of the Temple; This was not tithe, but a fixed amount levied on all male Israelites from age 20 and above

Exodus 30 v 13-16
13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.

14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the Lord.

15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.

16 And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.

This clearly shows you how money was raised to maintain the Temple. And this requirement was specifically for the men of Israel.

This guy keeps hammering on free will giving, yet he didn't give one penny last year. If the church was depending on him, it would have closed down since. grin

Prove to everyone here that I never gave a penny to the church.

To address your ignorance, the maintenance of the Temple in the Old Testament was through a monetary levy imposed by God on Israelite males aged 20 and above. It was never through tithes (which was foodstuff eaten by the tithers, levites, widows and strangers)

Exodus 30 v 13-16
13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.

Despite reading this, I wonder how someone would conclude that tithes were used to finance the maintenance of the temple. Talk less of financing the church...even where there is no scriptural evidence to prove this!

And what is my reward for publicly broadcasting how much I gave to the church or to the needy?

If you really read this part of the Bible, then you should know it's not even Christlike to ask this manner of question;

Matthew 6 v 2-4;

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
