Good evening All,

Please i need help with admission for my younger bro. He read Mechanical Engineering for his undergraduate and had a 2.2 from FUT Minna. My challenge is i have the option of MSC Mechanical Engineering or MSc Applied Computing from DIT. I would appreciate if anyone could help with further info on the MSC Applied Computing (that's with respect to how relevant is it in the IT space) and any other advice on how to help switch him to Masters IT related courses.

Some of the questions I find people ask here are really disturbing.. I see people ask questions that have been answered over and over again.. How easy is it to ge a job in Ireland PR and stuff,, brethren, it's not easy anywhere, not even in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA let no one deceive you.. Combining work and school is damn stressful and you should brace yourself for it... The only compensation is your efforts eventually pay off.. My advice is for you to hope for the best but expect the worst.. Enter the Ireland first and then sort yourself out. The Nigerians there aren't dead naw.. Let's also have in mind that this Irish people also read all this comments here as it is public.. Pray for God to favor you and do your best.. Leave the rest..

Thank you for your response. I will go through the thread. I graduated with 2.2 B. Sc degree Zoology.

Why not take some time to read through this thread from the beginning. You'll find valuable information especially with regards to getting jobs after study and what is required in making an application. Please do as you'll learn from mistakes others have made in the past.

In finding a course: Google the course title + Ireland and see what comes up. I am doing a Masters in Sustainable Resource Management. It's a joint program by NUIG and UL but i think this year both schools will handle it independently. At NUIG the sustainability courses were more in line with the environment like ecology, environment & health, biodiversity, while at UL we're doing Engineering sustainability, transport and urban household sustainability.

Again what's your background? Read through the thread. You'll be better informed that way and I'm sure you'll be happy you did.

I have a colleague who did Zoology for her undergraduate degree. The course at NUIG sounds like a better fit as that's where we did all the biodiversity/animal related studies. We carried out some ecological assessments on animals too but mostly small mammals. Feel free to holla if you need any more info after you're done going through the thread that is cheesy All the best.

sponsorship for an irish visa involves a whole lot of documentations or supporting docs, so its actually about either one of them that has the necessary paperwork...

Hi everyone I've read through the thread (102 pages) and I must say it's been very helpful.

I'm interested in studying in Ireland for a masters degree, I'm considering applying for a masters in FinTech from NCI (For this course what's my chance of getting the €5,000 scholarship with 3.0/5.0 CGPA in Business Administration? Secondly for someone who has had no previous background in programming or IT only a keen interest in Finance and who's looking to acquire a skill set in demand would it be realistic to follow this career path, can I actually achieve this bearing in mind that I'll also have a part time job while studying?

On the other hand I recently got an offer to study in Griffith College (Limerick) Masters in supply and procurement which is like a second option, I applied to the school directly I'm considering sending the school a mail asking for a discount? In the course of reading through the thread I noticed some people got discounts, my question is how did you get them and since I haven't gotten any should I request for it? I don't mind saving some costs where I can.

Please any advice/opinions would be highly welcomed.

No its not. WIT I believe is a good school. Ireland has very few universities important thing to look out for is accreditation and more importantly courses covered if it aligns with your career goals.

Data Science or data analysis plays huge role in fintech;
However, Data Analysis on its own can be used in different sectors and requires medium to high level of programming and statistical analysis.

Fintech on the other hand can be a paid career prospect or entrepreneurial prospect ; it however involves quality and quantity programming skills including machine learning and predictive / behavioural analysis.

One important factor to note is that, you won't be taught all you need to know or excel in uni, alot goes into self development.

So I won't be able advise on which one you should choose as I/ don't know your programming strengths.

Personally, I detest programming so I settled for Business Analysis- covered advanced excel, Mysql, , statistical packages including R ; some schools used SPSS while other universities in the UK zeroed in on SAS and MS-SQL.

My point is know your strength and pick based on your passion.

Thanks so much ma. You are a blessing to us.
I rili appreciate

Hi richvictor,

The career prospects for Data analytics and Fin Tech are as follows:

Data analytics: graduates will be capable of creating specialist start-ups or fulfilling roles such as data scientist, Business intelligence analyst, data analyst, and data mining engineer.

Fin Tech: this provides graduates for in-demand roles such as data analyst, financial engineer, digital trader, financial data engineer, business analyst, financial engineer, digital portfolio manager, capital market analyst, funds analyst, and blockchain technologist.

I hope the above information helps you to decide which one you will go for.

if you still have any question related to this, or the schools in Ireland, or any other thing about education or living in Ireland, feel free to ask.

cheers.

God bless u sir for ur contribution

How about fees of on campus and off campus accommodation and what is your personal experience about this.

I'm presently studying in University of Limerick (UL) and why would you want to restrict your after school job search to Limerick? You'll find a job in the medical or IT field quicker than most fields so your chances are good...but be open to spreading your net.

For you and others considering UL, I must tell you that it is a tough school. I've never had this much workload in my entire life and almost everyone I know in the school feels the same way. I did my first semester in National University of Ireland, Galway and it was quite intense but nothing compared to what i have had here so far. Interestingly, I'm loving the challenge, especially in modules I enjoy.

I'm really not actively looking for a job now as I think i'll go mental if i have to combine work and study at this rate. But you may be stronger and can handle it. To be honest, getting a job in Limerick isn't easy. I know a couple of international students actively searching and going for interviews but find it difficult landing something. Dublin has more opportunities but the downside is the higher rate of living. Everything boils down to determination though and I'm sure with constant pushing something will come up. The rate is €9.80 per hour.

Hi guys. I’m quite confused. I’ve been working for a while and recently got an admission this fall in dublin.
Already paid my fees

I intend to resign pretty soon(like april) for other reasons even. As regards the visa application much later, will a study leave letter from my company grant me more chances of securing the visa (based on economic ties) . Honestly I dunno what direction I should drive the resignation letter towards.

Thanks as I anticipate a response.

I once had that instinct too not until I learnt why Nigerians avoid other Nigerians in the diaspora like a plague. Truth is, I thank God I am alive after the sad experience. Wishing everyone here and those home success in their pursuits. I am just here to read now.
