My personal view is that we should follow the local Canadian visa requirements.

If they don't ask for notarized documents then don't notarize whatever you think. The only notorized thing they asked for on their website relates to minorities and documents that are not written in English/French.

Think about it, they don't refuse study permit for NON notarized documents (if of course is not written in official site). Another useless document that people bother attaching to their file is the police character document... another one that I saw on this thread is “affidavit of return” hahahaha!

If they need something extra from us, then I believe they will inform us.

We shouldn’t provide extra documents that won’t make make any difference. The Vo won’t see a notorized affidavit of support and say “oh, it’s notorised. It must be true”. Let’s all calm down!

hilaryxoxo:
WHat if we are the ones making this thing harder than it should be?

Which one is notorized affidavit of support again? All these filthy paper work that anyone can wake up and create. Tax return, CAC... what’s the VO’s business with how my sponsor is making their money? When did they become EFCC

Maybe we are the ones taking this thing more personal than it should be... And we are now indirectly making it a norm...

Police character is very important. That's how they know you don't have a criminal record!

Exactly people do too much. I stated this in my last post. Just keep it simple and straightforward this people don't have time for all this unnecessary supporting documents.

Here we go again with the over sabi...

1. CIC did not ask us to submit police character certificate.

2. If it was such an important documentation, why isn’t it on their website

3. Have you ever seen a GCMS note that said “I am not convinced that this applicant is a real student because i don’t know anything about his criminal record”

4. This is Nigeria. I can be a criminal and still get a police character certificate. The VO’s should know how we roll.

If you don't intend to include it, don't discourage others! For PR ITA, it's a requirement so for student visa it may likely help in convincing the VO especially when so much discretionary powers are given to the VO. You think the VOs don't know many student permit is for relocation purpose?

Besides, you can make your point without calling someone oversabi!

If you are lady and u are on ur period, do not go for the medicals until u are done.

While I am not trying to debunk anyone's claims, I personally don't think police certificate is such a crucial document. Several people on this thread (myself included) were approved without a police certificate. I have never seen an application rejected solely due to the absence of a police certificate.

I will also admonish people to be careful about including "affidavit of return" in their application. An affidavit of return is a legal document. If you include it in your application, and you later attempt to apply for a PGWP to stay back in Canada, it can be used as grounds for refusal.

This thread is really amazing! No doubts about that. But let’s not also forget that there are thousands of people that have neither consulted nairaland nor the services of agents, and have had TRV approvals. Upon speaking to a good number of them, I was extremely surprised to see that they didn’t submit many of the things that are recommended for people to submit here... and they were still successful! Consequently, It made me question the usefulness of some of these things and I expressed my opinion to see if there was any argument for these documents...

We need to understand a couple of things;
1. The fact that someone got a TRV approval does not make the person an expert on TRV matters.

2. The fact that someone submitted a certain document and got an approval does not make that “document” compulsory to submit (especially if it’s not a requirement on the CIC website)

3. You really cannot use one person’s model/template as the standard. As we already know, there is no one size fits all.

The point I’m trying to make is this;
1. We need to question why we are telling people to submit certain documents. For instance, this police character certificate. The fact that it is a PR application requirement DOES NOT MAKE IT IMPERATIVE TO SUBMIT for a TRV application. Who knows if it makes the VO start to think that you want to actually stay in Canada since you’re submitting the requirements for a PR. Plus since the things you submit, passes through a “genuinity test” (or what eveir they call it), what if these extra unnecessary documents just delays a candidates processing time since the immigration office would have to verify them..

Very true but as you mentioned, I think it's a personal thing. It might not apply to everyone, especially people that have travelled and stayed in a different country. Giving a police certificate might reduce the amount if time it would take to very their criminal records. At the end of the day I think I'll just advise people to do as their spirit leads. I didn't add a police character certificate but I probably added some other things that people might deem unnecessary. But I think sometimes after listening to advise, you should still follow what your gut says.

Very sorry to say but it was wrongly filled
Even a non guru can see dat 40,000 can not comfortably cater for the addition of the three other figures on the left.
The fees alone takes all the money on the right

About that being a reason for rejection, very possible but the gurus will throw more light on that. Cos it's obviously an error schools are not usually this high

tuition z 18000 a year, which is stated in the admission letter..but the agent filled the form and calculated for the whole 4years

That's not what is required on that form
Your agent should have known that, sadly I think the gurus here know much more than most agents that actually ask to be paid.

Things pertaining to the first year of study that is all that is required on that form, these figures might hv confused the VO.
