I'm guessing yes sha.

Thing is on a normal day, WhatsApp itself also needs to be reworked.

I can't really blame MIUI entirely. Many other ppl handling WhatsApp TV do complain about this issue of WhatsApp misbehaving.

Have you tried logging in your WA on higher end devices?
Do they perform the same way? Or better than how your Redmi handles it?

The fact is all phones refresh apps, but u can be using 3 apps or more without refreshing. That's just it. If the app is so important to you, lock it. It won't refresh.

Right now, I have over 18 apps opened on the multitasking window and I have not experienced a single lag.

You can also check other folders and delete accordingly. Just leave the last backed up file
