Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa in her reaction to President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar’s absence at the Presidential Debate has said the PDP candidate should have shown up for Nigerians.

According to her, Atiku could have just focus and sold his agenda to Nigerians and not get himself bothered about other candidates that refused to show up

She tweeted;

Atiku could have seen this as an opportunity, focus on your focus, ignore who decides not to show up and show up for Nigerians #PresidentialDebate2019

— Toke Makinwa (@tokstarr) January 19, 2019

And one of her followers replied:

I doubt if Atiku can stand the heat on that stage. He needed someone else to come last. Wow, We just went back to the classroom, so much wisdom being spewed from the best brains of Nigeria.

A debate is supposed to be between the champion and the challengers, if the champion fails to show up then the contest is just void and aimless, there was nothing spectacular about yesterday's debate, it even looked like a mere political campaign, nobody tackled each other and all, talk is cheap, i believe the vice presidential debate was way better though

Your defence is baseless. The presidential election is the contest. The debate is an avenue for each candidate to sell themselves and tell us why we should vote for them. So if Buhari withdraws from the election Atiku will do the same?

Buhari not showing up should have been an open goal for Atiku to capitalise on if he really had something to say. I guess he didn't have any thing to say to his atikulators. All he cares about is for his hands to get into the treasury so him and his friends can empty it just as he has already said just days ago

A debate is an ARGUMENT between two or more persons giving opposing views about a topic or a situation.. This election is clearly between APC and PDP whether you like it or not that's the reality, if Atiku had joined the debate it would have been a political error, the APC would have watched him closely and looked for faults so they would use it to campaign with as they are known for campaigning with propaganda.

It goes to show you that he's not campaigning because he wants to help Nigeria out of this mess, but he's just competing with Buhari and APC. We are all pawns in their game. Another candidate with childish motives.

It's a debate, not an argument. You go and defend your policies and address the nations about your plan. It's not a beer palour argument.

If your opponent doesn't show up and you take the stage, you can completely and utterly destroy your opponent since he's not there to defend himself. This was a golden opportunity and he folded like a man with no substance.

All these mad people defending Buhari are all stupid.

How can a sitting president run away from presidential debate and you insist others who are to challenge him in the debate to show up?

WHO DID YOU EXPECT ATIKU TO CHALLENGE OTHER THAN BUHARI?

Stop the insults and use your brain. First of all no sitting president in Nigeria has gone for such debate. Secondly, Atiku didn't just realise Buhari wasn't coming for the debate. He already said beforehand that he wasn't going to show up. But Atiku still took his bath, dressed up, got into his car, wasted his fuel to the venue, then turned round and went back home. All in an attempt of a stupid publicity stunt which backfired.
