Hello everyone, thanks for the contribution. I thought I should share the outcome -

Isn’t God just wonderful?
That was how I packed my burden of proof back.
Apparently, if you have a guarantor in the US, a Private insurance can be approved.
To everyone who contributed, thank you and I wish you good luck in your endeavor.
This is totally GOD at work. Congratulations
Where's that god moniker that was giving final judgement already?

Congratulations, I am happy that the TRUTH prevailed.

However, this one that people are now asking for the insurance details rather than pay their bills, I am getting concerned.
why do we just want to keep spoiling things for ourselves.
Once one thing works for someone, others want to follow, next thing now the VOs will start rejecting everyone on insurance.

Haba, let’s think things through before we follow please, if you want to go to their country and they frown at freebies and insurance, just peacefully avoid it.

Let’s not make them to constantly look down on us as a charity case.
We already know they want us to be able to afford and pay up our bills, so let’s do just that.

If they had ran their country the way we run ours, I’m sure it would have been in a bigger mess now.
May God bless you. I meant to talk about this issue of people asking for insurance details and I composed the post like twice but deleted it cos I didn’t want to be attacked or labelled an hater.

Why? Why? Why for the love of God do people think it’s cool to get visa for childbirth get to the US and go and buy insurance of about $1500 and have it cover their bills? Isn’t that fraud? Does that even sound right? People are finding it hard to renew visa with low bills, people here are looking for ways to even compound their woes further by buying insurance. You claimed to have the money for birth during interview, produced account statement and all, yet went to go and buy insurance.

Olamie’s case is different. She had an emergency. Buy the insurance o, and when it’s tine to renew go and explain the reason why you did to the VO. I just tire for my people. embarassed

Gbam! That's Nigerians for you. Was about to say the exact same words when I saw your post. I remember when I advised people to do their researches on hospitals to use rather than asking for contacts for the already overflogged cheap hospitals in Texas. Na wa.

After typing my epistle response I lost it.

Short response;

If poster can share, would be grateful. If not we push on.

Most insurance plans don't cover maternity benefits for international visitors to the US. And the ones that do require you to have been on the plan for like 10 -12 months before claiming maternity benefits.

Insurance isn't cheap and doesn't mean you pay nothing. Some have deductibles up to 5k before the insurance company starts to cover your bills. Even then benefits are typically capped in value except u have a really high end insurance plan.

So if there's an insurance plan, I don't mind (if it still exists that is).

Truth be told this your story just made me a lil scared. Even though you explained that the fee was the going rate at the time. During my visa renewal(B1B2), the VO expressed that the fee was small(4k) and all but he gave us the visa. However he stated that if i want to travel to deliver i need to change my visa to Medical. Now my current visa is valid till December, i am scared that if i go for interview to change the visa they might not approve with all this there low fee palava. and if i decide to rough it and use my B1B2, further renewals in the future might be very difficult coz i am sure the VO wrote those comments in my file. I am just confused at this moment i tell you.

I am not aware of any maternity Insurance for non residence, that you pay 1500 premium.
Its almost non existence, getting insurance for an "existing condition " which pregnancy is considered as...
One we eventually opted for was paid for in full(premium &deductible; $24k) before policy was issued.
However, I might be wrong.
Pregnancy is NOT a preexisting condition anymore. The ACA (Obamacare) got rid of that. Which insurance did you buy that has a premium and deductible of $24K? That’s not insurance anymore. The worst deductible I’ve ever seen is about $5K and those have very very low premiums. As in ridiculously low.

The rule of thumb is, the lower your premium the higher your deductible, the higher your premium the lower your deductible.

Even at that, there's something about this insurance story that doesn't add up.

I don't want to be a killjoy but this story just arrived at a very convenient time.

I am just saying we should be careful. Whenever something is too good to be true then it probably is.

Hello everyone, thanks for the contribution. I thought I should share the outcome -

VO: How long did you stay the last time?
Me: 176 Days
VO: Why?
Me: I started bleeding right after I got to the US. I had my baby taken out prematurely to save my life. The doctor said I could not fly back to Nigeria and a written note was given to me to that effect.
VO: Can I see that?
I handed over the report
VO: How did you pay your bills?
Me: I sourced for a private insurance following the incident and it got approved. I bought the Platinum Plan, which costs about $500 per month.
VO: Did you pay the insurance premiums out of pocket?
Me: Yes I did
VO: Can I see the premium receipts and itemized bill?
I handed that as well.
VO: Has anyone filed for you?
Me: Yes
VO: Who did?
Me: My Sister
VO: Do you intend to have a baby this time?
Me: No I don’t
That was how he handed a white paper to me and told me to pick up my passport in 3 working days o.

Isn’t God just wonderful?
That was how I packed my burden of proof back.

Happy new month fam and I wish us all the blessings it brings. So, I have a couple of questions please...

1) Has any Atlanta mama gone to renew visa and granted of late? I had my baby in Atlanta in 2017, uninsured and self paid.... Total bill was a little bit over 10k but I only have receipts for 9875 here because I already got back to Naija before I got the remaining ones which were about 500 dollars and I just paid over the phone. Asides those, ive got all my receipts and itemized bill showing huge discount. Btw, I used Piedmont Atlanta hospital.

2) Now, we use Cigna Global Insurance and we can get any medical treatment anywhere in the world provided the hospital and the doctor accept the insurance. I intend using Piedmont again and fortunately, they accept this insurance, so, I’ll be going as an insured patient, (i.e no discount palaver this time around).

3) My question is this; what are my chances? I paid all my bills the first time, but still d huge discount which I didn’t know about till I got the itemized bill. Now, with our new insurance, do I stand a better of getting my Visa or I should just look for a very expensive hospital and go as a self-paying patient and present my bills later to my Cigna for a refund.

I need your help because I will be applying very soon. Thanks.

Hello house,

Please can someone tell me from experience which one is better. using Epidural during vaginal birth and natural. Pls mama that have experienced both ( epidural and natural) kindly advise on the pros and cons.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by drafrican: 2:57pm On Apr 01, 2019
Epidural all the way no need barking like a mad dog for hours if your pain threshold is low when u can be pinging away
Just my opinion
Lots of mothers love d real african woman challenge but i’ll pass .......epidural makes u experience d birth and not suffer plus max its $1500
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by aamey15: 3:12pm On Apr 01, 2019
Epidural is better, i have had both births(ie epidural and without pain meds), i tell you i wish i got the epidural early enough sef because i was induced.. but i noticed something doe, after birth i experienced a back aches and it still comes and goes. Before i had my second child i never had back aches but now it comes and goes and i know its the after effect of the epidural.
My next child will i have epidural, yes i will coz the pain aint no joke.

Since you mentioned back pain then if you can avoid epidural please do. My mum's back pain today is from the epidural she had fourty something years ago. She stopped wearing heels in her 30's cos of it. I will advise you bear the pain if you can. Mind you some people have no reaction whatsoever from it.

I think you are good to go, I can only answer your first query.
My wife also had our baby in Atlanta in December 2016 and I think same hospital, it used to be clearview but I think they changed to piedmont now. We paid almost 10k also, but the itemized bill shows almost 70% discount as to the 50% discount on the pre birth agreement. I will advise you go with all the receipts and then also call the providers you paid to on the phone to send the receipts to you by email or to the US address on your account, and then your host can scan and email to you. Though the itemized bill wasn’t request for during her 221g interview, I think you should also go with the pre birth agreement you signed on your first visit to the hospital.
