The official handing over and commissioning of the newly built basketball and volleyball courts held on Monday, 28th January, at the headquarters in Abuja.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, who commission the two courts was flanked by the Chairman of Sports Committee of the university, Prof. Nebath Tanglang.

Other members of the committee: Mr John Ubaji, Mal Isa Shehu, Mr Kazeem; Dr. Adewale Adesina, Mal. Ibrahim Sheme, and Mr Jidda Dakwal, who is also the NOUN Head Coach, were present to witness the epoch-making ceremony.

DVC academic, Prof. Joy Eyisi, DVC administration, Prof. Prof. Victor Adedipe, and the Registrar, Mr Felix Edoka, were also present.

Prof. Tanglang, chairman of the Sports Committee, while giving his remarks stated that the VC didn't think twice when it came to approving the two courts.

“The VC is not only born again, but sanctified when it comes to sports in the university, being someone who initially wasn't a sport man”

He thanked the VC for his supports to sports in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor while responding to the chairman’s remarks stated that NOUN's hosting of 2016 NUSSA GAMES in Kaduna was the first time he was entering a stadium.

“Suddenly I found myself in the National Open University and I said I should not allow my personal prejudices to sport to affect them. If they say they love sport, so be it”

He stated that three others recreational activities are in the pipeline; theater building, viewing centre at the media building, as well as the complete recreational centre, approved by the Council. A full recreation centre, with full gymnastics facilities will also be included.

“Our sports men and women are in demand, we keep getting letters from ministries demanding different players to participate in national events”

He states that sports is part of advocacy for NOUN and the purpose for it is to make sure that NOUN is part of a community. “It is about cooperation, spirits of being together, about friendship”

He stated that he is proud of the achievements of NOUN sports men and women and proud that the university has these facilities.

“We will continue to participate at every sport competition in the country. We will continue to expand those facilities”

Deans, Heads of unit, and a host of other sports loving senior staff and others were in attendance.

It is noteworthy, however, to know that a brand new football pitch as well as a garden (to serve as a chilling point) works are ongoing at the headquarters.

The Regional Training & Research Institute for the Distance & Open Learning (RETRIDOL) held a workshop on Gender Sensitisation for Higher Education Institutions in Nigeria on Tuesday, 29th January, 2019.

It held in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), with representatives from ECOWAS, NUC and dual mode universities in the country.

The workshop was a train-the-trainer workshop, in that participants were expected to go back to rub what they learned off other colleagues in their respective institutions.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, while declaring the workshop open, urged participants to feel at home as NOUN is the best place for trainings.

He said with 5 deans out of the university's 8 faculties being women, NOUN is in the position to host the gender event.

He said gender mainstreaming, however, ought to start from homes by avoiding segregation regarding the children in all forms.

Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide has conferred an award of excellence in Professional Ethics in State Services, on the Director, Ibadan Study Centre, Prof. Mercy Ogunsola-Bandele.

The Islamic group, which over the years, has continued to monitor the activities of corporate organisations, societies and individuals in the areas of community service and nation building, beamed its searchlight on the activities of the Ibadan study centre and concluded that, Bandele deserved the honour in leadership and integrity.

Bandele, who expressed gratitude to the group, said she was surprised such honour could be bestowed on her inspite of the religious difference.

She, however, dedicated the award to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, whom she described as the reformer of the new NOUN.

This is to notify the general public and the New students /Returning students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) that the management of the NOUN University has released the New NOUN TMA Timetable (Timeline) with the New Guidelines and TMA Opening date / Closing date for the 2019 Tutor-marked Assignment exercise.
According to this Noun TMA timetable;
1st NOUN TMA submission will start on Friday 8th, March 2019.

2nd NOUN TMA submission will start on Friday 22nd March 2019.
3rd NOUN TMA submission will Start on Friday 5th April 2019.

NOUN TMA Guidelines 2019
All Students can only read and do their TMAs. No printout this time.
Only a TMA will be available to a student at a time following the TMA timelines provided. This means that no TMA is open-ended. You must do your TMA within that period or risk a zero mark for your TMA.

You must attempt TMA and exams to receive an end of semester grade for every course registered, this is a standard rule for the university.
Ideally, a student should pass both TMA and exams to receive a pass mark for the course. Therefore, students should endeavor to do their TMA themselves as TMAs prepare students for their final examinations.
A student is expected to study the course materials, do TMAs and assignments in the course materials before attempting the online TMAs. Therefore, one (1) question will pop up at a time for the student to attempt before the next question will pop-up. Where the student is not able to attempt, for example, question 1, he/she could click ‘NEXT’ to move to question 2 and so on.

There are three TMAs per each course registered by a student, a student is expected to attempt all. Each TMA has 10 test items(1-10)
