Hello House,
Please I need your advice on my visa processing, I applied for a visiting visa B1 with my Dad in 2016 but I was denied and my dad visa was granted, even I was the one that answered all the interview questions.
My Question now is that, can I apply for a student visa F1 without indicating that I have applied before? Will my data still be on their system? I have no travel experience? I only want to go and study more and come back to manage my dad's business.

Oh yes! You can, it will even increase your chances of getting a visa. You know American embassy likes those Nigerians that struggle to tell the truth. Smh

Hello House.
This is just to appreciate those that contributed and adviced me almost 2 years ago on this thread after my visitors visa was denied. I was denied in Abuja on the 27th of March 2017. I applied to visit my then US Citizen fiancée that I met online. She visited me in January 2017 after talking for 1 yr 6 months. We got engaged and fixed our wedding for September 2017 and in March 2017, her family said I should visit.
I remember I ran back to this forum to drop a very long and hilarious transcript and the following people gave valuable advice.

Seyewest wrote.
“Wow... I gbadun your story oooo... but you need to do more research and also tell your fiancee to do more research.. Good luck in your endeavor.”

But then, anything is possible too! Regards”

My opinion would be, after the wedding, do not apply for visa because there is a higher chance of being refused, being married to a US citizen does not grant you visit visa automatically, it even makes it harder to get. They know you can easily adjust status stateside if visit visa is granted, and many people do this to jump the queue of waiting for an available immigrant visa number.
Let your fiancee( she will be your spouse by then) petition for an immigrant visa for you, if she has a good job, no crime records and pays her taxes, i can assure you than in less than 1 year and 5 months you will be in the USA with a green card and by then you would have completed your house manship”

We got married in September 2017 as planned! I was hoping I would get a placement for internship lailai for where. I finished medical school in September 2016 and was all over naija for internship interview. I attended a total of 7 interviews. No internship position. Finally on the eve of my wedding I got a call to resume 2 days after my wedding.
As advised on this thread, I didn’t reapply for a US visitor’s visa. My wife beg me tire that they would grant me so we could go for honeymoon.! I takuu. Lol. Me wey no say that application money Na suya lol. Of course we had our honeymoon lol at GRA Ikeja (I had to beg for 2 wks for honeymoon from my HOD at my hospital) Honeymoon was good! We have a 10 month old son already lol. My wife filed a spousal visa petition for 4 months after our wedding ( as adviced by the gurus here) January 12 2018! It took USCIS 9 months to approve the petition September 12, 2018. I finished my internship September 15, 2018. My wife last visited me in March 2018 (29 weeks pregnant! She stayed only 6 days- No be my fault). My ogas no gree give me pass that) Case was moved to NVC and I submitted all documents and paid all fees. After 3 months with NVC, I got my interview email December 2018. Interview date (late January 2019). Good news!!!! In total, it took me 213 day for the petition to be approved and 386 day for me to get interview. It’s a long journey. Waiting for something is not my problem. No matter how long, I always get want I want. I am not the holiest, it’s just the grace of God. The sequence of events in my life Since I Graduated medical school in 2016 is what is called grace and it’s making me draw closer to God. I attempted JAMB 5 times, the 5th time I was admitted into OAU and I spent 12 yr 7 days in medical school. Yes it’s OAU. I waited a whole year to get internship after Med school. That’s 18yrs but I came home with a medical degree and grey hair and in my 18 months of practice in Nigeria, I was on top of my game as attested by my Consultants. Lol I knew I would make a good doctor lol. While in school i lost a 5 year relationship blessed with a son(Now 7yrs old) everybody thought I was not in school anymore including the mother of my son. Emotional and academic struggles!!

Fast forward to my interview early this year. Questions came up concerning my visitors visa application in 2017. All data and major details checked out. And please don’t argue with the VO during your visitors visa interview. The VO in 2017 put a note on my profile I guess. The interview in 2017 was so fast and I forgot some events that took place. When the vo in 2017 said we are sorry blah blah blah, I went off and I got angry because I never for once thought I could be denied after taking my 54k lol lailai. Prepare your mind pls!! The interview could go either way. I remember I was still talking to him after he gave me the rejection letter and he was angry and called the next candidate angrily like 5 times. So please be calm and do not lie! You might likely come back. While on the queue for my immigrant visa interview, 3 VOs and I did my calculations. I sharply fasten my belt for a long ride when I discovered that my interviewer was a notorious VO popular in that Lagos Embassy. Well my fate. I stayed so long in medical school that I was always number one on viva exam list. So I faced the oldest and deadliest professors of medicine. Sometimes 3 of them at a time on my neck trying to kill me in oral exams.
The people interviewed before me had a smooth ride. Na korokoro simple questions. None of the immigrant applicants interviewed before me spent more than 3 minutes max. White paper every where. Congratulations you are approved. After each approval, the vo will pick the folder of the next candidate peruse it for about 2 minutes before calling the candidate to the window. When the VO picked my file, it was in the red folder!!! Mogbeee yeee. Only one red folder out of 10 folder and that red belongs to me.. all other folders Na Brown/straw colored. I turned to jelly fish and I could barely walk to the window when I was called. Why? because RED means danger. I immediately remembered medical school. If 200 students would have problems, I won’t be among them lailai. But if 2 students will have issues gbaaam, I ll be one of the 2 oh. Lol. All my answers that I have practiced and memorized disappeared. The Vo perused my folder briefly and the moment vo opened folder, I saw the white paper. The vo took the white paper out and placed it very fast under my folder before calling me to the window. After all the oath and the paparazzi, vo grabbed the mouse and nassooo computer hang. Jesus not again. At that point I wanted to pee my pant. I stood for about 15 - 20 minutes and vo kept struggling with the computer and would look up with a strict face at intervals to tell patient!! patient!! patient!!! And occasionally, vo would shake head after digging up an info and hiss like I stole something or was it the computer issue? Vo was scrambling and fighting with every object on her table to resolve the issue. Vo would fight computer a little, will come back and fight my file again as if money lost there. In the process vo flipped my folder over and the white paper kept under it was revealed. I stood there are read the bulk of the text on the paper. Requesting some documents to be submitted and addresses etc. Vo kanna sharpaly and hide the white paper in a corner. I knew I won’t walk out of that place that day with approval!! I don zero mind. I believe say the journey never end naa ni. After standing for almost 20mins and other immigrant applicants don look me finish like “Your own don finish today” vo said angrily
Now let’s get down to business. My brother that computer issue no resolve oh. The vo was so pissed. I said to myself ok! Sebi all the answers wey I cram don kuku varnish for my head. Gbaaam we had to drag the issue of me been rude on my first interview ohhhh sooote and how I should not be admitted to USA blah blah blah! before other questions now followed. Photos, dates of visitation, how we met, when and how we communicate, where We met face
For the first time, dates of marriage, our child, no questions about my first son and his name was on the petition and my application. Photo album sef vo say make I open from pali to pali make I explain every human being in the pictures and relationship to me. Our wedding Na one in town that time. We scatter ground gan for my state. Baby mama family sef send people make dem come look Wetin we dey do lol. I did so well with all the questions asked with my fake American accent lol yea I talk to my wife every day for the last 3yrs 9 months. Finally vo said computer didn’t allow access to the documents requested on the white form I was given and I said ok I have the form here filled and signed. Vo refused oh that I should go a drop off at dhl. I tried to argue that it won’t make sense for me to go drop off the documents since I came with them. Vo got angry and said. Gentleman you have not changed!!!! One more word and you are done!!! I SHUT UP !!! and started saying yes ma/sir to every instruction like mumu lol. I was given my international passport back oh. I did the drop off and 2 weeks later I got a mail that I should drop my passport at Dhl for visa stamping on a Tuesday and Friday passport was ready for pick up. I am in the US now with my family. I met my 10 month old son at the airport for the first time and he nearly called 911 on a stranger like me. lol we are inseparable now.
Ever since my visitors visa was denied in March 2017, I have never missed a post on the thread. I love the emotions, the success stories, the hope and aspirations of every prospective applicant and most importantly, the experienced guys always giving valuable guidance like I was guided right 2 years ago.Thank you all. In future my parents will want to visit and I know where to come for the latest “as e dey happen for US Embassies gists in Nigeria.

Was sent a mail to go collect passport after Dropbox submission with an attached letter asking to schedule 221g interview to speak with a VO and the Visa was approved and issued.

Did you get the visa after attending the 221g interview?

This is just to appreciate those that contributed and adviced me almost 2 years ago on this thread after my visitors visa was denied. I was denied in Abuja on the 27th of March 2017. I applied to visit my then US Citizen fiancée that I met online. She visited me in January 2017 after talking for 1 yr 6 months. We got engaged and fixed our wedding for September 2017 and in March 2017, her family said I should visit.
I remember I ran back to this forum to drop a very long and hilarious transcript and the following people gave valuable advice.

“After you get married, you should be filing for an Immigrant Via, not NIV because then it becomes harder to overcome the presumption of immigration intent.
best file the iV, then you can apply for either a K visa or a normal NIV”

“You post long fa!!!. In all it was a good experience and good you gave legit information about you.

This is actually bro the USCIS have approve our petition we are waiting for the interview date lol am happy for u I will say this one of the reasonable comment have read on nairaland

Hello All,

My mom and sister applied for visitor visas to attend my graduation in May 2019. Also, I will be getting married after my graduation, both events are 2 weeks apart. I'm not sure if mentioning the wedding part will send a wrong impression or have any effect on the decision. I want them to be honest about the purpose of visit but after reading several transcripts and reasons for denial here, I want to get more informed opinion on this. Thanks

Really

Try applying to other countries like Canada, Australia, UK...and the least goes on if indeed your sincere purpose for traveling is for vacation only.

Thanks to all those making meaningful contrubutions on this thread. I came here and gathered a lot of useful information especially on how well to prepare for the interview and possible questions that may be asked.

Appointment time: 8am friday 15th March 2019
Location: Abuja Consulate
Time of arrival : 7.45am
Met 70 or more people. Didnt really count

The countenance of those before me werent pleasant as Pink slip was flying everywhere. I maintained a positive energy and went in for the interview and made sure I was confident. I picked most of the questions generally asked from this thread and had rehearsed my answers before the interview.

My Transcript.
Me: Good morning
VO: May I have your passport please?
Me: Sure, handed over the passport

VO. What do you do?
ME: I work as an IT Engineer for xyz company and am responsible for ...............

VO: How many years have you worked for xyz company ?
ME: 7 years

VO: How many kids do you have ?
ME: 3 kids

VO: Have you been outside Nigeria before ?
Me: Yes, I have been to Ireland, UK, Saudi and Kenya

VO: Why are you going to New York?
ME: Am going to New York to carry out some upgrade/maintenance work on some of our systems at the Nigerian Consulate in NewYork

VO : Since its an official trip, why didnt you use an official passport?
ME: I work for a private company that is a technical consultant to the Federal Govt, so as a private company, we are not entitled to Offical Passport

VO: Typed for about 2 mins, turned off the mic and said she would be right back. Walked out of the cubicle with my passport to consult with another VO on my application.

VO: Returned to the cubicle and handed over the white form to me and said am approving your visa. Your passport will be ready for collection.........................( at this point either she was inaudible to me or the joy of getting the Visa on my first attempt overwhelmed me that i couldnt hear her again)
ME: Thank you. Collected the Visa approval slip and walked out giving thanks to God for the success on my 1st attempt.

Walked out at about 9.39am feeling so elated.
