Day 1 - Lindo F1 Tomato Planting (19/02/2019)

Okay, I got to excited this morning and decided to plant straight away before heading to work. (O yeah! I work kiss ). Got some Rio grande, UC 28 B and now Lindo F1 (my first hybrid tomato seed, though I already ordered for the Cobra 26 F1).
Let's see what the Lindo has to offer knowing fully well Rio grande remains my first love kiss .
The 1gram Lindo was able to fill up my 10x20 tray i.e 200 units after planting two seeds per hole. That means I got variably between 400-450 seeds in the sachet undecided . well, worth the price N700 naira.

Let the count down begin. Should be picking up more grow trays on my way back for my cucumbers.

Expenditure so far:
Lindo F1 tomatoes (Technisem) = N700
Nagano F1 cucumber (Technisem) = N800
Tray= N1100 (kind of expensive if you ask me)

Total= N2,600

Padma right? Well, so many factors comes into play when choosing your tomato variety most of which is; what time of the season are you growing? (Dry or Rainy season). Padma and Cobra are basically same to me if you ask me (my opinion though) although padma f1 are specifically grown for rainfed.

And for the Sakata, which of their products? Sakata is more of a brand abi? Just like Technisr or east west seeds.

Note: irrespective of the variety grown, a thorough program must be adhered to when growing tomatoes (fungi issues no b moi-moi ooooo).

I presently have 3 varieties in my garden; Lindo f1, Roma VF and a few local variety

Basically sterilized soil (cooked the soil), then mixed in appropriate proportion with compost manure (poultry).

For my nursery or sacked growing I do 50/50 mixture (using my chicken feed sack as my measuring tool) mostly. i.e that's a bag of soil to a bag of compost manure.

Note: I do a quick soil test to get basic soil details before sometimes doing the estimation of how to mix. This soil testing kits are all over the online ecommerce platforms

My Newest Collection: (Roma VF Tomato)

Like I said earlier, I went shopping for tomato seeds (obsessed with tomatoes), came across the Roma VF 100g and bought it.

Re: Starting Up My Vegetable Farm Garden From Scratch (ugwu, Tomato, Green-leaf) by jidestroud(op):
The Roma VF tomato seeds were nursed on the day of Governorship/state assembly 09/03/2019.

Sprouting was noticeable from the third day.

The Cobra 26 F1 is definitely superior to Roma VF, with a lot more tolerance to a lot more diseases. The Cobra 26 F1 is in the league of Padma F1 if you asked me and as I clearly stated earlier.

Not at all. Removal has been easy thus far but, I wouldn't advise using the one in the picture for growing crops such as cucumbers. You'll be needing much bigger grow trays. And as for the coco peat, will be preparing some when I'm ready to cut my coconut opened grin

Well-done Boss. Please where do you buy your seed trays and I need some tips on growing peppers. I've tried a couple of times but they always become diseased with the leaves curling and getting spots. I also battle with leaf miner on most of my local leafy vegetables.

Sorry about your peppers. For the starter trays, I buy from Agritropic Ltd, but the good news is that the trays are available virtually on most online stores which will be delivered to you.
Got mine for N1,100 per piece.

Quick tip I apply to all my garden crops.
1. I know the full description of the variety I am to plant. It helps in at least know possible outcomes.

2. Since I am 100% organic in my approach, I dedicate twice as much efforts and time to my garden crops. eg. Spraying my neem mixture more often.

3. Getting it right from the start is not compromisable. Eg. Taking necessary precautions by heating my intending soils for growing seeds, adding neem cake to the soil, etc.

Believe me, growing tomatoes thought me a lot and made every other crops easy.

For your pepper...
- Get a good variety with some level of tolerance and resistance.
- white flies are a menace to pepper seedlings. Try growing them in an enclosed area first. Most likely, use a net to cover them. Nevertheless, you must have your fungicides / pesticides ready with a program to follow. (Depends on if you are organic or inorganic farmer)

Garden Update

Did a quick one in my garden today. Planted the following;
1. Cobra 26 F1 150 in total
2. Rodeo 62 F1 50 in total

I wouldn't be doing the Roma Savana till I secure enough space of where to transplant too.

Sun-drying is simply a way of eliminating or reducing nematodes present in the soil. Obviously, I don't expect you to start heating up the whole land mass in the name of treating the soil neither do I subscribe to bush burning. Moreover, it all boils down to if you are organic or inorganic in your approach. What I do most times is applying enough manure to the soil to increase microbial activities in the soil. Next is adding neem residue from my filtered neem blending.

The Neem oil acts both as a pesticide and also, as a fungicide. It contains an active component called Azadirachtin which disorientate this pest. It is important to remember that insects must eat the treated plant to be killed sha o!!!

How I apply mine:
I simply add 1ml of (measured from my syringe bottle) to my spray bottle of 2litre.
Add a 5ml of my supergro (this acts as my soap)
Shake and spray.
