Thanks for the story, I started this evening
Re: Lost in Lust [A story by Toyin Olorunsola] by FrankAkowe: 6:17am On Jan 28, 2019
I resumed work on Monday morning at the Lekki office. Tinu, madam’s secretary asked how the trip was and hoped it was not tedious.

I smiled at her. ‘No, it was not tedious,’ I answered. But there was something about Tinu’s tone I could not discern.
Madam and I went on with our business as if nothing ever happened. By mid-day, I received a text message that instantly made me become alarmed.

Stop messing with another man’s wife or you will pay dearly for it.

I read it again and wondered who could have sent it. Had Naomi known about it and she was just acting as if she didn’t know? I had to think of her first because I remembered vividly that she warned me at the outset of the relationship that there would be dire consequence if I should cheat on her. I shook my mind. I didn’t think Naomi would know and bottle it up even for one hour.

Then I thought of Big Mummy’s husband. B.M had expressed the fact that the relationship between them was at its hostile peak. She had said she was tired of it and she wanted out. Could it be the man had found out that I was the one giving succor to his wife and had decided to deal with me? But then, how did he know my number?

I looked at the text message again and was really alarmed. I had never received such a threat in my life and my mind said I should take it seriously. I decided to call the number used in sending the text, but the attempted call could not get through. I then called B.M.

‘Good day, madam. Hope all is well.’

‘Good to hear your voice, Ola. How’re you?’

‘I’m not fine. In fact, I’m in fear.’

‘What happened?’ she asked, panic in her voice.

‘I just received a text message warning me to desist from following you or I will pay dearly.’

‘You don’t mean it.’

‘I do, and certainly, the text is explicit.’

‘Oh, God.’ There was a pause. ‘Alright. Don’t panic. When we meet later at the guest house this evening, we’ll talk about it.’

‘Okay.’

‘Don’t worry, you hear?’

‘Alright.’

I tried not to worry, but part of my mind kept giving me the warning signal. Later, after closing, I went to our meeting place. This time around,
she came before six o’clock.

I showed her the text message. ‘Who could have sent this message?’ she asked.

I shrugged. ‘Honestly, I don’t know.’

She thought for a while. ‘Alright, copy the number on a paper. I’ll take it to the police commissioner tomorrow morning for prompt
investigation.’

I nodded.

‘There’s no need to worry, baby boy.’

I tried to smile. We chatted a bit more, during when she revealed that she would be travelling to Abuja the following day and might not be back
until Friday.

‘We’ll likely see on Friday here when I return,’ she said.

We soon parted and I returned to my Isawo residence. Tuesday morning was hectic at the depot as many oil tankers were around to load fuel. I
worked hard till we closed at five p.m. I drove the car with the stream of traffic. It was few minutes after seven when I got home. It was dusk
and darkness was gradually taking over the terrain. I stopped the car at the gate and got down to unlock and open the gate.

It was then I noticed that a car had followed me and two men had got down. One of them pointed the gun at me. The street was almost
deserted, and in any case, there was nothing I could do against the two men. Not with one of them holding a gun. They gestured that I should
enter my compound, which was equally deserted.

Robbers? Thieves? Kidnappers? Who were they?

The one with the gun dug it at my right ribs, while the second man brought a handkerchief out. It was stuffed to my nose for several seconds. I felt sleepy and dizzy at the same time. My body went down. I tried to struggle but my strength deserted me. I slumped on the ground and became oblivious of things going on.

My body went down. I tried to struggle but my strength deserted me. I slumped on the ground and became oblivious of things going on.

* * *

The cool breeze passed over my face. It was cool and caressing. But my nose seemed not to find it alluring. A sneeze forced itself out of me.

Yet, another sneeze. Gradually, my eyes opened. At first, everything was a blur. I closed the eyes and opened them again. Things became clearer. I realized I was lying on the ground.

Lying on the ground? I sat up slowly. How could I be lying on the ground? Then I realized I was lying where I used to park my car. I looked around. The car was parked some meters away. How did I get here?

I tried to shake off my confusion. Wait a minute, I was followed and attacked by two guys. They had induced me to sleep. Where were they?

What did they do to me? I tried to stand up, and just then I noticed the terrible pain coming from my crotch. I looked down there. My trousers had been opened and they left the fly unzipped. What did they do?

I tried to stand up again and succeeded. But I felt so weak. There was total darkness now. What time was it? How long had I been lying there?

Endless questions, but no answer

I searched my pockets. I was surprised my two phones were still there. There were also some currency notes. What kind of robbers would leave valuable things in the pockets of their victims? I brought the phones out. They were still in perfect working condition. I checked to see the time.

It was 11.55 p.m. I tried to remember some things. I had closed from work and had driven myself home. As I was opening the gate to drive in, two men had held me at gun point. Before I got down from the car, the time was about few minutes after seven. That meant I had been lying on the ground for over … over four hours!

The second phone had torchlight. I switched the light on and searched the ground where I had lain. There was nothing else there. I moved towards the car. Ouch! Each movement brought pain to my scrotum. What had these guys done to my crotch?

Slowly, I moved to the car. Can you imagine? These guys brought the car inside the compound and parked it. I opened the unlocked car and sat at the passenger seat. Everything looked intact. The car key was still at the ignition. Then, I saw a white envelope on the dashboard. No, I did not leave that one there. I opened the envelope. A folded paper was there. I unfolded and, with the torchlight, I read the terse message:

This is your last warning. Stop frolicking with a married woman.

What! I was shocked. So all these horrible experience I had was about leaving a woman alone. This was serious!

I got out of the car with the note. I remembered the text message I got the previous day. Whoever was behind all these was damn serious. I locked the car and went on to lock the gate from inside. My mind was busy. If I could be trailed to my house and attacked, then I was not really safe.

Those guys were not robbers, neither were they kidnappers. They were men sent to give me a rough deal. That pain I was feeling from my crotch was not ordinary. I believed they must have done something unholy there.

I went slowly to my apartment. This was very serious. My relationship with Big Mummy had given me a lot of financial gains, no doubt. But now, it was bringing a threat to my life. Those guys could have easily killed me if they wanted to do so. Oh, God! I shivered in fright. This was the first time I would be having a close shave with real diabolism.

I went to my flat. The rooms looked so hostile. I sat on the sofa in the sitting-room and it seemed the place was jeering at me. My mind too was condemnatory. It was the least I expected at this material time. I thought over things. When day broke, should I report the case to the

Owutu police? If I should, what would I tell them? I was neither robbed not abducted. Those guys came to warn that I should leave somebody’s wife, although they hurt me in the process.

Would I show them the note they left behind? Then, they would ask me if indeed I was following somebody’s wife. So, what would I say? If I said yes, they would say oga, why must you follow somebody’s wife? If I said No, I would be lying. I thought it was better I should leave police out of it. The first place I should visit was the hospital, not police station.

I would definitely have to tell madam. I would let her know the trauma I had gone through in trying to please her sensuous affection and libido.

What about Naomi? I would have to be careful the way I would tell Naomi. I would just say I was attacked by hoodlums and they kicked me on the groin. When I shouted, they ran away. That was all I would tell dear Naomi.

I soon slept off on the sofa and I remained there till few minutes after six in the morning. I decided that the first person I would call by seven
would be the G.M. I would simply tell him I was feeling under the weather and would be going to the hospital that morning. That was exactly what I did when it was few minutes to seven o’clock.

‘But you were very okay, yesterday,’ Mr. Ette said. ‘You even worked very well.’

‘Yes. The ailment developed when I got home. Now, I’m on my way to the hospital.’

‘Okay, sorry. Take care of yourself.’

‘Thank you.’

That settled the G.M’s angle. The next person to call was madam.

I called and told her what had happened.

‘Oh, my God! Are you hurt?’ she asked.

‘I believe I am. They did something to my genitals. I’m having pain there.’

‘Go and treat yourself. I’ll pay all the medical bill. Sorry about that.’

After B.M, the next was Naomi. I told her the way I had planned to tell her. I also told her I would not be going to work as I had already informed them that I needed to treat myself.

‘Go and report them at the nearest police station,’ she exclaimed. ‘They must get those hoodlums arrested pronto.’

‘I’ll do that,’ I said. ‘But first, I must go to the hospital.’

‘Sorry, my dear. I’ll come to your place when I close from work.’

‘Thanks for your concern, honey.’

As I took my bath, I closely observed my genitals. The scrotum was swollen up and there was still pain. I must go for medical examination after
I had my bath.

I wore a jeans trousers and a t-shirt. I also decided not to take the car. I would be going to Lakers hospital which I used when I was still working for my uncle’s bakery. I met Dr. Arinola Robert on duty. She was a good doctor but I wondered if she would be able to handle my situation.

I told her the same story I told Naomi. She was sympathetic. ‘Sorry, Ola. I hope it was not late in the night. It’s not always good to keep late nights.’

‘It wasn’t late night,’ I pointed out. ‘It was just few minutes after seven.’

‘Sorry,’ she said again. ‘Now, if you don’t mind, I must examine you.’

I went to the foldable partition. I must say it was not easy for me to unzip, and pull my trousers and boxer down for a young female doctor to examine my private organ, but I had no choice.

I went to the foldable partition. I must say it was not easy for me to unzip, and pull my trousers and boxer down for a young female doctor to examine my private organ, but I had no choice. She looked at it critically for what seemed to be an eternity.

She wore gloves. ‘I would have to feel it,’ she said. She touched the tip of the penis and traced it to the scrotum. When she felt the balls in the scrotum, I felt more pain. she pressed the place softly and I winced more.

‘Sorry. It doesn’t look like there’s much damage, on the surface. However, you may have to come again tomorrow for more examination.

Alright, zip up, let’s go back to the consulting room, and I’ll write my prescription.’

I got the prescription and left the hospital. Luckily, a good pharmaceutical store was around the place. I bought the prescribed drugs and returned home. I took bread and tea and then the dose of the drugs. I relaxed in the sitting-room, just lounging in the room.

Naomi came to the house by six-thirty. I went to open the gate for her to drive in.

‘Oh, my dear, how’re you feeling?’ she asked in concern.

‘I’m getting better,’ I replied. ‘I’ve been to the hospital and I’m taking drugs.’

‘Where did they kick?’

I pointed at my private part.

‘Ouch!’ she said. ‘That must be painful.’

‘Yes, it was. How’s Ella?’

‘She’s fine. Since I’ll be sleeping over here, I took her to Aunty Mary’s house.’

I nodded. There was a knock at the gate. Now, who could that be?

‘Just a minute,’ I told Naomi and went out to the gate. When I got close to it, I decided to be very cautious. ‘Who’s there?’ I shouted some meters away from the gate.

‘It’s the ogi seller,’ a woman answered in Yoruba. ‘I want to know if mummy wants to buy some.’

She was referring to Mrs. Aleshi. ‘Mummy has traveled,’ I told her.

‘Oh, I thought she’s back.’

‘No.’

The woman went away and I returned to my apartment. Naomi was not in the sitting-room. Maybe she went to the kitchen or the toilet, I reasoned. I sat down on the sofa. Some moments later, Naomi emerged from the bedroom. A look at her face showed me that something was wrong.

‘Ola, is it true you’re having an affair with Big Mummy?’ she asked.

My heart skipped a beat. I jumped to my feet. ‘What?’

‘What?’

‘Tell me, are you having an affair with Big Mummy?’

I could not bring myself to answering her directly. ‘What kind of question is that?’ I stuttered.

‘How do you explain this?’ She brought the note left behind by my attackers out. I had put it inside my small diary on the table by the side of my bed. How was I supposed to know that Naomi would go there and discover the note?

I was dumb-founded. I tried to think of a lie, but could not.

‘So it is true! What I heard was true.’

I sighed but could not say anything.

‘Yes. When I first got the hint that you were having an affair with her, I dismissed it. I said it could not be. But with this note, then it must be
true.’

There was no point in denying it. I went on my knees. ‘Naomi, please, listen. Let me explain everything.’

‘Explain what? What is there to explain?’

‘I was already planning to end it. Believe me, I was thinking of stopping the affair!’

‘But how could you do this to me, Ola? How could you?’

I remained on my knees. ‘I’m sorry,’ I said. ‘Truly, I am sorry.’

She shook her head, picked up her car key and bag, and moved to the door.

I stood up in a flash. ‘Naomi, please, wait. Wait.’

She did not answer me. She got out of the apartment and went straight to the gate. She opened the gates wide and went to her car.

‘Naomi, I’m sorry,’ I said. ‘Please, I’m very sorry.’

She kicked the engine of her car into live and drove out of the compound.

I was devastated. I went to close and lock the gates. It was the second terrible experience I would be having within twenty-four hours!

By the following morning, I was feeling better. I however remained depressed about how things had turned. The aspect of Naomi confirming my affairs with B.M and storming out of my house in anger was very depressing. She did not even wait to hear me out, although I could see that she had every reason to be angry.

I woke up early to prepare for work and by five-thirty I was out of the house. I was now determined that I must opt out of my relationship with Big Mummy Apart from Naomi’s angle, the threat to my life was for real. Even if she was offering me millions of naira, it was better I remained alive.

I tried to reach out to madam on the phone but her lines were not going through. I would have to call her later. I would have to thank her for her interest in me and her generosity. I would then tell her in view of the threat to my life, I would like the affairs to cease henceforth. I was even prepared to quit the job for me to drive home my point.

I also decided that I would go to Naomi’s residence at the close of work. I would have to plead with her over my misdeed. I tried B.M’s number about noon and was able to get through.

‘Ola, how are you? Sorry I had not called you before now. I had been very busy.’

‘I understand, madam,’ I replied. ‘I wish to let you know that in view of the threat to my life, we have to stop seeing each other. The note left behind by my attackers was explicit in warning that I should desist from going out with a married woman. So, the best thing to do is to quit the relationship.’

There was a long silence. ‘I can understand,’ she finally said. ‘But, I’ll still say you should not be rash in taking decisions.’

I nearly laughed. My life was at stake and this woman was saying I should not be rash in taking decision! Okay, that meant she wanted me dead. For her own selfish gain, she did not care if I remained alive. Alright!

‘I’ve called the Lagos Commissioner of police to investigate it. I’m sure they’ll bring the culprits to book,’ she was saying, but I was barely listening. Even if she called the Inspector General of police, I had had enough.

‘Thank you, ma,’ I said. ‘I believe we should stop the affairs. Thanks for all you’ve done, but I can’t continue again. This is to say goodbye, madam.’

‘You’ve made up your mind?’

Oh, what else did she expect? ‘Yes, I’ve made up my mind. Good bye, madam.’

I cut the line and sighed. That should settle that aspect. When I closed from work, I drove to Naomi’s house.

Ella came to welcome me coolly while her mother refused to answer my greeting. I had no doubt she had told Ella what I did, or at least hinted her. I went to her bedroom and sat on the bed. After waiting for her to come around for five minutes, I called her number. Even from the bedroom, I could hear the ringing of her phone. She didn’t pick it but after about a minute, she came to the bedroom.

She came in slowly and refused to seat down. I went on my knees and held her hand. She avoided looking at me.

‘Naomi, please.’

‘But why? Why did you do it?’

I could see tears in her eyes. I shed some tears too.

‘I was carried away. What B.M offered me got me carried away.’

I pleaded with her more. ‘I’ve ended the relationship,’ I said. ‘I called her and told her it’s all over. I’ve quit the relationship.’

She dabbed her eyes and tried to look calm. ‘That note I saw. How exactly did you come by it?’

I decided to tell her the whole truth about the attack.

‘How could you be risking your life over another man’s wife?’ she asked in perplexity.

‘I was lost’ I said. ‘Lost in lust. But, it’s all over now. My eyes are clear now. I’ve learnt my lesson.’

‘Get up,’ she said.

I got up and stared at her.

‘I’ll give you one more chance,’ she said.

I beamed in smile. ‘Oh, my darling, Naomi.’

‘If you ever do anything like this again, it will be permanently over between us.’

‘Oh, dear Naomi. Thanks. Thanks for the second chance.’ I lifted her and planted kisses on her lips.

‘Let me tell Ella, we’ve made up,’ she said. ‘She has been so depressed about it.’

‘Okay.’ I stopped the embrace and she left the bedroom. After a minute, she was back.

Hours later, we were in bed. I wanted to compensate her for my misdemeanor by caressing her passionately. She warmly welcomed my
gesture. We kissed as if we were in a kissing competition and must win. It was then I realized that I had another problem.

I stopped the kissing and the handling. ‘There’s a problem, Naomi darling,’ I said.

She turned her pretty face into a frown. ‘What problem, honey?’

I sighed. ‘I don’t know what those guys did to my genitals. Even now, despite all our kissing and pre-intimacy, I’ve not had erection.’

‘Really?’

‘Yes.’ I took her left hand and guided it to my manhood which had remained limp.

‘Oh, oh,’ she said.

‘When I went to the hospital yesterday, I complained about some pains in that region and some drugs were prescribed, which I’ve been taking.’

She smiled wanly. ‘Don’t worry. You’ll be alright.’ She squeezed my hand lovingly.

I earnestly hoped so. I held her lovingly, kissed her passionately, sucked her nipples, but the ‘thing’ remained impassive. That had never
happened to me before.

‘Don’t worry. Just try to relax.’ Naomi said kindly.

I tried not to worry, but I was deeply a worried man. I could not just imagine life of sexual inactivity. I was a very virile young man and I
always prided myself in my virility. How could something as terrible as this happen to me? Anyway, it must be a temporary thing. I would continue taking the drugs prescribed for me. I would also have to go to the Lakers hospital for further treatment.

From the following morning, I decided I would have to take more personal security measures. One, henceforth, I would not be going to work in the Honda Accord. It was already a marked car and it was easy to trail me in it than in a commercial bus. Two, whether I drove or walked, I would always looked behind my back to see if anyone was trailing me. I believed if I had realized that I was being trailed, I would have averted an attack.

I got to the office the following morning, still nursing the fear that someone was watching me. Then I remembered Naomi said someone hinted her about B.M and I having an affair. Who could have hinted her? I suspected Tinu, but I had no evidence. Tinu knew Naomi and the former might pass her suspicion to Naomi. Then, I was trailed from the working place to my house. Definitely, I was being monitored by some people.

About ten o’ clock I received a call from an anonymous caller.

‘Hello,’ I said.

‘Hello. This is B.M. I’m using this line, just in case my other line is monitored. How’re you, Ola?’

‘I’m quite better. Thanks for asking, ma.’

‘Good. I believe my hubby is behind the attack. I’ve confronted him and I’ve warned him that nothing bad should happen to you again. I’ve also
informed the police CP about it. Let’s just lie low for a while, then I’ll come up with how we can safely continue with our relationship.’

My heart started hammering against my ribs. So despite all I had gone through and what I had said, this woman would still be saying this? Na wa o.
