Compliments of the season to all.

Wow, 2018 is finally drawing the curtain on us. It was indeed a busy and groundbreaking year for me I must confess, I had the best of time in my agricultural exploration, ranging from my;

1. 1 hectare farm
2. My goat farm
3. My backyard garden.

It was all a success (well, except for that cucumber saga).

Nevertheless, as the year leaves me just two days before calling it quit, I intend doing a quick land preparation on my garden (where it all started). I would be clearing the land and pouring manure all over in preparation for my next planting season. (Ofcos, tomatoes never misses my list cheesy. )

It wasn't much of a of problem though. But, growing cucumber organically could pose a challenge especially if you want to comply 100% organic methods. Dealing with fungi is a major challenge!!! And that is it for me. I had to spend virtually every day applying my organic home made products and it was quite tiring and tasking.

Count down begins and less than 48hours to 2019 (though time concept itself is an illusion).

As earlier state, decided to give my garden a facelift into the new year since I'm most home for the holidays. Did a couple of ground clearing this morning (chai... I have become so lazy, couldn't even clear quarter a plot), Hoping to finish up in the evening. By the way, church was dope!!!

Made some heaps, applied manure again to the cleared ground. Should make some beds if I still little energy in me before the sunset.

I also nursed some tomato seeds (I don't plan doing much tomato planting next year though. Hoping to break new grounds). Likewise, some green vegetables were also nursed.

Which I had people to bless with this pods of mine. Got this after removing old fluted plants from last two years. Sold some at the rate of N500 per pod. After clearing this morning, all these ones surfaced again cry

Happy New Year to all,

Yea, we made it. cool
Can't wait to start the exploits. 2019 is going to be legit!!! And to start the year, let me get some fluted pumpkin into the ground while I await the sprouting of my nursed tomato seeds.

Quite small, just about 36 seeds in all from the pod.

UGU SEEDS/PODS AVAILABLE FOR SALE
The dry season is here and this is another opportunity to make huge income from ugu farming. With a source of water, viable seeds and basic farming knowledge, you are in for a huge income. The beautiful thing is that the small piece of land at your backyard can fetch you much more than you can imagine.

We sell good quality ugu seeds with 90% emergence. In case you are new in the business, here are some tips for setting up ugu farm:

1. Land preparation: this should be as thorough as possible; debris packed and disposed or burnt off.

2. Ridging: this will help soften the land and enhance good root penetration and proper plant development. You can also make use of growing
bags.

3. Seeds: about 1200 ugu seeds will suffice for a plot of land.

4. Soil fertility: soil can be augmented using poultry manure.

5. Planting should be properly done to ensure germination and emergence.

6. Weeding: this should be done regularly as weeds compete with the young plants and also harbour some harmful insect pests.

7. Pest management: When the environment is tidy, it helps to reduce pest population significantly. Biological pesticides can be administered in
case of pest attacks, appropriate chemical fertilizers should be administered only in severe cases of pest infestation.

8. Harvest: Harvest should begin 40 days after planting. From a plot of ugu farm you should conveniently harvest up to 250kg
to 300kg or more at peak (about 7 - 8 big sacs of ugu leaves) per harvest. Harvest interval is 15 days. Note: each of the big sacs sell
for 8,000 to 10,000 or more during dry season; the price halves during the rainy season.

9. Regular fertilizer application will help ensure you continue to have top quality yield.

10. Irrigation:this should be done regularly and sufficiently.

For your best quality ugu seeds, kindly call or whatsapp Tunde: 07037153550, 09020829810 or oderindeolufisayo@gmail.com

For now, just limiting myself to my garden farm till I secure another land around lusada axis for major projects.
Nevertheless, only fluted pumpkin, Green and trial cucumbers will be worked on at home. So far, so good.

Day 71: Garden Update (Corn first Harvest)

It's been awhile since I last updated on my garden activities. Lol. Well, so far so good, aside for the last loss I suffered with regards to my tomato plants due to heavy downpour of rain, everything has been going on fine.

The corns did perfectly well. @seun, I didn't have to use any insecticides or inorganic chemicals at all. The Vegetable oil did wonders. (Pictures included)

The tomato plants I was able to mulch did very well compared to the ones I didn't. (Now I knw better)

The cabbage is just wooaaah. Doing just fine. (Spraying with homemade neem leave/seed mixtures daaailllly, can't afford insect eating my precious)

And the cucumbers are very much visible on the vines.

The tomato plants in sacks are also doing excellently well to my surprise. The average height of the tomato is about 50 - 60 cm.
Sir I was surprise that your maize was ready for harvest in 71 days. Did you plant hybrid or normal seed?

Thanks for quick respond! Please I want to know if I will be applying pesticide and fungicide in the maize farm. I have not planted hybrid before. My fear and worry is that "I think hybrid attract pests and fungi" But the local yellow seed I am use to take 4 months to harvest. Although there is no need for pesticide and fungicide application. Each plant carry 1 fruit. Please sir, I will be glad if you can enlighten me about hybrid seeds and management.

Hybrids varieties are fast-growing, high yielding, and disease-resistant but you must first and foremost put into consideration what planting season you intend to plant; early season planting varieties differs from what is recommended for late season planting. And, like a friend advised me, also go for varieties accepted in your locality (market).

on pesticides? yes, you would have to deal with that (I only do organic but that will pose an issue if you are thinking large scale farming). Most issues are pest related though.

Garden Updates

Well, the INEC postponement of the 2019 Presidential election was a big shocker to me, but then again, everything is expected in Nigeria's political hemisphere.
Nevertheless, it gives me opportunity to spend time on my garden. The tomatoes seedlings are 13days today. Doing marvelously well. The target remains 300 stands grin. Yes, I intend to pull that off just inside my garden.

Enjoy the view. cool
